Yeah, it’s a reminder that he’s a comedian. Which can be easy to forget with how deep he goes. As a long time fan, I appreciate when people just “get” the material. Some of the best reactions I’ve seen. Keep it up man.

Man, that part in the middle about her mom is, to me at least, the main point of the song. Everyone has a different interpretation, but to me, it starts off making everyone okay with making fun of white women for posting the same cliche things, then right as you’re onboard with making fun of them, it hits you with the emotional part about how her mom died and it’s been hard but she’s figuring it out. Then the “give a hug and kiss to dad” to tell you she lost both parents. Then it jumps back into making jokes and, to me, kinda says, “What? You were laughing at her for this stuff just a minute ago? Did you just realize this is a real human with their own struggles that they might just be covering up with happy/corny instagram posts?”

      And going by the 27 balloons, her mom must have died when she was 17 ;.;

Then, in the middle of the cliche stuff, he hits us with , " three little words, a couple of doves, and a ring on her finger from the person that she loves", and I'm like, did that boyfriend she was telling her mom about propose to her? You go girl!
And then I'm like holy shit, I'm emotionally invested in this woman's Instagram account now.
      Bo is a fucking genius.

If you also notice that in an earlier image it shows the age 27. And during the slow part he says it's been 10 years. So this woman lost both parents by 17

It's also a reminder of how our society judges the ways women cope with pain more harshly than they judge the way men often do (or don't) cope.

went in thinking haha white women Instagram bad, came out rooting for a young girl who lost her mom at 17, and who lost her dad, but got a job, lives in her own apartment, got a boyfriend whom she loves and ended up marrying, is emotionally healthy, and incredibly talented at creating visual masterpieces

Love this one for all the visuals. A lot of his songs from inside just hit a lot harder when your watching the visual production and not just listening to an album.
Love your reactions from day 1 when you started my man. Keep it going.

Bo pokes at a bunch of different people and groups, but I really appreciate that it doesn't feel like he's punching down at us. It's just genuinely funny while putting a good message hidden inside, exactly what he does best. You should watch Straight White Man

There's usually a little extra depth to Bo's songs.. ya might think he's just dunking on 'basic' white girls, but the bit in the middle shows he kinda understands even if it's all a little goofy, it's those particular womens' way of making it through the world.. to focus on cute, silly things.
You could argue they ignorant and flippant.. and some are.. but I think alot of them are just kinda trying to make it and if that helps them so what... beats getting wasted.
Polo, idk if you've seen the 'inside' special in its entirety yet, but imo it's best taken as a whole. He's really going deep on this one.. he does on all his specials, but 'inside' is probably the most explicitly philosophical.. but keep exploring his catalog, you can't really miss.

I feel like I’m leaving this content a more compassionate and loving person toward ppl I would have judged way too harshly. Damn. 😮

The art here is in the details. Notice when he’s portraying a stereotypical instagram girl the frame is set to look like instagram, but when it hits the deep part of the girl opening up, the frame opens up with her as to show people can be real when they’re OUTSIDE of social media

Bo always find a way to draw in the mass of casual audiences looking for low hanging-fruit to laugh at, then he suddenly hits you with an opposing perspective that makes you see things and think about things in a new light.
Pure fucking genius that makes you FEEL, which is incredibly lacking in today’s pop culture, music specifically.

My guess is the incorrectly attributed quoted would be more like this one from Frodo "It is useless to meet revenge with revenge. It will heal nothing." But it is funny to think of other lines from lotr that would be hilarious out of context like "Lembas! Elvish waybread. One small bite is enough to fill the stomach of a grown man.”

Throughout the special "Inside" pay attention to the aspect ratio. In this song, most of the time you are in "iPhone" ratio - the "curated" view - the inauthentic presented self. But when this person starts to talk about real life, authentic pain, authentic loss, it widens out into widescreen ratio -- real life -- real authentic self. And then she goes back to performative life.

I like to watch these reacts to see who catches the middle part. I think pausing it often makes it difficult to catch the moment... many of us are listening through laughing at the jokes and then suddenly WHAM the center section hits hard. It's not often suddenly I stop whatever I'm doing and just go "woah..." because it hits hard out of nowhere. But you gotta be paying attention.

Many people have comment about the breakdown, but I think it's kind of cool to think about how the perspective changes and if it should. Like we all know an average white woman's Instagram, but if we actually saw those posts like they're real people, as soon as you see something about a dead family member, it should take you out of that judgemental perspective. So that when the jokes start again, you're realizing how the average white woman uses social media to get away from their trauma in those ways.

I love how it seems about a "basic white chick" and the the part with the mom and the dad, it hits different

  • @reactwatcher

this one grows on you. but a bit repetitive no doubt. the aspect ratio being 1by1 square like instagram during all the bits that were vapid/performative. but then the screen widening when she is vulnerable and honest about her mom

  • @jaybe33

I bit of creativity that I think a lot of people miss is the fact that the majority of the video is shot in portrait rather to mimic instagram photos. It pans to a wide shot during the part about her mom and then shrinks back towards the end of that part. Such a small detail that goes a long way.

Great video Polo I would reccomend a super early video of his that is criminally underrated and that was "Rehab for Fictional Characters" it is another one that will definitly make you laugh and gauge especually in his early days where he was headed with his talent. Regardless can't wait for another video oh and sure enough there is one haha. I just have to say you are working your @§$ off man, hats off to you with full respect Polo and best of luck with your patrion you deserve all the support you can get. Here is a link to that video reccomendation if you are curious.

I’m enjoying your reactions to Bo a lot! From Gods Perspective is another great one of his.
Also, ever listened to the group BTS? I’d love to see you react to them. I recommend their music videos: On Kinetic Manifesto, Black Swan, Mic Drop, and Fake Love.
Daechwita music video is also a good place for a fan of rap to start down the BTS rabbit hole. It’s a solo track from BTS rapper Suga (aka Agust D).

I believe the whole song is in the frame perspective of Instagram to show the shallowness of it, then talking about the "mom" part opens up when the person does
