My grandmother passed away this Saturday. Red was her favourite colour. She was a hustler, a protector, deeply passionate but also humble and funny. The night she passed, there were huge storms, tornadoes and torrential rain. I lit a red candle and placed red flowers in honour of my grandmother; I asked for her protection and guidance to the ancestral realm, all without knowing the Orisha Oya. Thank you for this video, it confirms what I felt intuitively 🙏🏾

I've called on Oya during a storm several times even played her music. It was me and my son coming from grocery store no umbrellas it was about to be nasty I kept saying her name I had him say it as well. He was 4yo it was so cute just repeating everything so clear. We kept saying Oya we love you please don't rain on us yet please wait till we get home Oya the mother of nine the warrior please don't rain on us. Mannnnn as soon as we got to my steps opened the door made it inside a down pouring began. 😩😳

Ase 🙏🏽 my mother is Oya. I love these stories. I also know red is Shangos color but red isn’t the only color for her. She loves purple, and rustic colors like wine, burnt orange, browns, burgundy’s, copper, maroons, aubergine (dark purple) plums. She loves tobacco, eggplants, plums and purple grapes and legumes. She loves masks, the number 9 is associated with her. Her stones are amethysts, garnets. Black opals and labradorites. Her animals are mainly birds specially sparrows and purple martins, she also likes insects but specially fire flies dragon flies. She loves bats deer and water buffalo. There is so much information about her it’s amazing ever since I was a little girl and I got connected to my roots, I started realizing all of the things that tide me to Oya. 🙏🏽💜

☺ I'm watching this video from Nigeria and I'm all smiles... I'm glad but I'll tell you the mushroom in the soup story as well or maybe not. I'm sure you must have heard it by now. Oya is really fascinating though. Till tomorrow Her river doesn't mix with Osun. There's a steady fight at their confluence point all day, every day... We all seek to find our way back cos trust me we're pretty much lost and confused over here in Africa as well. Feels like a book was torn in 2, 1 half thrown far across the seas and the other left to die on land. We need each other to rewrite every wrong walahi. It's a sad situation but videos like this gives me hope. Bless your soul special one... Asè

Alafia , I am child of oya and thank u for speaking about iyami oya iyansan. There are endless stories about this cosmic forces so with all due respect to white rhythmic wizard these apatakis are ancient and there stories are usually taught from mouth to ear. I listened to. Yaya say that my mother takes the last breath I was told that oya gives the first and last breath so i dont take that away from her because that is her school of thought. Oya also is also a nation ruler not just cohort to kawo shango obakoso so these stories are really to hit home for us and see how we can learn from these orishas that resides in ourselves because in truth these orishas are eguns who ascended to such a raw force overtime and i mean to say here in this earth we are omo of which orisha but when we transition and are elevated in the egungun we become not just the child but the raw force of these orishas so when people call on these orishas they are calling on us so our stories are cyclical and everyone has there own version. Thank u yaya for talking about the hurricane, river, ligtening Goddess affectionately called by me as Oya hekua hey ya! Odabo!

Great video....Oya often comes to my place and dances at the foot of my bed during storms. Like fr I have had women stay over and freak out cause they saw a dark African woman standing over my bed either watching me sleep or demanding that they leave my house at once....🤣🤣🤣🤣. Although I am a vessel for Eshu, Oya and I have always been very connected. My son's named after Xango but Eshu and Oya have been guiding me for years....like I literally knew their names and stories since childhood and would be beat and criticized for always invoking, praying to, and talking about "the elders" as I called them before learning about Ifa culture. Eshu taught me all his names and attributes before I knew what he was. For the first 8 years of my life I knew to trust short devil man/tall living corpse (he often came to me as Eleggua or Baron Samedi) with a playful nature who came to my dreams and would tell me what to do once I woke up to start a new day. Oya comes to me as a sexy young woman who watches me and flirts or as little girl who is harsh, pushy, and really "you will listen to me!!" in nature but wiser than 1000 grandmothers(believe me after a few sleepless night of her demanding you do something, you just do it regardless lol).....either way whenever they spoke, I listened and found my way back to ways of my ancestors....Ase'

So, light travels faster than sound on our planet. We see the lightning first, then hear thunder. This is scientific fact. When we count the time(seconds) between the two, we are approximating how many miles away the storm is. Storms can move at different speeds, change course etc so, you may count 5 seconds between seeing the light and hearing the sound and the storm intensifies in 5 minutes or in 25 minutes but it travelled 5 miles.

Oya is my protectress and has been since I was ye high…She is my guardian, and she ALWAYS comes in the form of a tornado or a black raven when she visits me… she’s come to me via dream, visions, and in the 3D when I’m alone in prayer/meditation, and I can also see her energy signature in other people..I know my siblings!!!.. Storms speak to me, they make me orgasmic, I get a rush during storms, my body becomes electric and I can taste it…OYA tells me why she has arrived and what’s she’s about to do, b4 storms reache its intensity…and if I’m out, I’m always guided to safety, or she’ll hold back until I’m safe and sound…I RESPECT THE WORKINGS OF ALL ORISHAS, AND STAY OUT OF THE WAY! Oya has MANY paths(signatures) … and you will KNOW, if you are one of her children, no one will have to tell you.. SHE will reveal herself to you.. SHE will tell you!

The day before our wedding there was a storm (Florida) that only lasted minutes. My husband filmed it and posted "So beautiful, like my future wife". People were confused and thought he was being mean, but I was amused. It was beautiful after. There was also rain and lightening during our wedding, and a double rainbow after. In fact it rained from 10 minutes before our wedding to 10 minutes after. We made an alter for loved ones who passed and I believe there were many tears from the sky because they could not be there with our family in flesh. She may not be my Orisha (my mood changes but I don't get mad-mad and I'm more nurturing even when I'm moody), but I do feel connected with her on some level.

Blaque Witch Yaya, this is one of my FAVORITE of ur Orisha videos! Bless u for mentioning that spirituality is INTUITIVE! So perfect. It breaks my heart ❤️ how TRUE it is that the spiritual nature of OYA is difficult for many to understand as a female deity. You did a fantastic job to translate in the way we understand female behavior. Women and girls who have a natural way that relates to the characteristics of Oya will feel great self acceptance after listening to this video. My sense of WARRIOR is so easily related to the stories of Oya. I lose any sense of SHAME once I hear ur explanation! Especially as u explain weather, I better understand emotional states that are most often judged and shamed when found in women and girls. NOW I see strength and a much needed expression of emotions during times where CHANGE must come. Understanding death and change is one we must ALL face, so how beautiful to understand it in the realm of divine order and balance, especially when it comes to PROTECTION during WARfare!

I think it is important to make note that these stories aren’t necessarily reflective of how Orisa is practiced in Nigeria in Yorubaland their origins. They are more connected with how things are practiced here in the diaspora influenced by the lucumi tradition as practiced in Cuba. Even the song in the intro.

Thanks for introducing our ancestors. I needed this video. my bong broke after I made a tantrum, and a thunderstorm passed by after that. … I’m guessing the gods are asking me to connect and recognize my anger, and how we can break and destroy at will, just because we have emotions. Real power comes from auto control! Beautiful ancestral knowledge!!

That's the vibe I'm getting from this story myself. Also it's Interesting... originally one of the symbols of the followers of Zeus was a bronze axe. Also Celtic Sky Father God Tarran, who also thunders through the sky creating storms, one of his primary weapons\symbols was also a axe. Very strange similarities overall and coincidences.

So much alignment here. One, I've been told to learn about them but with extreme caution as once you're in, there's no turning back. Two, I don't even remember bookmarking this video YET it played on my watch later. There were so many points when you talked about storms that connected heavily especially having moments of intense anger. Four, I'm only online developing research for my empire that I know is going to be the seed of my wealth. Lastly, before I watched this video I changed into something more comfortable and coincidently, the color is dark red; I don't own a lot of red. Not saying it aloud yet, but a mental note was taken.
