Simplest answer would be set rules at the school and follow through. Cameras in the classroom are a great option. Would stop all the "Not my little angle". Cameras on the school bus, and in hallways, have been a thing since the 90s.
Only reason classrooms are a no go is many teacher do not want to be held accountable. Sounds like a lot of cops too.

All I can say is that in the 60’s (black or white) grade school kids knew the answers to these questions in fourth grade (if not before), it was mandatory 4th grade curriculum across the country to study US History and these topics are what the curriculum covered! All through school (K-12) we said the “Pledge” or at least in HS (the late 60’s early 70’s) we stood respectively in silence every morning at the start of the school day. In elementary school (again the 60’s) the Lords Prayer was said and we sang “The Star Spangled Banner” or one of the other patriotic songs such as “America the Beautiful”, "America (My Country, 'Tis of Thee)”, "God Bless America” or "You're a Grand Old Flag” (we learned all of these songs in grade school). Any K-12 public school sponsored event always started with the “Pledge" and the singing of “The Star Spangled Banner” (sports, plays, concerts, lectures etc.). I even remember a picture of George Washington hung framed in the front of every classroom by the flag. Even during the height of the Viet Nam War protests we respected the historical foundation of the country, generational gap didn’t diminish that! A year ago they renamed my elementary school from Jefferson School to the name of a black woman who apparently was the first to graduate HS in the district in 1912, good for her but that by no means ranks her higher in historical significance than a founding father and President… Jokes is on them, Jefferson School is chiseled in large letters across the granite head jam spanning the wide double doorway at the front of the building (no erasing that)! Next stop, sure they are discussing renaming the HS next, certainly can’t call it “Columbia” anymore according to the unpatriotic liberals!

I read a story of a black woman in Mexico stopped by the police. They assumed she was Haitian and were going to deport her. And to prove she was Mexican, they asked her questions like, who was the governor of the state she was in, who the president of Mexico was. And she answered all the questions right. Turns out Mexico had slaves too.

Even 60 years ago, people didn't know. We talked about it then. We called it "apathy". Nothing to do with race. Some people are not history oriented.

Van, to your comments about having black friends, I had many black friends growing up in the '60s and '70s. We hung out, played football, built forts, and had sleepovers. We were all the same, the only difference I perceived was that my black friends had really cool hair (remember Afros?). When I entered the working world in the '80s, I had plenty of black friends, including through the '90s. Then something happened...blacks and whites became much more divided than we were in the past. The division got even worse under Obama. Many blacks have been brainwashed into believing that white people are racist and thus friendships can't really form easily. This is courtesy of the left and the MSM, constantly stoking hatred and resentment. No black friends at the moment, and that makes me sad. But Van, even though you and I have never met, I do consider you my friend.

It is embarrassing that people cannot answer basic questions about our country's history.
This is a big part of why people have no appreciation for our country, they have no clue what it took to get us here and what we fought to break away from.
They need to put civics back in schools and there needs to be a test to graduate.

As my new Black friend, here's a little trivia to can say if someone ask you when the Declaration of Independence was signed. It was presented on July 2nd, changes were made, and it was adopted by the delegates on July 4th, 1776. Happy 4th! The Declaration had to be "engrossed on parchment" and the signing started and most signed on the August 2, 1776 with the others not there signing later. The engrossing on parchment was a little slow at Office Depot in those days.
