  • This film follows a seven day endurance test on the famous Monza circuit for two Ford Transits powered by the new 2.4 litre "York" diesel engine. A team of top drivers - including Roger Clark and Bengt Sodestrom - drove 4 hour shifts in "an incredible non-stop maximum speed battle against time". Ford took three world endurance records - all without a single mechanical breakdown - over the 168 hours and 12,000 miles covered at an average speed of 74 mph.

Note the wing mirrors folded back for less wind resistance and the twin rear wheeler has only single wheels for less rolling resistance. Stripped out interiors to.

If only the Ford Transit was offered here in the USA back in the 1960s and early 70s.

hahaha, i buy, restore and sell old transit vans, buit i don't want to drive them myself,
because they are deadly slow, and insane loud, and suck fuel like a v8, so not my kind of van,
but hey, i just sell them, and they are alot of fun to work on, because it's so damn simple, that
even a 1 year old kid could fix them, and no damn computers are needed to find a fault.

I liked the Ford Transit 2.4 litre diesels, noisy, hardworking, tough and meets the needs of business operator and delivery driver. Economic, good durability, and strength to carry the loads, going from a to b, and back again with little fuss.

Where's the error? 5000 miles with average of 120 kilometers an hour. So it's 8000 km divided by 120 km/h = 66 hours. That's 2.7 days. Why does it take 7 days nonstop driving?

Andreas Jimmi that's not the total mileage. That's just the specific records they broke.

Never understood why the Transit sold so well, it was thirsty while being quite slow, noisy and with bad handling...

Yes it was , the Transits with the 3 Litre V6 were probably the fastest vans on the road.

think the coppers will nick me when I get my mk2 tranny on the road if I do a robbery as it's only a 1.6 pinto.

well, you could drop a v8 in the cargo bay, like they did in some super transit in the 70's
