    To say a farmer dosent care about his land is the most backwards statement ever 😂

    • @davidalexanderlourie4371
      @davidalexanderlourie4371 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      In the real world of chemical agriculture, some very productive intensive farmers and croppers lease land that they don't own. After they have sprayed their crops according to the spray schedule supplied by the chemical companies and required by export companies, the soil has become so full of insecticides, herbicides and fungicides and so depleted of organis matter that the soil becomes an inert substrate.
      So there are examples of farming practices practiced by farmers who could not care less about the condition of the soil. When it becomes like concrete they bring in big heavy machinery to pulverize the soil so it can be replanted. At the end of their lease they return the fields to the owner in such a terrible state it hardly grows pasture.
      Many farmers are doing a great job. These are not the farmers who need regulating. These are not the farmers that regulation would impede as the regulations with the funding would support those farmers.
      Regulations create an even playing field. Currently farmers doing the right thing are competing with farmers who cut corners and bring the industry into disrepute and threaten access to premium export markets.
      Regulations are a good thing. Imagine any mechanical system without regulators. They would blow up or simply fail. Imagine having unregulated employees. If you weren't allowed to tell your employees what they can and can not do. You would be out of business in a week.
      We saw what happened to biodiversity in this country when the first wave of pioneers came over and annihilated everything. We have the photos to prove it. We have new waves of pioneers coming into the country all the time who simply don't understand the effects of their actions. Look at the new introduced plants that are establishing themselves as serious weeds that cost millions of dollars to control. Unregulated introductions of species are already causing huge problems. Those unregulated individuals using their free choice to grow whatever wherever cause massive economic inefficiencies for their neighbour's and communities who have to spend their time and money cleaning up a weed problem created by an individual not considering the effects their actions will have on their neighbour's and the local economy.
      There are just a few examples.

    As a lawyer, my work has included protecting private farmland at the instruction of the farming owner so that native bush of especial significance to local and regional Māori is legally protected, and the native bush conserved and extended. This is being done at the landowner's cost both in capital expenditure, and in diminished income as farmland is reclaimed by native bush. This is one of many examples within my district. The Green Party is out of touch with reality and the good work farmers do! Keep up the good work Andrew!

The people who work rural land knows the land best and knows whats best for the land. After all, it's their business, their livelihood, their home. They keep a fair amount of small to medium sized towns going. And in some respect, rural folk keep ports going with exports and some imports

    Many farmers are doing great things. However with changes of ownership, particularly institutional foreign investors the great protection work done by the rural community can be completely undone without a layer of regulatory protection.
    Mapping SNAs help farmers who want to protect biodiversity.

    Hoggard - another recent ex-lobbyist in this govt - they are full of them - looking out for large companies rather than small business and *the environment we all depend on to survive*. Watch out farmers - a bunch of you may keep denying climate change and the biodiversity crisis, and think that this govt is good for rolling back environmental regulations - but there may not be good measures in place to help you on climate change grounds when your farms are suffering, and inevitably environmental regs will be put back in a couple of years making it harder and more costly to adapt. Soil erosion and nitrate overloading from synthetic fertilizer is a real threat. Large fertilizer companies keep making large profits though. NZ might even feel international pressure to reinstate environmental protections. This govt is just a bunch of lobbyists pretending to help kiwis, they only care about large company profits... shallow statements and backslaps behind the scenes...
