I learned both to use two strands for my cast on when it makes sense and also this fabulous stretchy edge, all without having to reverse things in my mind since I too am a lefty. Thanks!

Wonderful! We are a minority. This right handed world give us some challenges.

Thank you! I am a lefty also and I cast on left-handed but since my sister taught me how to knit (she's right-handed) I knit right handed. Your video for this cast on is the one that I was able to follow......thank you so much!!!

You are welcome! You should learn to knit left handed too. Then you would never have to turn your work, just go back and forth. I have tried to knit right handed but can not maintain a consistent tension between knitting right and left handed.

Thanks so much for left handed knitting videos.

You're welcome. I think the reason so few left handed people learn to knit is that right handed teachers insist they knit right handed and for most that is almost painful.

@@justnorthofthebend9152 People said that I should learn to knit continental because you use both hands. I can knit continental but left handed continental. When right handed people fuss about it, I ask them to try it left handed because they would be using both hands. They give me some shocked and puzzled looks. They don't seem to realize hand orientation involves direction too when knitting not just hand movement. Actually my preferred knitting style is left-handed English style where you 'throw' you yarn. I love left handed youtube knitters who show us different techniques. TH-cam videos showed me how to do the left-handed Kitchener stitch.

Also explain to those right handed knitters that you knit the way we read and write, left to right, and they are the ones knitting backwards. Right handed people just can't understand. Everything is designed for their convenience. Fortunately knitting needles work either way.

I'm a fellow leftie, I knit socks toe up. I struggle picking up gusset sts, in fact picking up stitches is my worst nightmare. I also struggle with the cast on off cuff down socks. Thankyou for this video, I'm sure with patience I can master it

I understand your struggle. As for me, it is directional patterns written for right hand and multiple row stitch patterns written for flat when I want to knit in the round.

Thank you for going so slow and repeating it! I REALLY appreciate that! I do have a dumb question though, did you use two different balls of yarn to help show us, or do you need two balls of yarn in order to do this type of cast on? Thanks again!

I normally use 2 balls. Start with a slip knot, but undo the knot and don't knit it. This cast on takes 4-5 times the finished length and to keep from wasting yarn or having too little I just start with 2 or the inside and outside of a skein. If I'm using 2 colors on the project it makes a nice edge.

@@justnorthofthebend9152 I'm still totally confused by this 🤣 but hopefully if I watch it enough times I'll understand what you mean.😊

that was helpful. Hope I remember how to do it as I'm as adept with the computer as I am with knitting

Thank you. I'll have to try later as I'm so flustered right from having watched right handed videos.
I'm only ok watching right handed videos if they use terms such as "working yarn" and NOT "grab the yarn with your left hand" as I literally have to speak over the video so as not to confuse myself further whilst I try to reverse the process in my head.
I need an experienced knitting neighbor. Preferably a left handed one haha. Maybe they don't crochet& I can offer tips on that as I've crocheted for 50+ years. (Sorry, I know that last part was random)

I'm glad this was helpful. I've confronted the right handed knitting world for over 60 years. I had to teach myself because my mother didn't know how to teach a left handed child to knit. Because I'm self taught and learned crochet first I have always knitted continental. Throwing the yarn always seemed wasted motion because I could pick the yarn easily. I have a few knitting videos on my channel that may interest you. They are all left handed. As hard as I have tried I was never able to knit right handed in an even and consistent manner.
