I settled on this one, particularly because there's just me in the house. I tell you. I've become a rice-cooking fool. And OMG. The job it does on rolled oats!!! I share your enthusiasm for this cooker.
Isn't it fun to use? :-D I use it at least once per week, usually more. I made creamy wheat hot cereal in it yesterday. It came out perfect however, it wasn't as much of a set it and forget it because this type of cereal needs to be added to water already boiling. So I added the cereal to the water after it started simmering, stirred it a bit then covered and walked away. It was delicious and creamy! Thanks for watching! :)

So helpful. I just got this rice cooker today and felt like an idiot as I couldn't understand how much water to add! This replaces my 25+ year old rice cooker I got at a garage sale and have been battling with stuck rice for years. The Oster cooker is amazing, so easy and makes great rice! Thanks for this!
Did your rice cooker come with a user manual? It explains about the markings inside the pot for measuring water. It is a very nice cooker, my fave so far of all the units I've owned.
I’m so glad I found your review on this Oster Rice cooler . I’ve never owned a rice cooker and I’m tired of cooking rice on the stove top. I absolutely didn’t want to spend a 100$ plus on a rice cooker . I’m sold on the Oster Rice cooker . Thank you for the review. Awesome!!

Omg you're the first reviewer who's explained the cups thing - as in, the cups in American (non-metric) rice cooker volume descriptions refer to the number of cups of COOKED rice. I've been trying to catch a cute one for single servings 😊 and got a Panasonic 3NA. On another note, I don't think I'll understand quarts or fluid ounces 😂😂😂.
I just bought mine this exact model for $10 and I fell in love with it since the first use, so easy to use with great results if instructions are followed! Very essential to read and follow the instructions! :)
I just wanted to confirm it is okay/normal for the inner pot to be so loose after I put it in. Phew! We have had this rice cooker for ages as a gift, but we already had a rice cooker so we hadn't used it. No manual, parts spread throughout the house, so this helped me make sure I had the right parts and everything was working as it should. Thanks so much!
I got mine from a friend but seems to be a bit different. There is just a max line on mine inside the metal kettle. I will be testing out the finger knuckle method instead so rinse, dump and add water. I added a little salt as you did and some butter to help from sticking and flavor. Thank you for all the help!
Thank you for your detailed instructions on rice cooking. I’m used to cooking rice in a sauce pan. But I’m about to try it the first time. Wish me luck! Again thanks for sharing the info. I so much appreciate it. ❤
That's awesome! I saw it on sale when I was at Target the other day. Glad my video was helpful! Thanks for watching and have fun with your new rice cooker. :)

I am not sure if you read these comments anymore, but I would like to say that I loved this review! I am headed to the store today to grab one of these but the 1-star reviews scared me! Thank you for clearing up all the questions and concerns I had. Amazing review:)
Thank you for this complete and helpful TH-cam! This is my first rice cooker. I bought the Oster Waffle Maker with DuraCeramic, so when I saw this little rice cooker, I was happy to try it. We love the waffle maker, using Better Crocker's 1948 Pancake Recipe, so I now can't wait to use this new appliance as a rice maker and oatmeal maker! It was the only rice cooker offered at our local Target, still $19.99, in 2019. It's a good one, because it's a healthy cooking surface and is fast and efficient. GREAT review, and thanks again.
I really like this rice cooker, use it weekly. :) Glad you enjoyed my review! I make oatmeal in it quite often, hardly ever on the stove anymore. I love that I can put everything in and walk away. Thanks for watching! :)
@@helpfulnatural Hello again -- just tried oatmeal in this rice cooker, and it came out beautifully. It literally CAME OUT BEAUTIFULLY. No sticking! Thanks for the idea!
@@jacquelinetaylor3595 That's great! I usually add some nuts and/or dried fruit to my oatmeal. But recently made a batch and added shredded zucchini, cinnamon, ginger, chopped walnuts, a splash of vanilla extract and maple syrup. So good!!
Thanks for the detailed review, especially about the measuring cup. I wanted to point out that the listings on Amazon for this model, the ceramic pot, say that the power is 700 watts, not 350W. The same model but with the "diamond force non-stick" pot is 350W. Power consumption for me is a big thing. So I need to make sure. 700 watts to cook rice is too much power, my instant pot is only 650W.
I also have a review of the newer "Diamond Force" model of this Oster rice cooker. I didn't like it at all. They changed from the DuraCeramic back to Teflon, which I don't understand since most people are trying to get away from Teflon. I returned it. As for the higher wattage it had, it didn't cook the rice any fast than this at 350 watts. I still use this little cooker for white rice but prefer to use my Instant Pot for brown rice as it's much quicker. Thanks for watching!
Thank you for this video, it narrowed it down as to which rice cooker to get, also I had to tell you, that you sound a lot like Edie Falco from TV show Nurse Jackie & Tommy. I so love her.. Again thank you for the Review! Be Blessed!
It's a nice little rice cooker, I love it! Now that the weather is getting cooler, I'll be using it to make oatmeal. :) Well, I don't have Ms. Falco's east coast accent as I'm from the upper Midwest. Thanks for watching! :)
Just got one today and your video is the first I clicked on to see how to work this slow cooker out. I just moved on my own and learning how to cook little by little! Making rice and chicken!!! Wish me luck! Lol
Thanks! So glad you found it helpful. I try to be thorough in my reviews...some people find it annoying. But they're probably also the type that throw away the user manual, then crab later when something isn't working right. Thanks for watching! :)
I am SO glad to have found this video! Wanted to make rice in my new rice cooker but I lost my instruction manual. I made rice last night by following your lead and it was perfect. I'm going to use it all of the time now! Would have never known to wash my rice well without your advice. Thanks for posting!
@@melissak8892 So glad it was helpful! Yes, always wash your rice first no matter what kind it is...white, brown, red, black, etc... It makes a big difference in the outcome. Thanks for watching! :)
I just came across this video cause I bought mine today at Target & your video was so helpful! For someone who doesn’t know how to cook rice I can say I’m excited to try making rice on this baby 😊
Great video! Thank you, I just bought this recently & it’s my first time using a rice cooker. I’ve been doing it old school on the stove. I appreciate the information.
*Thank you madam for the video. I am going to Target to buy this rice cooker. I moved from India to the US last week and almost struggling to cook rice using a pressure cooker. I think this will be much easier to use.*
@@helpfulnatural Disaster!! I just tried making 3 cups of rice. I used the little rice measuring cup and poured in just 3 of it. Then I filled the water up to the line of the number 3. I added a bay leaf and a small pad of butter to it. Then after about 10 minutes after pressing the level down, the bubbles were about to overflow over! I just removed the lid periodically , but i saw it would just keep cooking, so eventually i just turned the cooker off and let it steam. I don't think my rice cooker automatically turns off to "Keep Warm". I think i need to manually turn it off.
@@c0mmment First off, did you rinse the rice thoroughly before cooking it? This is a very important step because the excess starch on the rice grains swell in the cooking water and become very gummy and foamy, which will cause it to boil over. Also, the cooker should click to the 'keep warm' function when the water has been cooked away/absorbed by the rice. It will not click over until all the water has been absorbed. Hope this helps. :)
@@helpfulnatural Hi thank you for the fast reply. I did not rinse the rice because I am using Riceland Rice which is enriched with vitamins. The instructions say "do not rinse before or drain after cooking." I guess that caused the water to be very foamy which causes the water to swell like you said :( I turned it off but I haven't lifted the lid yet. I think there will still be water in it based on what you said. Let's see.... Yea, the rice is very soft/moist now because of the error. Do you have any tips or ways to make it work without rinsing the rice before? Or should I just buy a different rice brand
watch your long video at work nothing happening here night shift so felt good hearing someone give their honest review. and I was almost close to buying the other cooker but not anymore :)
Lol! Glad my long, drawn out video helped with your decision. :-D Thanks for watching! :) I have other videos using this rice cooker....none of them are this long. :D
I'm so happy I stumbled my way here! I've been conflicted on what rice cooker to buy and what is worth its price. Your review has made it easier for me to make a decision! Ordering mine now! Thank you got your review! Subscribing for more helpful wisdom 😊
Thanks for the video. I have this one and learned some things! I don't like that the "Keep Warm" stays on, I wish it would cut off after 10 minutes because you can't "set it and forget it" with this cooker like my old one that broke. I'm going to go dig out the plastic measuring cup that came with the pot now. :)
It's a nice little rice cooker that does an excellent job. However it doesn't have all the bells and whistles of the more expensive models that use fuzzy logic. Thanks for watching! :)
OMG! You are the only one here who covered every corner of my questions I had about the dura-ceramic, titanium infused one(The one to the left). I was going to buy the red one, but something told me to look at the reviews. There's a lady who made a TH-cam video who made the only mess in her kitchen, simply because she didn't wash the rice(🤣)! Thank you for your informative video!!! PS, yes, I will make sure I read the brochure and I will hold on to the enclosed "measuring cup". 👍 QUESTION: Can I add oil to the steamer, in addition to salt to cook the rice?
Glad my video was helpful to you! Yes, I always wash my rice before cooking, less messy and tastes better. :) And I always add a pinch of salt to the rice. :) As for adding oil to the steamer basket, I've never tried it but whatever liquid is added to the steamer, will drip down into the rice. Were you just going to coat it to prevent sticking?
@@helpfulnatural Ok thanks. I typically add a little of bit of oil & mince a clove of garlic or two to the white rice. It adds flavor. I do the same for yellow rice, but I also add spanish sofrito. It tastes delicious once you create the right concoction if spanish sofrito. I don't own a cooker yet. I will buy one soon.
@@bronx-calizoo5132 I've never added oil to my rice but if it works when cooked traditionally on the stove I don't see why you couldn't try it in the rice cooker. I'd be very interested to hear how it came out. When you get your cooker, come back and let me know how it turned out. :)
Bronx-Cali Zoo, I saw her video and was panicking because I just bought this same rice cooker! Happy to hear it was because she didn’t follow directions. I noticed she didn’t wash the rice too but didn’t connect the two!! I feel much better now!

Great review! Currently looking for a rice cooker and veggies steamer since me and my husband will start meal prepping. You sold me. Add to my cart target!! Will watch your brown rice video since my husband wants brown but I prefer white lol
Thanks! It's the best rice cooker I've used so far and I've had more than a few over the past 8 years. This cooker cooks both brown and white rice very well. I make both types quite often. It is very consistent with both. Thanks for watching and have fun with your new rice cooker! :)
@@helpfulnatural Thanks for the review. I just bought one! I picked it up at a closeout store for $11.00. Can't wait to use it. Also, I have an Electric kettle that I use for boiling water. I only ever put water in it. I use it for making oatmeal. The water heats in minutes. Mine is a Chantal Tea Kettle 32oz brushed stainless. It's one of the best purchases we've ever made. Hopefully, the rice cooker will land on that list as well.
@@vivy45 I love this rice cooker. It works very well with everything I've cooked in it, (I have several other videos showing a variety of different rices and oatmeal), and so far nothing has stuck to the pot! I hope you enjoy it too! Thanks for watching! :)
Thanks for the review. I have been online all day today and yesterday looking at rice cookers that don't stick. Going to get this one at Target. Thanks again.
I just purchased this for a xmas gift to a friend. I'm trying to find recipes for him and I come across you video. After watching, I want to purchase one myself😂
It's a great little appliance, I love it! Here is the link to the Oster website rice cooker recipes page: www.oster.com/find-recipes#?tags=rice+cooker&sortby=newest I also make oatmeal in mine as well as other cooked cereals. The steamer tray can easily cook small portions of meat or fish while the rice cooks on the bottom of the pot. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching! :)
Glad my video was helpful. Actually my owner's manual does list the water measure markings on page 7 under the "using your rice cooker" heading. Instruction 3 states to place rice in the inner pot and add amount of water using the corresponding number marked on the inner pot. eg: 3 rice cooker cups of rice, then add water to the #3 line marking inside the pot.
Really great review. I ordered one from target, they only had three left. I've always cooked rice on the stovetop but this just looked too convenient. I rarely shopped at target before but since the CV virus thing came out I use their store pickup quite a bit.
This is my favorite rice cooker of the ones I've owned. It's great that so many stores made it possible to continue shopping safely during quarantine. :) Thanks for watching! :)
So glad it was helpful! Thanks for watching. I also have several other videos showing how I make other foods in this rice cooker, check out my homepage to see if anything looks helpful or interesting! :)
Hello, what am I missing? I finally used it today and the rice on the bottom was burnt and it was stuck. I rinsed the rice first, used one cut of rice using the plastic cup it came with and filled it to the 1 line inside. But I did use chicken broth instead of water. It seems like it cooked too long and not enough water. Thanks
It sounds like you may have needed more water. Was the rice cooked completely? Sometimes cooking the smallest quantity can be a bit tricky in that the liquid can evaporate too quickly. Cooking rice in broth is a great way to add more flavor. Next time, keep an eye on it and add a little bit of plain water to the pot if needed. If I need to add more water, I usually add it when the liquid is no longer on top of the rice. Start out adding just 1/2 cup, then add more only if needed. Hope this helps. :)
@@helpfulnatural thank you!! The middle and top was fine just a lil sticky but the bottom layer was stuck and brown. Yes I also believe more water was needed even though I followed the requirements. Thanks for responding and appreciate the video.
@@1slimldy The wider the bottom of the pot, the faster liquid will absorb or evaporate. This rice cooker is my favorite for a host of reasons but the smallest batches need to be doctored just a bit. :) Thanks for watching my video! I have a bunch of them using this cooker too! :)
I am with you on having a nonstick for a rice cooker. I did not know about the cup and I agree that you need to keep the manual. I think the model you chose is perfect. A new friend and will visit with you again. Susan
Thank you so much for subbing! :) I think a lot of people are unaware that the rice cup is not equivalent to a standard 8oz measuring cup. Thanks so much for watching! :)
I wanted to post a tip about rinsing rice. When I make over one oster cup of rice I just add water to to rice in the pot and swirl it around, usually two times. Surprisingly, if you just tip the pot and drain out the water it doesn't drip all down the bottom of the bowl as you would think it would. One less thing to wash.
I use that method too. I used a strainer in the video to make it easier than dragging my camera back and forth across the kitchen. :) Thanks for watching!
Fantastic review! You covered every point I was curious about in a very straightforward way. We bought a ceramic earthenware Japanese donabe to make rice without aluminum or nonstick coatings, but it takes 40 minutes and you have to watch it like a hawk. I'm interested in this one for the time and convenience, and your video sold me. I'll be picking one up tomorrow!
I’m a new subscriber! I have a dash 2 cup rice cooker and I love it but not big enough for some things I want to cook. I was set on buying an aroma from Walmart (not digital) for around $14.95 or something. Found your video and I was determined to get this Oster lol. I had to drive 35 minutes away to our nearest Target and I got the last one! I wanted it like yesterday lol. Thanks for sharing! You gave awesome information! Will you be making other foods like soups and 1 pot meals?
Thanks for subbing! :-) I do have a couple of other foods I want to film using this rice cooker. I do love this cooker, so far it has done a great job with everything I've made in it. So glad my video was helpful to you! Thanks for watching! :)
Your video was fantastic I just bought that rice cooker and now I feel very comfortable thank you. What is your recommendation for brown rice and other grains like farro?
I have a series of videos showing how it cooks different types of grains including brown rice. I haven't tried farro yet but will at some point. Thanks for watching! :)
thanks !! Learn a lot from your video tbh. I will def buy this! I did not know your suppose to rise your rice too this whole time I've been doing it wrong. and it def shows because when I heat my rice it bubbles and junky gets on my pots. How long does it take to make oatmeal?? I usual nuke mines in the microwave 1min 30 sec
@@sandrakelly6393 I have many videos of this rice cooker, one of them I cook brown rice. I have not had the boil over because I always wash the rice before cooking.
If the seasoning is already mixed with the rice then I would say no, washing is not necessary, as it would wash away the added seasoning. Read the back of the package for cooking instructions.
I received my Oster 6 cup today. I followed the instructions to the "T" and I did not have your same experience. I wash one cup of rice five times until the water was clear. I put one cup of brown rice into the pot, and I added one cup of water. I did use the Oster cup. The water came to a fierce, rapid boil. Within 20 minutes the water had cooked all the way down, and the rice was still very hard, it had not even softened any. So, I added water, enough to cover the rice. Again, within 20 minutes, the water cooked down. This time the rice had softened some, but still not done. What did I do? 😄 That was a total of 40 minutes. So, I added yet more water, covering the rice again, and I waited another 20 minutes. That's 60 minutes. I'm thinking maybe third time is a charm. lol By now, the rice has turned from brown to white and looks a hit mess. 😳 🤣 I gave up. I'll try again tomorrow. This time, I'll use one cup of rice and three cups of water from the start. I don't know what else to do. Advice anyone? I would appreciate the help. Thanks! 🤗
The rice cup is only for measuring the rice, not the water. The lines inside the cooking pot are for measuring the water. They are marked with numbers 1, 2, and 3. If you add 1 rice up of rice, fill with water to the number 1 line. If you add 2 cups of rice, add water to the number 2 line, etc... Brown rice does sometimes need a little more water due to the bran being intact requiring a longer cooking time.
Can you make Chinese pork buns in the steamer portion? Can you make rice and beans in the rice cooking portion? Are there any recipes or cook books for the small model?
I don't see why you couldn't make pork buns in the steamer basket. The basket is bare aluminum, not coated with nonstick so if the dough is sticky you could line it with some parchment paper. As for recipes, there are many, many here on TH-cam among other websites. I don't own any cookbooks specific to rice cookers.
Really hoping you’ll see this comment today! The little plastic cup that you tell us not to throw away, did you say that holds 8 oz of rice?? Just curious because I’m having a hard time when a recipe calls for 8 oz of rice but these things need the rice measured by cups to get a good rice to water ratio :/
As I covered in the video, the plastic rice cup does not measure 8 oz. It holds approximately 3/4 cup. I use the rice cooker cup as servings rather than exact measurements. So each cup of dry rice is about 1 serving. Remember that each cup will double in volume after its cooked.
It does not have any buttons for particular types of rice, just a lever for the cook cycle which will automatically switch over to the keep warm cycle when the cooking is finished. I have another video making brown rice in this cooker. :)
Could you please tell me the size of the lid? I can’t find it on any description. I need to replace the lid. I would love to use my rice cooker again, I understand you can find it separately online Oster but I thinking about thrifting a lid.
This was very helpful but I still have concerns over the health risks of using duraceramic cookware. I am thinking about buying the Aroma rice cooker with a stainless steel bowl, even if it takes longer to cook.
Yes however sometimes brown rice may need a little bit more water than white. I have a video showing how I make brown rice in this rice cooker if that will help. Thanks for watching! :)
You can cook any type of rice in it except instant. Instant rice is typically made by just pouring boiling water over the dry rice in a heat proof bowl, cover for 5 minutes, then stir. It will cook any other type of rice though and it does it well from my own experience. Check out my other videos showing the different rices and grains cooked in it. Thanks for watchng! :)
I have not tried soup in it but have heard it's great for that. It's been fun playing with it to see what all I can cook in it. Thanks for watching! ;)
You could try googling it to see where else it is sold. Make sure to include DuraCeramic in your description or else you'll get the older, red model where everything sticks to the pot.
The Oster cup is just for measuring the rice. Water is measured by the lines inside of the cooking pot. For ex: 1 rice cooker cup of rice, add water to the "1" line. 2 cups, water to the "2" line, etc...
my mom's bf threw away the manual and that's exactly why I am here cause I have no idea how to use use it lmaooo how did they expect me to know? I don't understand how people who throw instructions away live their lives lol thank you!
It makes it easier to blame someone else when something goes wrong. LOL! It always baffles me too when people label something as "defective" when they haven't even read the user manual. Here is the PDF for the manual: www.oster.com/on/demandware.static/-/Sites-oster-Library/default/dwcb61365a/documents/instruction-manuals/CKSTRC61K-TECO_16ESM1_FINAL.pdf Hope this helps. I am not sure if you read these comments anymore, but I would like to say that I loved this review! I am headed to the store today to grab one of these but the 1-star reviews scared me! Thank you for clearing up all the questions and concerns I had. Amazing review:)
So glad my review was helpful to you! I still use this rice cooker often and love it! Hope you enjoy using it too. Thanks for watching! :)
So good!!
Excellent review, really enjoyed and has sealed that I will be purchasing this model. Thank you
Thanks for the detailed review, especially about the measuring cup.
Lol
Fingers crossed! :) Thanks for watching!
This has been the best most comprehensive review I've seen thank you
Thanks! So glad you found it helpful. I try to be thorough in my reviews...some people find it annoying. But they're probably also the type that throw away the user manual, then crab later when something isn't working right.
Thanks for watching! :)
Very detailed information. Thank you so very much this was very helpful.❤
I am SO glad to have found this video! Wanted to make rice in my new rice cooker but I lost my instruction manual. I made rice last night by following your lead and it was perfect. I'm going to use it all of the time now! Would have never known to wash my rice well without your advice. Thanks for posting!
Btw, I have since found the manual online, but your video was so helpful because I was in a rush to cook last night. :)
So glad my video was helpful. Just remember to rinse your rice thoroughly before cooking to prevent boil over. :) Thanks for watching!
Great video! Thank you, I just bought this recently & it’s my first time using a rice cooker. I’ve been doing it old school on the stove. I appreciate the information.
Thanks! I really like this rice cooker and use it at least once or twice per week. Thanks for watching! :)
*Thank you madam for the video. I am going to Target to buy this rice cooker. I moved from India to the US last week and almost struggling to cook rice using a pressure cooker. I think this will be much easier to use.*
Yes, it's very easy to use and makes rice very quickly. Thanks for watching! :)
Fantastic video. this is my first rice cooker and i was given it without the instruction manual, so i had no idea how to use it. Thank You
Thanks! Did you get the rice cooker measuring cup with the cooker? I love this rice cooker and use it at least once per week. Thanks for watching! :)
The instructions say "do not rinse before or drain after cooking."
I guess that caused the water to be very foamy which causes the water to swell like you said :(
I turned it off but I haven't lifted the lid yet. I think there will still be water in it based on what you said. Let's see....
Yea, the rice is very soft/moist now because of the error. Do you have any tips or ways to make it work without rinsing the rice before? Or should I just buy a different rice brand
Maybe next time i will experiment with just 2 of the ricecups and see if that causes the water to swell
Just bought the new Oster today. Thanks for the video!!!
You're welcome! Glad my video was helpful. Thanks for watching! :)

literally luv u for this review because the directions on the paper didnt make sense to me as a young girl in her first apartment lol ur amazing!!!
Glad it was helpful. Have fun with your new rice cooker! It's very easy to use. Thanks for watching! :)
Wow,very honest review. Thanks
QUESTION: Can I add oil to the steamer, in addition to salt to cook the rice?
I love your review! I just bought one so exited to use it thank you for the tip on the cup

I just purchased this for a xmas gift to a friend. I'm trying to find recipes for him and I come across you video. After watching, I want to purchase one myself😂
It's a great little appliance, I love it! Here is the link to the Oster website rice cooker recipes page: www.oster.com/find-recipes#?tags=rice+cooker&sortby=newest
I also make oatmeal in mine as well as other cooked cereals. The steamer tray can easily cook small portions of meat or fish while the rice cooks on the bottom of the pot. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching! :)
Thank you for such a thorough video!! 😋 You answered EVERY question I had and I'm excited to get started!
You are so welcome!
Thanks for the detailed instructions. The Oster manual is vague and does not confirm the water level. Obvious but necessary - thanks!
AMAZING REVIEW!!! I’m so happy I bought mine today. Currently making my first batch of rice lol. I hope I did it right 😬
As long as you rinse the rice first, it should come out fine. Thanks for watching! :)
helpfulnatural yes I did and it came out amazing! Thanks
Thanks for the review
Finally somebody that breaks it down simply GOOD JOB!
So glad it was helpful! Thanks for watching. I also have several other videos showing how I make other foods in this rice cooker, check out my homepage to see if anything looks helpful or interesting! :)
Thank you for this video.
So if I only add 1 cup of rice. Do I only add 1 cup of water?
Or do I fill the water to the 1 cup marker on the rice cooker?
If you add one cup of rice using the cup that came with the rice cooker, you would then add water to the pot up to the "1" line.
Great & Helpful video!!

Good review the cup and instructions confused me, but thanks to your video I get it! Thank you

@@sandrakelly6393 I have many videos of this rice cooker, one of them I cook brown rice. I have not had the boil over because I always wash the rice before cooking.
What’s RTFM ???
RTFM.... "read the _______manual". :)
Question. I buy pre seasoned rice Zatarains brand. should that be pre washed as well? and that effect the seasoning and the taste. Thanks
If the seasoning is already mixed with the rice then I would say no, washing is not necessary, as it would wash away the added seasoning. Read the back of the package for cooking instructions.
Thank you

Hello do make brown rice the same way?
I have another video showing how I make brown rice in this cooker. Here is the link: th-cam.com/video/xW5rZJYYKsY/w-d-xo.html
I'm thinking maybe third time is a charm. lol
By now, the rice has turned from brown to white and looks a hit mess.
Great video. Hows this little cooker holding up since your review? Is the ceramic still fine?
It's holding up very well. The nonstick surface is still working great! Thanks for watching! :)
What about brown rice? Does it have a button for brown rice?
It does not have any buttons for particular types of rice, just a lever for the cook cycle which will automatically switch over to the keep warm cycle when the cooking is finished. I have another video making brown rice in this cooker. :)
Could you please tell me the size of the lid? I can’t find it on any description. I need to replace the lid. I would love to use my rice cooker again, I understand you can find it separately online Oster but I thinking about thrifting a lid.
The lid measures 6-3/4" across. If you can find the older, red model rice cooker in this video, the lid is the exact same size. :)
@@helpfulnatural I appreciate your timely response and information. You’re wonderful. 💖
@@judyhernandez3497 I hope you can find something that fits. Also be sure it has a steam vent (hole) in it so the liquid doesn't boil over. :)
This was very helpful but I still have concerns over the health risks of using duraceramic cookware. I am thinking about buying the Aroma rice cooker with a stainless steel bowl, even if it takes longer to cook.
The ceramic coating contains no PTFE or PFOA, like in Teflon.
Thank you!

Yes however sometimes brown rice may need a little bit more water than white. I have a video showing how I make brown rice in this rice cooker if that will help. Thanks for watching! :)
Washing the rice before cooking made all the difference-you were right...
the cup thing is accurate it's 160ml which is 2/3c. it's metric and based on asian typical servings.
Thank you, thank you.
You are very welcome!
Does it matter what kind of rice. Brown rice, white rice, long grain, short grain, instant rice?
You can cook any type of rice in it except instant. Instant rice is typically made by just pouring boiling water over the dry rice in a heat proof bowl, cover for 5 minutes, then stir. It will cook any other type of rice though and it does it well from my own experience. Check out my other videos showing the different rices and grains cooked in it. Thanks for watchng! :)
Is this Oster rice cooker better than the other brands like panasonic and aroma.
Panasonic is better they are like discounted Zojirushi rice cooker
If the cup didint come , what can I use ?
The plastic rice cooker cup that comes with the unit measures 3/4 c. when filled to the top.
Steamer ?
Thanks great video I had friend cooked soup with chicken and it cooked in 20 min! Have you tried soups??
I have not tried soup in it but have heard it's great for that. It's been fun playing with it to see what all I can cook in it. Thanks for watching! ;)
is target the only store that sells this cooker
You could try googling it to see where else it is sold. Make sure to include DuraCeramic in your description or else you'll get the older, red model where everything sticks to the pot.
thank you
How much water per oster cup is needed?
The Oster cup is just for measuring the rice. Water is measured by the lines inside of the cooking pot. For ex: 1 rice cooker cup of rice, add water to the "1" line. 2 cups, water to the "2" line, etc...
