Thank you! All well said and right what I needed to hear as I begin to comeback. I played the horn for 40 plus years, and walked away and the time off with your advice was so on target for me!

so useful. Patience is king. If one expand his register of half step a week you end with a 4 and a half octaves in a year. I would be happy of three

My job caused me to. I’ve been deployed 3x. I am CPT in the Armed Forces. I definitely need this video.
    This will be my therapy...

I'm taking a little break myself. Looks like we'll all need a corona-comeback.

I’m coming back at 68. My stroke nixed guitar playing so I bought a new Getz 700s and diving into it. No hurry.

Thanks for the inspiration again; have seen your video before, years ago. I became a comeback trumpet player officially in 2010; had been off the horn over 45 yrs. Beginner's school band, through freshman year of high school, really rocking the horn. Just before my second year of high school, had gum disease issues, and lost all upper teeth. That killed my trumpet playing. Didn't officially pick it up again until the year I was able to go on social security and go part time at work. Immediately hooked up with an amazing adult concert band, and begin taking lessons while practicing regularly. Stayed with that band, with occasional moments of discouraging moments that caused me to drop out of the band for few months, then back again. In 2016 we relocated back to PA where I connected and played with an adult concert band, briefly with a local symphony orchestra, and finally with a local college band, all good but taking up too much time for me. Sold my high school horn in Dec '16, suffering from another bout with discouragement, then borrowed our son's high school trumpet for awhile, finally finding a good deal on another (my third trumpet), which I had just purchased from a Virginia Beach, VA friend who played in the first concert band I played with, where we became close friends; she even tutored me a couple times before we moved back to PA. Since my original official comeback, I went through the moments you mentioned, not happy with how things were going, moments where I just decided that it wasn't meant to be. Then getting over those dark moments, and rediscovered my deep passion for trumpet playing. You are hundred percent right about everything you mentioned in your video. Nothing can stop me now, and my new horn is the best I've ever owned; a King Silver Sonic Anniversary Model 1883-1993. Thanks again for your input.

Great to hear your story, Clarence! Best to you and your trumpet playing. Keep us posted!

Thanks for this video. I'm coming back to the trumpet, well, flugelhorn now, after a seven year layoff. Curbing my expectations is a must, especially given my own personal background in music. (I'll keep all that to myself, I don't want to come off as arrogant.)
Anyway, thanks again for your video! You just earned a subscriber!

Crap. Maybe that came off as arrogant anyway. Ugh.

Great vid man, but just one point: Old fuckers like myself who are not comeback players but just started real late (53 in my case), may feel we have SO much to learn before we get too old to do it that we do a bit more than is good for us.

Yeah endurance is the hardest part. I was blasting a solid double A by the end of the first week but had no endurance. Just goes to show everyone who thinks you need strength to have range is wrong.

I own Four trumpets. I have tone. I can play a few songs by ear,but my endurance is short. I’m a come back player. That’s what she said.

I’ve broken all the rules and just doodle things I really like a few minutes a day. That’s been more successful than having a method book I never play.
I think it’s more the psychology of living with how far I am from where I use to be and where I still want to be. And believing if I just keep that few minutes a day workout it will pay off in the long run 🙏🏼 🎺 🎶

    Hey, great video improtant stuff!!
You could improve a little on your speechmelody: You try to ephasize your messages thats cool but dont use the same brake. between. the. words. technique over 30 second periods of time (or more)

Thanks for checking it out, the helpful tip, and thinking I use techniques! ;-) I will definitely take your suggestion to heart as I figure out what I'm doing over here movie-wise. Thanks Kartoffel!!

Hey there. I used to play trumpet in high school. I wouldn’t call myself a pro, but I would say I was solid somewhere in intermediate level. I always have loved music and brass music especially. And now I want to get back into it. I have a Bach Strad that is bone dry, and neglected. I’m wondering if fixing it is worth it, or should I just get a new decent horn. I don’t need anything professional, just something that can get me through beginner to intermediate playing. And maybe one day if I ever get good enough I could go back to a professional level trumpet.

Hi, Joseph - if you haven't already, take the Bach into a shop and get it worked. Even if you ultimately don't play that horn they do hold value over time. Best of luck!

I played for over 10 years. I haven’t played in 5 years. I picked it up today if I practice everyday will I get back my chops that I use to have?.
