Those Once Loyal is their absolute best and while I really love everything else they've done, this album has everything I adore about Bolt Thrower dialed to 11, and "When Cannons Fade" is the most killer track to end a discography with. Hail Bolt Thrower!
Fact from a 40k fan world eater is a name of a legion of chaos space marines that have old world tech in their brains that cause extreme pain if they feel something other than anger
1. Mercenary 2. Honour Valour Pride 3. Those Once Loyal 4. For Victory 5. The IVth Crusade 6. War Master 7. Realm of Chaos 8. In battle Excellent review! You’re speaking style and review was amazing. I personally worship Mercenary as my number 1 album. The ending riffs on 6th chapter and no guts no glory are prefect. Honour Valour Pride is such a sleeper in my eyes.. love many of those songs, but I can interchange albums #2-4 any given day really. Love IVth crusade as well, but I prefer their 4 later albums, their first 3, not really my cup of tea; except the banger Cenotaph. 🤘 long live Bolt Thrower! Such and underrated band!
I respect other people’s opinions but to put mercenary and honor value pride at 1 and 2 and all of their quality albums at the end is wild. Your 1 and 2 are the weakest albums in their catalogue by far
Sick! Bolt Thrower is one of my favorite death metal bands. My favorite is honestly the last one "Those Once Loyal", it's riff city! Although most of their albums are.
Great video! One of the best DM bands ever. Side note: it's crazy how good Jo's bass sounds on Those Once Loyal. I wish it was that clear on all their albums! She's a great bassist.
Discovered this band in 2020 and I'm very surprised I had never heard of them long before. They have become one of my favorite metal bands of all time. No other band that I've heard produces the atmosphere and energy that they do, and I've never heard so many excellent riffs packed into single albums. It's insane that I had been listening to metal so long and never heard of BT, until one day in 2020 I decided to click on Bolt Thrower because TH-cam recommended it. 3 years later, I'm still listening to them to get pumped up for work or the gym.
Yep, Bolt Thrower are a gem. I missed out on listening to them for a while as well because their name made me think they were a classic heavy metal band or something. Then I heard "At First Light" and my head was blown clean off.
Nice ranking of Bolt thrower pretty on par with mine, just picked up Those once loyal on cd a few days ago.Bolt thrower went out with a bang with that album for sure.
You're a great speaker and you know your stuff which makes your videos really enjoyable. I have the same ranking, with the exception of Mercenary that i would put in B tier instead of War Master. Those once loyal is unbelievable and i'm glad they ended so high. My only regret is to have never seen them live. Keep on the good work, instant sub!
Bolt Thrower is hands down the best death metal band ever, period. They are Kings of the guitar riff. I don't listen all the time but when I want to hear heavy it's BT. My 2 top choices would probably be the IVth Crusade and Mercenary but they're all great. There's definltely punk influences in their early material. There's a pic somewhere on FB of Gavin Ward in the early 80's sporting a mohawk so it's no surprise what his interest was. Punk was never my thing but to each his own..
Something interesting I've found is that while I enjoy bands with a lot of depth and complexity in their music, the bands that I enjoy the most (Bolt Thrower and Cianide) are very consistent across their discography, never really going completely in a different direction, unlike other bands I like such as Gojira and Mayhem.
Great video! I discovered the band maby 4 years ago and they are great! I have picked up all of their stuff except for the debut, but will pick it up if I find it out in the wild. If you have not heard Chainsword, check them out, almost like a tribute band to Bolt Thrower. Cheers!
every album i listen to is great even mercenary. They write the most catchiest riffs. But for now my favorite is warmaster, realms, for victory, IV crusade
1.IVth Crusade 2. Mercenary 3. Those Once Loyal 4. For Victory 5. Realm of Chaos 6. Warmaster 7. Honor Valor Pride 8. In Battle there is now Law Now my top 3 are straight up interchangeable. Mercenary gets ranked low for many but I worship that album. Right now IVth crusade is my number 1 but I have to say that the Those Once Loyal is probably the most complete and quality album they have put out. This is my favorite DM band ever. How about an Asphyx ranking soon?
C-Tier: 8. In the Battle there is no Law! Songs are a little too samey. Not a fan of crust punk/Grindcore elements. It's not bad though, just not my style. 7. Realm of Chaos Loved by many but I could never got into it. It also reminds me of awful times in my personal life. B-Tier: 6. Honour Valour Pride From here on out I like everything. HVP is a little underrated even if there are no real highlights. It flows together as a whole. 5. The IVth Crusade An okay album by all accounts, highlights are lacking again. When I listen to it, I do it in one go. It feels like one long song anyways. A-Tier: 4. Mercenary Now the excellent stuff begins. This album vastly underrated. A more melody and even melancholy focused effort and I kinda fw it. 3. Those Once Loyal What a way to end the discography! 2. War Master Riffs for days. S-Tier: 1. …For Victory For me this has the best mix of earworm inducing melodies and doomy riffage. In my Top 10 Death Metal albums.
Bolt thrower is a wild band because all their stuff is so good. What's exceptionally weird is that Realm of Chaos has some of their best songs but isnt their best album, meanwhile my favorite album of theirs doesnt have many of my favorite songs. I'd rather listen to a lot of songs on mercenary or realm of chaos by themselves, but id rather listen to the 4th crusade all together.
I need to give a listen to all their stuff. I checked their first album out when it was released and thought it was okay. If nothing else, they've been quite prolific.
Do you have any death metal recommendations for someone who loves simple heavy groovy monotonous music and thinks Mercenary is the best Bolt Thrower album?
Disagree with this liste I think war master and the 4th crusade are at the top tier never understood why people thought for those once loyal even comes close to those albums its beyond me. Second tier is for victory honor Valor pride and realm of chaos . Tiers below that we'll you can put them in any order
Great tier list mate! I think your'e on the money with your pics except I would put the 4crusade right next to for those once loyal. What an awesome band!

Thank you! And I agree, the bass tone on TOL is great. Jo definitely is an awesome bassist as well. I couldn't imagine the band with someone else.
