I have a MPC one, formally had a 1000 briefly back in the day, I could never go back. These new machines are great and I think alot of what people talk about is placebo, nostalgia or just stubbornness.
Good to know after all that, you still recommend a 2000. That's the one I got because of the punchyness of the sound, the crispness of the drums, and the cohesiveness of everything fitting together. The price wasn't too bad either.
I still prefer stand-alone MPC's over the newer software complimented MPC's. I have the MPC4k and the MPC 2500. The 4k is my favorite, however the 2500 comes in handy as well for a lot of different applications. It will all be based on the needs and best workflow for the end user. Thanks for sharing this comparison.
The 5000 pads are great if you do the pad tape trick.Layer approx 4 strips of electronic insulation tape on the underside of the pads.Done.Very sensitive.The lines on the 4000 screen often is the screen cable which fits into the board needs cleaning and fitted back snuggly,its very delicate.Imo the FX in the 4000 are detailed.Especially the delays and chorus.ect I really dig them.But i seem to be the only one.Ha Edit-the 5000 CD drive is a special model and i dont think a normal consumer drive will work.Cool vid...
@@djbonne1 You will have to eventually replace the screen. Easy fix! Contact MPCSTUff and they will have what you need. Not an endorsement for Mpcstuff, but I do use them a lot.

I plug a mic into my 4k all the time, no prob (not 48v phantom obvs). I never fancied the 5k, think build quality put me off, I remember going to loook at it. Mod matrix and layering make the 4k a beast as you rightly say. Just about to pop mine open for an SSD and fan upgrade. :-) I've used the mod matrix as a synth too, a bit like the one on the 5k but I sample my analog oscillators and then use the mod matrix etc for the rest (which I imagine is pretty much what the 5k does, just they've done the sampling for you.). Got a Live too, thought the 4k might become a bit redundant but it very much still has its pluses and would never sell. Banged out a couple of D&B tracks the last couple of days on the 4k without even switching on the Live . In all honesty if it wasn't for the portability factor, I could easily live without the Live. For me, MPC 4k, a multi fx box, couple of analog monosynths and you are laughing. Filters aren't amazing, but you can do great stuff, Triple filter with multi layers all being modulated differently can take you on interesting journeys.LFO cycling of drum loops is another area you can go to town with. Nice vid.
I agree with everything you said. But I come to the realization to both the 5K and the 4K actually complement each other. It's cool either way that there's a hard disk recorder in MPC.
Spot on. The 4k was akai's last mpc. Everything branded akai after the 4k is a numark product. The build quality of the subsequent products was lessor.
I own every MPC ever made. Not bragging just making a point. The 4000 and legacy machines before it were made for the professional music makers, they were not made to cater to the at home producer, per se. The internal parts were warmer and added character to the production. The 1000 up to the now MPC One is made to cater to the times so IMO they lack character because they are being massed produced with less focus on the inner components. No one machine is better than the other, just different. It depends on what you are going for as far as response, sound and sonics. Make music and enjoy the process.

Comparisons exist, with that being one of these machines outshines another and one is simply the best mpc ever made until this day. And the 4000 will always outshines the 5000. The 5000 is best for beatmaking and the 4000 is it's counterpart with them both having digital outputs.
In terms of specs, the 4000 is more powerful. On the other hand, the 5000 was the first MPC to feature an onboard synthesizer. Hard to say which is better. That would depend on each user's individual needs/wants.
The 5000 also allows you to directly record to the hard drive for vocals & instruments. Plus mixing. You could produce an entire song inside the MPC5000. Just like the MV8800 machines could.
The 4k has the engine to synth any sample. Numark built the 5000 and just loaded samples to be their synth - just marketing to the naive. Any sample turned into a key group is technically a synth.

For live electronic sets and go crazy 2.0 5000 is the king. Drop next to it a jomox box and you have techno for years. Has the best fx also. The X feels like is an extension of ableton and it comes with pretty shit onboard synths and always out of sync but is a powerful tool to use with a midi clock master. Now For purists and the tightest clock 4000. But 2.0 5000 never drifted out of sync on me.
the 4000 is definitely the hardest to learn mpc because it is essentially a Z4/Z8 sampler with a mpc style sequencer stuck on. whereas all other mpc are made with being a drum machine as its primary goal. the 4000 is more of a fully fledged sampling workstation beast. 4000 and 5000 dont have jjos
@@theoutsideas my buddy has the 3000, and the 4000 is definitely close, real close.. between the 4 and 5000, you record the same kick in both machines, no effects, that kick is gonna kick harder for sure in the 4000. It's definitely got a better preamp circuit that represents the transients better. I mean the 4000 is based off the z8 sampler so it's a true sampler first.
4000 on up are overkill to me. If I want anything beyond a simple drum sampler and midi sequencer, I'll just get an MPC One or Live II. Otherwise, Im happy with my MPC 2000 Studio Plus.
The 4k kills the 2k... The 2 don't even compare. Not to mention than the 4k is far more reliable too. The 2k will have problems in the future not booting correctly.
5000 is the best. rip a cd straight from the 5000. one feature many don't know about is the ability to send the metronome out to the 8 outs. this is very useful. input thru is a real great feature. play start restarts the beat automatic without having to hit stop and hitting play start again. so many features to name that explains why the 5000 is thee best mpc ever made. any way continue to sleep on the 5000. lol, stay away from my mpc!!! I've owned about 6 different models by the way. I love them all

Eric Clapton has a signature Fender amp and guitar, but his best tones were a Gibson into a Marshall amp. If you think you can buy the gear a has been is pushing after their hay day for a quick check and that your getting what made them great when they used totally different gear, then you're definitely wrong.

I've had every mpc my 5000 set on fire, my 2500 broke over 20 times, my live broke in a few weeks, my live 2 broke after a year, my Ren broke, my fly broke, my 1000 broke, yet my 60 lasted decades until I sold it and my 3000 lasted over 20 years of being played for hours a day. If you want modem tech use a computer and midi a drum pad, the new mpc beats software mafe by this new imposter company posing as Akai is just a poor DAW on the level of free DAWs.

Ofc that impacts the sound engine on the units causing it to sound very sterile compared to a 3000. Dont even get me started on that POS akai software that always crashes and slows down for me. But as consumers we have no direct impacts on that except by providing feedback. But you cant really bash a producer for accepting a nice sponsorship check (and some free akai gear) to feed his family.
When I connect my mpc live to my mac and start working in the mpc software daw....it crashes after a while depending on what I'm doing. It works perfectly in standalone. Do you experience this with your X?
It's not the same the X is a crappy version of Maschine made by Grande (not Akai) they make all the new trash Akai branded units, they are a cheap crappy electrical products that break company from Asia, they brand the units as akai because no one would buy their trash otherwise, the 4k and the units made before were genuinely made by Akai to a high standard, if you like cheap trash that's your preference I suggest you set amazon star rating to 1 on the filter after searching midi controller and fill your online basket with trash until your hearts content, that or I guess the influencers who get free gear in return for good really got to you, keep buying trash dude, your leaving more quality units on the market for guys like me, thank you kindly for your servitude my dude.
