Get yourself some Tamiya masking tape, also mist along the edge with your airbrush to seal the tape further.
Beetle's are challenging to paint, I've never been fully happy with the two I've done.
But I have to say, it all looks good from here🤔✌️👍😊😊💜

That looks great! an imperfect paint job looks much more realistic than an absolutely perfect one on a vehicle like this anyways! Gives it that 'painted in the garage and parked outside' kinda vibe.
Color wise the white has been weathered to a very similar color to my 1:1 82' Toyota. I think it was white 40 years ago. But has turned a kind of dusty color just like that.

I think it turned out great! If you're unhappy with the little bleed spots you could decant some paint from the can into a little container and then apply it with a brush to those areas. If you get a chance looking into Masking Putty, it's so much easier to mask with, especially around odd shaped like the windows. 👍👍

I like seeing the whole process. Because someone like myself that would like to do something similar, I could see what the steps are. Yes some things are self explanatory but I like seeing all the details lol

    We all digging it....
the small imperfections...if you can call em that..
    makes it more real..
vids are great as they are...
The rough rider bodies are I think less of a challenge.... about my skill level...
ever tried using wrapping... ? like they do on real cars... I was thinking of trying it....
    1 of 3 ...
im off to watch no. 3

I put a wrap on my 1/18 dirt oval car, the tricky part with it was finding the right amount of heat without burning myself or warping the lexan😂 haven’t tried it on a hardbody though.

Regular spray paint is too thick to work perfectly on rc bodies. Switching to Tamiya or spas stix will help a ton. It is thinner and takes weathering better..
The orange printer tape or green paint tape are worlds above the white or blue masking tape.
Although, your process is perfect for happy accidents

Blue masking tape is ok for large areas, but to mask and line go for tamiya masking tape but don't stretch it wild. Then blue in the masked areas, half overlapping your white tamiya tape. Also washi tape is something you might want to look into instead of blue tape

Have you ever tried using liquid mask? It might be easier and work better than tape in certain situations. 🤓

I’ve only tried it on lexan and made a mess. Never thought to try it on the hard bodies. Definitely would have helped.

    Totally weird…..
25 year old masking tape has always worked perfectly for me.

What paint are you using, I don’t get how you have so many issues with paint drying
If your using krylon that stuff sucks
Go with tamiya paints and that stuff dries within 30 minutes

Im using rustoleum paints. Most of what I do is patina so I do not use tamiya paint since it does dry to such a hard finish I am unable to use my sanding techniques for aging. Just started this with what I had on the shelf.
