    Deco art products are expensive in UK, like almost all products described as cheap in US, but no here. I use Polyvine heavy duty wood varnish on the top which is waterproof, uv proof and heat proof.

    I just wanted to hop on and say that there really is a difference between “the other” decoupage glue and the Deco Art Napkin product. Far fewer wrinkles with the deco art product. It was absolutely astonishing. I couldn’t find it locally so I had to order it, and I’m so glad I did.

      I would like to know this as well. I just used the top coat spray mentioned in THIS video, but I found my heated mug stuck to my coaster. Going to try another coating to see if it works better as the top coat mentioned in her new video is VERY expensive and out of stock. I hope we get a reply from patioelf

    Thanks for sharing this video! I made some coasters with decoupage technique. I sealed the surface with Mod Podge for 4-5 times. After one week, I used Dupli-Color Varnish and let the tiles to cure for a week. Then when I put a very hot mug on the tile, it didn't stick but there was a deep circle. Could you please tell me what the problem was?

    When you use the mdf for the coasters do you apply a layer of decoupage over the napkin before adding the sealing spray? I just want to make sure I do it correctly..beautiful

    Question - instead of applying one thick coat of decoupage glue over the chalk paint, could you do two coats? If so, how long should you let the first coat dry before apply the second? Thanks so much for the wonderful video - you explained the process so well!!

    I am pretty new at crafting. I've started making some cement coasters and decoupaging podge and napkins on them. I guess great minds think a like. Cause when it came time to seal it. I also got the heat enamel spray.😂
    I'm doing a test run on a few today. But I think it is going to do great.

    I just made a bunch of tiles using this iron method and I love it. I found a picture online that I printed onto normal photo copy paper. Can it be decoupaged onto the ceramic tile, and made the exact same way as with these napkins? And can it also be finished with the same heat resistant product to be used for hot drinks?

    Hello, Patti! Really appreciate this video. I’ve hesitated to start do coasters because of all of the conflicting information out there. I’ve been told that the best sealer to use is Polyvine (the one with the 3 shells on the front). Everyone says it’s the absolute best. They say if you just cannot find this that the only other thing that works, but not quite as well, as high heat clear engine enamel. I’m so confused! I really wish I’d seen your video before I bought so many different formulations of the other brand. If I thin it out, do you think it will be okay?

    • @marykatherine9098
      @marykatherine9098 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hi I agree Polyvine with the shells is the one I use and it works perfectly. I use a sealer like matte medium first to seal the napkin in place first then let it dry completely then I use the polyvine. I tested it with coffee cups and it works. Not sure how high the heat resistance is but it is good enough for coffee cups.

    I'm quite new to "decoupage" but I've been a gaming crafts hobbiest for quite some time. I've been watching a LOT of videos about decoupage and there seems to be a common thread of problems related to "heat sealing" this stuff. This video, and the ones that feature "ironing" have unknowlingly revealed why decoupage gets "tacky" when hot cups are put on it. It's because heat re-activates decoupage glue...it's the heat that turns it soft and tacky again. All of the videos I've watched talk about different types of sealers, such as acrylic, ceramic, spray on car sealer, etc. But I think the real problem might be the use of a heat-activated base coat. If you were to use a sealer as both the under and top coats, would this not solve the problem? Have you tried using sealers on the base and top coat, with the printed medium in-between?

    • @retroredo9850
      @retroredo9850 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Im late replying but I have used other methods. I watch here for her best methods and advice but I know what you mean about heat activated. Im 67 now and we did amatuer decoupage in young teens which was late 60s, early 70s. All I knew of then was using "varnish". Not knowing what it was but did know it was the kind needing turpentine to clean brushes. Im the type that when I wanted to make my own chalk paint I also looked up what chalk was! So we used the varnish both under and over the decoupage that literally was pics from magazines that could in todays methods have smeared but not with the varnish? Right now I use elmers cheap glue with water. I find it worked fine for my first project. I did buy the one not talked about but I think watering that one down or even adding a spot of glue may make it work better. I put napkins on a set of those stone coasters supposed to absorb water but they absorbed coffee stains. Used my homemade chalk paint I make with Behr sample paints and plaster patch powder. My glue and water, both under and over. let set and use clear wax on top. Works great. No issues. In this case I wonder at what tiles she used? The only thing good about things that dont work out I usually find whatever it is peels off easy includng paint not sticky or napkins.

      Ive also seen people use an iron to stick the item they want to decoupage onto a dried acrylic top coat. Then top coat again. No wrinkles.

    hello, I am brand new to decoupage and just saw your video. I was told by the store sales manager that the glues were all the same- whether I use Mod Podge or the no-name, so I took the no-name (craftsmart). I hadn't heard of your brand, nor do we see it in our craft stores (I see it is available on amazon though). I used the same top coat as you did. While the cup did not stick to the coaster, it did leave grooves. If I was to order your decoupage glue and put a coat or two on top of the top coat and put another top coat on, would that stop the hot cup from leaving grooves? It is too late to start completely new. Thank you.

      Awww, that's really special. One day I'll do a pet video where we can decoupage our pets onto something but I'm trying to get an idea of what else we can decoupage over. :)
      hugs GF!

    Hello, I tried your technique on slate but it didn't work. I applied black chalky paint,then the decoart matte glue , then the napkin. I also ironed the napkin and everything looked good until I put on the deco art matte glue for the second coat. Alot of the black beneath came through and also bubbly. Is it because the black slate will not work with this technique?

    I know this is an old video, but I'm hoping someone can help me. When you use the engine spray that you mentioned at the end, do you bake your tiles to cure it? Or do you let it sit for a specified amount of time to air dry? I tried air drying it for 3 weeks and unfortunately a hot mug still stuck and left a ring.

    Has anyone tried this topcoat? I just sprayed a coaster with Duplicolor acrylic engine enamel which is I believe very similar to this posters top coat. Waited two days but hot mugs still stuck. Is it that she didn't heat cup in microwave? Bottom of her mug is very small? Cure time?
    UPDATE 1/18/21: waited several weeks for the engine spray to cure. Worked like a charm. You won't have high gloss finish but hot mugs (ones that are microwaved) will not stick. It was the curing time that worked I think.

      @@lisa_marie_1982 it was at least three weeks (maybe more). However, my sister-un-law who Igave them to said they do leave a ring (you have to look for it though). . I was so disappointed. I've given up coaster making because of this. Good luck, hope you figure it out.
