    I just received my SW231C. As a photographer who uses a Mac I was considering this monitor, the 27 in version and the new Apple Studio display. Your videos comparing all these were more helpful than anything else on TH-cam. The performance of the SW321C is incredible. I purchased it at B&H and received a Calibrite Display Plus for free with the monitor. That was a huge savings and with calibration the monitor is extraordinary. Now I am motivated to purchase a second for a 2-display setup. THANK YOU for all that you do.

    Congratulations for the reviews, complete, simple and effective. I have a mac studio and now I have an eizo CG2420 monitor. I would like to use a bigger monitor and, excluding Eizo for the high costs, I am in doubt between SW 271 and 321. I was surprised when you described that they are not native 10 bit; compared to my current monitor would I lose something in terms of quality? Can I connect them only with USB4 cable (type C-C)? I work at a distance of about 60 cm, what would you recommend between the two (I mostly use photoshop and very little final cut).

    • @ArtIsRight
      @ArtIsRight  ปีที่แล้ว

      About 10 bit vs 8 Bit + FRC, 99% of the time and I would venture 99% of user won't notice any variation. The variation for this only show up in some very specific use case scenario, such as high end retouching where an image is zoomed in at 500-600% and with this, if one is not making 4 or 5 digits pay for the retouching job, then a true 10 bit does not justify the extra cost. Also most of these are just spec sheets talk. Yes USB C to C, 3 or 4 is fine. As far as working distance, either one would work. SW271C will get you a slightly higher PPI at 163 vs 143 on the SW321C. However, I love the coating on the SW321C much more and this model is my daily driver.

    Hi Art is there a source that definitively says the Sw321c has a 8-bit + FRC instead of 10bit? Amazon and a few review sites i've seen so far says it's a 10-bit panel?
    Were you able to get a confirmation from BenQ directly? I'm on the fence between picking up another old SW320 or one of the newer SW321C to complement my existing SW320 for my photography and retouching business. I tend to zoom in alot to pixels levels to do my editing so i'm kind of unsure if the 8-BIT + FRC will cause me to take a hit on productivity? Thanks for the video Art!

    • @ArtIsRight
      @ArtIsRight  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes that is how BenQ market the display, I can tell that it is 8 bit + FRC definitively, my relationship with BenQ makes me privy to this information. You can always give the SW321C a try first and see how it works. 99% of the time people can't tell the variation between this and the SW320. Both of these displays are my daily driver and can't say that I even notice any variation using it on the daily.

    I want a monitor for work (reading Word and PDF on a PC) and personal use ( viewing and editing photos on a Mac). Should I pick the 321C or 271C? Which one will give me resolution or scaling issues?

    • @ArtIsRight
      @ArtIsRight  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Both are good. Scaling is fine on both. Resolution is the same. Pixel per inch is the variation. 27" will be more dense 32" less dense 163 vs 140 PPI.

    Hi Art,
    Hope you are doing well.
    I wrote to you some months ago when I bought the SW270C, which I am running along my 27inch iMac (you indeed kindly answered).
    I am now considering acquiring also the SW271C, and replacing the iMac with the iMac Mini.
    I would end up with a setup just like the one you have on this video, so my question is: do you recommend the iMac Mini to run both monitors at the same time? Is it a strong enough setup, or is it better to get a stronger computer or wait for apple to issue a higher version of the mini? Thanks in advance, Gabriel : )

    • @ArtIsRight
      @ArtIsRight  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      So the Mac mini right now can run 2 - 4K displays well. But there are some limitation being the memory, you have to remember that Apple new architecture uses a unified memory, this means that it is shared between the CPU and GPU, this is great for speed but when you have a max of 16 GB, and you are running 2 displays with at least 1 being 4K, you are starting to tax the overall system and memory usage. Personally if your setup works now I would just wait for a more powerful Mac mini with hopefully a higher max RAM to come. Don't get me wrong the M1 are great but for real world pro workflow, there's still a limitation to what it can do, despite many of TH-camrs praising it constantly.

    Which of the BenQ brand monitors you present on your channel are detected by computers with an M1 processor in the RGB image transmission standard, but not in the YPbPr image transmission standard? A few days ago I returned to the seller a Mac mini with the M1 processor (MmM1), because this computer model did not like my ASUS ProArt PA279Q monitor, which was detected by the MmM1 in the YPbPr image transmission standard - in the monitor menu I had completely blocked the option to select sRGB and RGB Adobe modes, and the screen showed jagged fonts with a border effect creating a shadow effect.

    • @ArtIsRight
      @ArtIsRight  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      On M1 all output are YUV, can't change that, hacking does not really work. All BenQ displays including the Proline SW and PD does the conversion from YUV to RGB inflight so that is not an issue.

    • @mkamelg
      @mkamelg 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ArtIsRight Thanks for the very quick reply. It's true that "hacking does not really work". I tried hacking, and everything worked fine until the next computer restart, or in an extreme case until the computer wakes up from sleep.

    • @ArtIsRight
      @ArtIsRight  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well it does not work if every thing works until you do something to the system. Getting a display that do inflight translation would be best in this case.

    Thanks ! Question about the SW271C ppi when connected to a Mac (Mac Studio M1). People claim that this PPI is in the "bad zone" and using the scaling option of the OS will be more ressource intensive. I would like to have a clarification please.

    • @ArtIsRight
      @ArtIsRight  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah that is a misinformation. I'm working on a video that will talk about that. As far as being reproduces intensive I have a video that talks about this already. They are in this playlist th-cam.com/play/PLjlr8rlxl_q65mOyASWU2naUlPCr78nxi.html
      Also this video will give you the fundamentals as well th-cam.com/video/8qHYsJDSKWM/w-d-xo.html
      Like I said I am working on a video that talks about this. But my playlist above will tell you all that you need to know. And that scaling in macOS is fine especially with "M" series chip.

    • @marting974
      @marting974 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ArtIsRight Thanks, I watched your linked videos and it helps. But tbh I still have some confusion about the choice of PPI for a Mac. I went with the sw270c and I have an aliasing like effect on text and small details displayed on screen. Now I need a second screen, I truly love benQ quality and my main idea is to get a sw271c as primary and the sw270c as second monitor for color grading. I'm just confused about the sw271c PPi not being in the Mac OS optimal zone. Obviously I would use the 4k with some scaling, not native resolution, to get better size of the UI. (I'm currently on Mac Studio.). best.

    • @ArtIsRight

      "I'm just confused about the sw271c PPi not being in the Mac OS optimal zone. Obviously I would use the 4k with some scaling, not native resolution, to get better size of the UI."
      Talk about optimal zone, you found out that 109 ppi in the SW270C shows the anti aliasing effect that you don't like either, yet based on many TH-cam "experts" that is totally with in the "optimal zone." Truth is the OS does not care about the PPI what so ever. Retina is roughly defined as 200 PPI or higher and in general when scale will produced crisper graphics and texts. It is a personal preference really if you are ok with the "look" 4K scaling or not. GPU is not an issue. So it all comes down to the "look." I would give 4K a go and see where that takes you.

    So there is no any EyeCare functions? Like flicker free, blue light, some kind of "reading mode"? I also found from some reviews, that it has some kind of PWM and flickers at different levels of brightness, what may tire your eyes pretty quickly. Is it true?

    • @ArtIsRight
      @ArtIsRight  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      There's no eyecare, however, in my extensive testing I have not run into an issue where either of these models flicker. Also I am unaware of PWM going on in these displays.

    sir, I brought benq sw240 as affordable monitor 24.1 inch which is perfectly enough for me to see display view on this monitor. And I unable to connect my laptop (non apple) to monitor with usb c to display port. I figured out that my laptop usb c port is for data connection and not for display output. I have tried usb b (monitor) to usb A ( laptop) but it's not showing display yet. What shall I do now? I do have usb c to display port cable! I tried it on usb a to usb c adapter converter n The error message said no signal detected also no cable connection. Can you please help me to solve this solution to get laptop connect to benq sw240??

      USB cable other than C with Display Port overlay does not carry display signal. You have to check and see what output your computer has that can output display signal, USB of any type based on what you are telling me is not the answer. Without knowing if you have a desktop or laptop, make and model not much I can do to hep especially in the PC world where hardware are all over the place.

    Any recommendations for a colorist? I see these only have a contrast ratio of 1000:1. Netflix recommends 2000:1 for SDR content. Is there a monitor out there that will suffice? I almost bought the PD3200U as well as the LG CX OLED. What do you recommend for a colorist who makes content for theaters, festivals and TH-cam?

    • @ArtIsRight
      @ArtIsRight  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I would not be too over concern about the TH-cam spec. For theater I would use BT 1886 and DCIP3 and the same goes for festival as well. If you are doing contact for Netflix then you would get the appropriate display for that. But if you are not any of these displays will do just fine.

      Only the i1Display Pro Plus has that option. You can set it to 2.4 it will come close but any time you get a gamma to a fixed value it is just that a linear fixed value. BT1886 is a logarithmic value that changes as the curve moves

    Just bought the SW321C and have uploaded the latest Palette master Calibration software. I have used a X-Rite i1 Display Pro to calibrate this new monitor to the specifications that you have recommended in your instructional video and saved the profile etc. However everytime the monitor is switched off for the day the monitor looses the saved profile. The next time that the monitor is switched on its glaringly not in calibration. I use the term glaringly because the monitor is turned on at its highest brightness level. I have recalibrated this new monitor at least 8 times during the week and each time the monitor is switched of it looses the saved calibration. Really disappointed, I also run a second monitor that is an Eiso that I have been using for a few years and has its own calibration software that doesn't give me any problems. Anyone got ideas whats wrong ?

I have rebooted my pc and switched on both monitors but the Benq that is nominated as the main monitor starts up but then goes black, If I switch the benq it off the main menu status screen shows up on my second eizo monitor. ie it looks like the Benq monitor looses the signal and is blank for some weird reason. No mater what I do I cant get the Benq monitor to show the main menus startup screen etc. I have now deleted all the Palette master software from my PC and rebooted and the only way I can get the Benq to show up the main start up screen is by manually making adjustments to the controls on the monitor. if I try to adjust the screen to read a colour profile the screen turns blank. Everything can only be read on my second monitor. I have checked all the setting and they are set correctly numbering 1 and 2 on my monitor selection etc This means I can only use the benq monitor as my primary screen without it being specifically calibrated.
