no it wasnt....going BAD period was. this was a cash cow. to release that FPS half finished and so broken was the true crime. many games transcend their original formula and do great....this one didnt survive...someone somewhere made the same caliber of decisions command and conquer made....and now more recently GTA and battlefield. when games get hindered by studio bureaucracy they die...developers no longer make games...studios dictate it all.
The rights were bought by a company named Kalypso, there will be new games in a year or two :) The likes are, that they will be like the first in the series (no FPS shooter).
Because of the cancer called Call of Duty........same reason why a perfect platform adventure game like Prince of Persia became a boring 3D garbage: Tomb Raider

James Bond? how cool it is the Commandos Strike Force if they had advance like any other games... i want to compare the Spy with Hitman but Hitman is such a great game (and my favourite too), i dont expect the commandos developer to make the Spy as great as Hitman (as they already have 2 other elements to put in)... but hey, imagine a Hitman like game has 3 switchable characters in game where only 1 can have disguise ability, and 2 others best on the other roles, such as thief (climb buildings/parkour) and the other one, complete Brute suitable for handling in dangerous situation just in case things gone bad.... i will throw it all on commandos but sadly... will they be revived again?? commandos series doesnt have to improve much on their stealth-RTS (imo) area as they already reach the best, but i think it is also hard for them to maintain 'the best' for so long, but eventhough i still have faith in them but sadly... they are gone... just i think if one day commandos series will be revived again, ill bet they will blow the peoples mind out and really teached the world what is GAME all about...there are many great games out there and i really love it in their own way, but most of the games (other than what i liked the best) were just a movie, there is no gaming elements anymore, i hope people get back to game rather than a movie, a game is a place where we control everything, a movie is just a game that plays by itself and i just need to sit back and watch it goes... whether their strategy was stupid or crappy, they still wins... that is not a game

Damm, this brings back memories, I grew up on Commandos 2 and 3. Still now, after just listening to music and seeing a level for few seconds I can remember the exact level in Commandos 2. I think that thanks to playing this game as a kid I've developed my logical thinking and english quite a bit. This game and Robin Hood were so much fun back in the days
I first watched my cousin (~18 years old) play this game when I was just ~6 years old. Even watching him play, with the various tactics deployed, used to keep me hooked for hours. I got my own PC when I was ~12 years old, and this was one of the first games I installed on it. It was brutal in the beginning, but I learnt and persevered. Quick Save FTW. I remember the game even had level codes to access the levels directly, and I'd written them all down in a piece of paper which I kept safe, just in case. It really helped because my HDD did eventually die and I lost all my saves. I think I took around 2 years to finish the first two games, and Commandos 3 released just after a few months. I finished that faster though. Fun times.
C2:MoC is by far the BEST ever! Those spanish developers are insane to have built this awesome game! But I hate C5! I don't know what's on their minds to make C5 into a shooter game! C2:MoC is perfect in every way, its meticulous graphics, great music, scenarios and all. The character movements are realistic! This reminds me of months of completion some dozen of years ago, then replayed each mission with different styles and strategies. I would certainly buy the widescreen remake of C2:MoC if there's any!
Good old days......C2 was the ABSOLUTE BEST of the series. Is there some way this can be played at 1920*1080? This game alone puts most of the current crop of AAA games in the dust. If I remember correctly.. there were around 10 HUMONGOUS levels that were breathtakingly beautiful with the isometric viewpoint that also could be rotated to give a completely different perspective too the ongoing shenanigans.

Unfortunately no widescreen version available as of yet, as it would incur some rewrite for nowadays graphic cards. Just like Microsoft made a reboot to the 2002's Age of Mythology in widescreen extended edition12 years later (2014).
I played Beyond the Call of Duty Commandos 2. And completed all the 8 missions in 2003 and 2004. Today I am back to listen only the briefing at the start of each mission. Really so sweet accent and pronunciation. I want to use that particular accent in my life.

Oh Commandos! Absolutely love the first game, the expansion pack and the second game. The third game looks very good but took it one step too far. I understand that they want to push the boundaries (can't make the same game forever) but the first game had such a solid idea. I never played the last game and it seems like I ain't missing much. Anyone remember "Desperados"? I loved that first game but they did two more games with a different approach. The later games aren't that bad to be honest but just like with Commandos: The original concept is so good. I find no reason to mix it up! If a new game with the similar approach and quality to early Commandos or first Desperados game came up today. I'd buy it in a heartbeat. Would support it as much as I possibly could to!
There is "Desperados" but if you would ever like to go medieval there is always "Robin Hood: The Legend of Sherwood" for you. Pretty much same concept but way different time periods, in case you might be interested just felt like throwing it out for ya to hopefully have some good time. ^_^
I played this game when I had my first PC at 15. I played it again while being stressed during my Masters thesis. Now I am 31, teaching at the Engineering college for last three years and still playing it. For sure this is the best PC game ever made, at least for me.
i remember i used to stand my commandos in very odd spots and shoot the pistol and enemies would come rushing and i just start gunning down countless waves of enemies until they depleted. best tatctic ever, and best strategy game ever.
C:BEL C:BTCOF MoC and Commandos 3 are true gems..........If you want to move a level up towards this strategy games, I will say you have to go for JAGGED ALLIANCE: BACK IN ACTION.......It's what Commandos 4 should have been......same strategy game, but with free camera, you can pre-establish the attacks, and each character has its own strenghts and weakness, and they improve with the development of the game (the reason why jagged alliance original fans didn't liked it is because the originals were played by turns, and this new ones were real time, like Commandos). I will say without a doubt, that JAGGED ALLIANCE: BACK IN ACTION and CROSSFIRE are without a doubt, one of the best strategy games I played similar to commandos. I will say its superior to commandos 3 no doubt. The RPG part is what stands out over it. The weapons customization, the amount of different weapons (rocket launchers, axes, blades, sniper rifle, the terrain levels (which adds the need to analyse it to find hiding places, places to ambush the enemy...etc).
i remember playing a game where you fight on a train its the same genre of these games but not sure if its one of them maybe someone can refresh my memory
I would just love to have more missions for an hd version of commandos 2. I wish one day someone will do it. Every single mission of that game was just amazing, bonus missions included. I played it countless times on every difficulty. There was something magic with it: the music, the ambient, the costumes, the rain, the details and the fantasy you could use to finish a mission always in a different way. And lot of secrets and hidden areas to discover. I was just loving the fact you could take anything from the dead enemies (thing you couldn't do in any other chapter of the serie). I remember how disappointing was for me commandos 3 when it came out, it was a step behind on everything. Lot of missing abilities and possibilities. Even in the menu area! Don't want to mention the 4th one, it's not a commandos game.

They actually sold Commandos games IP to the german company called Kalypso Studios who seems to be very good at making strategy games! kalypso Studios are going to remaster the last versions of Commandos and they are also going to make an entirely a new Commandos game!!! But no one knows when...But lets just hope they bring back the same Commandos as Commandos 2 and 3 ! Or a mixture of both!!!
I recommend to all of you a GREAT GREAT mod for Commandos 2 men of courage which was the best game in Commandos series : Commandos 2 Destination Paris!!!! This mod adds hundreds of challenging and fun mission and includes all the missions from Commandos BEL and Commandos BCD and even C3 and C SF , in the style of Commandos 2 men of courage!!!!! It also adds new weapons and abilities for Commandos and its just makes the game PERFECT!!!!! It gives it some kind of an RPG style without taking the REAL style of Commandos game!!!! I am not fan of mods, but Commandos 2 Destination Paris mod is making Commandos 2 men of courage more perfect than it was before!!!
I fon't really like the dp verdion of comm 2 I played it what it brings is just more sensitivity to the ai more infinete ammo weapons and combining missions into one I like it but I don't love it

I suggest eidos copying style of desperados hell dorado as they have designed 1st person as well as helicopter view combined and introduce further commandos game. I'm ready to pay $100 for the next CD.

why don't they sell off the license to an active studio? :( I miss Commandos
They actually sold Commandos games IP to the german company called Kalypso Studios who seems to be very good at making strategy games! kalypso Studios are going to remaster the last versions of Commandos and they are also going to make an entirely a new Commandos game!!! But no one knows when...But lets just hope they bring back the same Commandos as Commandos 2 and 3 ! Or a mixture of both!!!

I recommend to all of you a GREAT GREAT mod for Commandos 2 men of courage which was the best game in Commandos series : Commandos 2 Destination Paris!!!! This mod adds hundreds of challenging and fun mission and includes all the missions from Commandos BEL and Commandos BCD and even C3 and C SF , in the style of Commandos 2 men of courage!!!!! It also adds new weapons and abilities for Commandos and its just makes the game PERFECT!!!!! It gives it some kind of an RPG style without taking the REAL style of Commandos game!!!! I am not fan of mods, but Commandos 2 Destination Paris mod is making Commandos 2 men of courage more perfect than it was before!!!
I fon't really like the dp verdion of comm 2 I played it what it brings is just more sensitivity to the ai more infinete ammo weapons and combining missions into one I like it but I don't love it
Why didn't you credit any of the people making the actual footage? For example you took all footage for first two games from Spek, as far as I can tell. I don't see him mentioned anywhere.
this game definitely need to be remastered.
I suggest eidos copying style of desperados hell dorado as they have designed 1st person as well as helicopter view combined and introduce further commandos game. I'm ready to pay $100 for the next CD.
