    Scott - BH generates massive amnt of spin where FH does not.
    Turnover = speed > spin + disc stability.
    This is why people use more OS discs for their FH.

    • @XaeoLS
      @XaeoLS 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      True, but if you've got good smooth technique Scott is right. I recently made some massive improvements in my forehand form and my flippy roller disc will now only barely turn on a forehand (with power for roughly the same distance, BH and FH). My OS discs act way more OS on a forehand than a backgand, regardless of how hard I throw.

    • @Christopher-Lenz
      @Christopher-Lenz 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@XaeoLS yea man I think you should def practice with a less stable disc to encourage good form. You just won't set any distance records with an understable disc throwing FH as a certain level of speed is required.

  • @bryansans2564
    @bryansans2564 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Scott, your philosophy on DG is always refreshing. Alot of people are missing out on FH mid shots. Some of the easiest(less effort) straight shots can be accomplish with just a flick of the wrist. that sounds pretty handy.

    Thanks for introducing me to the Berg, which is now my favorite disc. If you haven't tried them, go for a K3 Hard when you get the chance. Still sorting through my mid ranges at this point, trying to rebuild around the Berg. ... When will you do another "in my bag" leading up to the 2022 Tour? I'll be excited to see what testing you do and you try to find the best discs. My game is similar to yours, so I'm almost certainty going to try what you recommend.

    Awesome! Love the carefree attitude of picking discs that just fly true. I have a selection tip about the Trespass however, try to get the ones at 168 or 169g if you are looking at fusion burst made 2018 or so, both of mine in my bag are pop tops at 168 but the one I have at 173 has remolded a bit after it came out of the machine and left a flat spot about as wide as a sodacan on top and that has "pushed the dome" out towards the rim so it has more turn and fade than the lighter ones (in other words, more like a slightly beat in Raider). I would also like to recommend the fuse for a straight to understable mid with flight characteristics completely devoid of fade.

    K1
    K1 soft
    K3 hard

    • @BaysingersDiscGolfChannel
      @BaysingersDiscGolfChannel  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I would say K3 for putting and either K1 or K1 Soft for throwing. That would of course depend on the feel in the hand for you

  • @ericdunthorne1981
    @ericdunthorne1981 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I don't fully agree with your backhand / sidearm comment. Yes you can technically use a disc either way but. Discs with a lot of dome are really uncomfortable for me to throw sidearm. So that's a stipulation I have from my sidearm disc selection. So I do have a couple discs that I only throw backhand because of the obsessive dome. Also I prefer a grippy plastic for my backhand. I get way more spin on my throw with the extra grip. Sidearm I don't care about the plastic type, it doesn't affect my through.

    • @PaulOutsidetheWalls
      @PaulOutsidetheWalls 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree. It's a different throw and it's not stupid to think that a different type of disc is appropriate for sidearm.

  • @jaym6945
    @jaym6945 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I know what he means talking about backhand and sidearm disc.
    But i completely disagree to take the SAME disc.
    1. the grip is different, so another disc may feel better (typically flatter for sidearm)
    2. a backhand throw normally has more spin compared to velocity than a sidearm (there are Videos about this on TH-cam). As spin "stabilizes" the discs flight you have to balance this fact by throwing a slightly more (over)stable disc.

    • @BaysingersDiscGolfChannel
      @BaysingersDiscGolfChannel  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Going to have to disagree. How many times have you held the distance world record?

    • @jaym6945
      @jaym6945 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@BaysingersDiscGolfChannel this makes no sense

    • @BaysingersDiscGolfChannel
      @BaysingersDiscGolfChannel  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@jaym6945 it does though. Scott is a 2 time world distance record holder. I'm pretty sure he knows what he is talking about. I agree the grip is different and that goes without saying but no reason you shouldn't be able to switch one disc for another backhand vs sidearm

    • @charley420
      @charley420 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@jaym6945 For the average player these are true but if you are really pushing to be better they become moot. Though we all agree a flatter disc is more comfortable to side arm, someone with a well developed sidearm does not care and will throw the right disc regardless of dome, because it's the right disc and they can adapt. Additionally, a well developed sidearm player can balance wrist movement with arm speed so as to get an essentially mirrored flight as a backhand of the same disc with maybe only a slight cost in distance.
      Don't take it as me arguing, because I think your points are valid for most amateur and casual players, but considering Scott teaches people with the intent of treating them like future pros, he is also right to have those higher expectations. Just my take, anyway.

    The whole backhand forehand discs is a myth too, my dad can or did when he played Disc Golf more was Use a Wasp backhand/forehand one of the biggest bead non putter discs on the market. He also uses all but his Wizard forehand, the Wizard and similar discs with the same sized big bead or bigger have a hard time being gripped by a forehand due to the way the bead and convex wing is for that shot making the finger grip only on the bead. I know a bead with putters is not an issue for my dad as he can throw a Rubber Putter for a forehand approach as trying to throw more US with forehand is very difficult and then my dad will throw a Rhyno forehand when needed.
    I do not throw forehand period but do the US disc for that, and I do not carry a disc for every shot in fact all but my 2 12 speed Champion Destroyer and only max distance drivers has at least 2 uses for the disc except my putting putters obviously.
