I recently bought an older set of Paul Rubens that was on sale on Amazon, and then this came out and I wanted it but the price was $70 Canadian; a bit high after just buying a different set. But today is prime day and they went on sale, and I just watched your video and saw that the colors in this set are almost all different from my set (only a few the same), so I just ordered it, lol. Thank you so much for this review.
Little tip for the pans that are falling out - pop a drop of water at the bottom of the pan and stick it onto it and it should then adhere properly to the plastic case (in my experience). I think, if I didn't have so many premium artist quality watercolours, this set would definitely be a good purchase. Especially for anyone that is just starting out, they look like a really well rounded colour palette. Loved the Scottish translucency scale Gem!
Hullo Gem, I have enjoyed watching your version of these paints under review just about everywhere I look! I am a believer in buying what you can afford, and there are good products in watercolor that are not top of the line that allows anyone to create a very good picture! Once you decide watercolors are a medium you like I say replace your paints as you use them up with better ones. I am always encouraging people to upgrade paper first! Now the 400 series from Strathmore is a good paper, but you can find 100% cotton paper for equal or lower prices! Brands are NOT the major consideration for buying paper it is cotton content. Sure Arches has the best reputation for working in watercolor and art in general they make a superior paper, you will pay for that reputation and I have done so many times! I have recommended Mimik watercolor brushes for their quality and price and this is second on my list when upgrading your supplies. Why is paint last to upgrade? Because even a good student brand made with pigments is going to be able to create some wonderful paintings and depending upon the paper used can last for many years!
