I had a similar journey I got c's in my anatomy and physiology. I thought nursing schools would turn me down because there's people with straight A's. but life works in mysterious ways and I have almost two months to finish my BSN.

I can totally relate to your journey towards becoming a nurse. I ended up having to repeat several classes and I transferred schools. I had taken the TEAS test 3x and couldn't pass it for dear life. I mean at some point I truly felt defeated. But I knew that this is what I wanted and I never gave up on it. After all is said and done, I'm now a second semester nursing student and on track to get my BSN. So, anything is possible. Love your TH-cam channel and can't wait to see more from you! Good luck on your third semester! ✨

I love this video. I did ap1 and failed. I redid it and got a B! I'm redoing ap2 as well, right now. This made me so happy, because there's no one out there, sharing their failures. I'll be applying this summer for nursing school. And it warms my heart to know that, they're forgiving towards people, who retake classes! thank u so much for this video!

I feel the exact same! I made a C in A&P 1 but I got a B in A&P 2 then a B in Chemistry so like you said, if you have the motivation and desire to get where you want to go then you can do it! So proud of you for not giving up because sad to say, we live in a society where some people would rather tear you down instead of helping you. Bless of luck with everything this year !

i really, really loved this video. i am based in California and the competition here is STEEP! When i first started back at college after a year off, i had my mind set on nursing. Every student i came across who asked me what my major was had the same "O.O Yikes.." face. I took all of my general education courses first and left my core biology classes for my last year. When i entered my first A&P semester, the RN counselor i met with actually made me CRY. He asked me, "so, what are you going to do when this doesn't work? The odds are not with you". I came home that day completely defeated and after that night i decided to use that as motivation to prove to my counselor and myself that i CAN make the cut. Here i am a year later, a 3.8 GPA and STRAIGHT A'S through BOTH of my A&P classes AND my microbiology class. This is my first application cycle, i am applying to three schools. I will not give up, i put myself through CNA school and worked 50 hours on top of my core biology classes. Do not give up on your dreams. Oh, and as for my counselor? I graduated in December and met with him this last wednesday to go over my RN application. After looking at my transcript, he gave me a big hug, kissed me on the head and said, " Now let's make you a NURSE!".

      The Nurse Nook,
Thank you for your video! My A&P professor also tried to discourage me. She told me I would have to take A&P over. I made an B in her class. The program I am applying to, An A is needed in A&P 1 or 2. with passing the Hesi Exam. She also told me, Not everyone who pass A&P get accepted into the nursing program. I should change my career choice so I want be wasting time away from my Husband and Son. Nursing school is so hard, that many students who are married ends up in divorce. As per her and I conversation, I started sobbing so hard, that I decided to take A&P 2 again for the summer and registered it again for fall just in case, I needed to take it again and dont pass it.

omg this video is LIFE!!! thanks for this totally uplifted me. Had a tough time last semester. It was my own fault, I took on 13 units with an 8 month old..breastfeeding and all and on top of that like 3 weeks before finals my grandma passed...I got a D in Anatomy and cried myself to sleep for a good week telling myself ill never get into nursing school. Im motivated and won't take no for an answer. Im fortunate that Im surrounded by 8 nursing programs within a 25 mile radius from all directions ADN AND BSN...I'm going to apply to all when the time comes and leave it in Gods hands. Thanks for your honesty you truly changed my perspective on my journey. and congrats on your new job!!

I just applied to nursing school, in June. I have been out of college for 8 years & I am returning this fall. I just received a letter saying I have passed the first stage and need to take my HESIA2 exam, in 20 days. I am totally panicking. I didn't think I would be taking the Hesi so soon. I am taking one last prerequisite this fall semester. My college only takes new students twice a year and to get into the program for 2018, I need to test high enough to get points for ranking or I may have to wait another year. I made an A in A&P I. I am taking A&P II this fall. I have an almost 4.0 GPA so far. I'm working my butt off. All I do is study while in school (while also working a part-time grocery store job) because this means everything to me. The only reason I make such high grades is because I dedicate almost all of my time to school. People laugh at me for never having fun, but I don't care. The one thing about being a nurse is you can't study to have compassion. I'm so tender-hearted and loving, that I even hate it when insects get killed (lol)! I want to be there for those in their worse time-being sick in the hospital. That's what drives me to work and study so hard because I know that my goal will come in time. I believe that anyone that truly wants to be a nurse and has the passion will make it! You're awesome! Thanks for your tips and advice.

I can't believe I just saw this video! I did my pre reqs and it took me two years instead of a year and half because I couldn't get into a class because it was all filled. I was always an A-B student in high school and that continued into college until I got that C in human anatomy 1. I didn't bother retaking because i figured one c is okay. My program was you had to get a 3.0 gpa or higher.but honestly it was 3.8 or higher that they took you.also my school has two campus three hours apart from each other. Anyways I took human anatomy 2 and got a B.decided to apply the second year and did not get in. So I am retaking human anatomy 1 and chemistry to get an A.im doing well in chemistry but anatomy is still hard.i however decided to apply in the fall time towards our second campus located three hours away and got in instead of wasting time here where it was more competive.i will still graduate from the same university just at a differ campus far from home.the exact opposite of you!
But seriously being the first generation I had no one tell me that A matter in nursing and know the competiveness of your programs, or knowing you won't graduate within four years like they always tell you! I also took a minor to try to maintain that fulltime credit because of financial aid. Anyways I have two electves that are D and passing,I failed my algebra class with a D but is still passing and I don't have to retake it.im upset with my math grade the most because I used to do great. However allmy sciences classes were all still B and A. Anyways starting nursing school I will push myself because I don't want to be in that same predicament.

I can relate to this on so many levels! 😩 at my school, in order to get into the program you needed to have all straight A's and A+'s. So I had to upgrade my bio 12 because in high school I got a B. I retook it and got a B+ and finally after a third time I scraped an A. But I spent so much time focussing on bio 12 because that was the class most important for my entry that I got a C+ in AP1. But after all my long nights of studying and break downs, I got accepted into the program so now I start this September 😊

I just wanted to let you know that this video was so incredibly encouraging to me. I've recently been super discouraged about my grades because last year (my first year of college) I decided to treat college classes as I did in high school, which ultimately resulted in embarrassing and unnecessarily bad grades. This past year I have worked really hard and managed to get my grades up a little bit, but still, I have a lot more prerequisites to take and a lot of bad grades to make up for. Your video really encouraged me to keep pushing, and reminded me that grades don't have to be perfect in order to get accepted into nursing school, so thank you!

Kayla Moore I wanted to do the concurrent program, I’m scared. I don’t know if I should get my BSN the traditional way, bu doing 2 years at community college and 2 years at a university..OR getting my ASN-BSN.. I just don’t want to be in school for too long.

I completely feel you. I'm a pre-nursing major at FSU and I just finished my freshman year. I graduated high school with a 4.2 and my SATs were 2100. I thought studying came naturally to me. But I got a C, D, and F in my first semester, but I retook the classes and did better my second semester. FSU's nursing program is like B or above in all undergrad courses, so I was screwed. I'm looking at UCF as well as one of my schools and I really hope I get into their traditional, if not their concurrent programs!!

I'm there. Literally there. I've mended A&P as much as I can and I'm still less than competitive. I've been waitlisted so many times. I won't give up applying or trying though! The thing that's keeping me going right now is this: "My patients are counting on me."

Why do teachers/ people tell students to change their major when they don’t do well?? I mean they really try to discourage students so badly! I’ve never understood that. I love all of your videos. I love that you post the good, the bad, and the ugly. Thank you for your encouragement!

So I just finished my junior year of highschool and like you, I get decent grades without really working too hard. So I feel that because Of my worth ethic now, I won't be good enough for nursing school. But watching this video has given me the motivation and confidence boost I desperately needed. I'm the kind of gal that keeps low expectations for myself and often gives up too easily if I feel that I won't accomplish my goal. But this video helps a lot like you don't even know XD

I can totally relate to your experience. I didn't have the best grades as a Bio major and the pre-health professions advisor strongly urged me to not to apply to nursing programs and pharmacy programs. However, I am retaking some of the courses and will soon be applying to nursing school. Thanks for your motivational talk! I appreciate it.

Thank you for sharing your story!! I'm feeling discouraged about my goals and everything since my high school education didn't provide the best for me. I had to start from the bottom when I went to college to prep me for the healthcare field. I barely passed my courses but I was proud of my grades despite the fact I got D's and C's in anatomy. I didn't get accepted into PN last year and i'm currently in another healthcare program. I applied again for this coming fall but I didn't do so good on my admissions test again this year :( I did better than last year but I feel like it's not enough because it's based on percentiles. If it's meant to happen It'll happen if I work even harder. I'll keep trying. Thank you for posting videos of your journey!

I'm really glad I stumbled upon your channel. I'm going through a lot of doubt in my mind as well as my family doubting me. I question myself s lot b/c everyone says it's super hard and they don't think I can do it. They say I'm really small I'm not gonna be able to lift patients but inside I want this, I think if I focus I can do this! I just want an idea of how it is and I want advice and encouragement and I really feel like God is prepping me in his own way. Cuz I actually found out my aunt is a nurse so, I'm going to meet w/ her tomorrow! Like I really wanna reach graduation and say I did it and show everyone!

    • @TheNurseNook
      @TheNurseNook  7 ปีที่แล้ว

Nursing school is definitely a challenge but it's nothing impossible! If you have the passion for it it'll be easier than you think. Don't be discouraged by people doubting you, use it as motivation to make it through. There is no such thing as being too small to be a nurse! I have classmates that are barely 5 feet tall and are doing just fine, there are always people around to help you as well as new lift technology they are always developing to help take the strain off of nurses and CNA's when moving patients. You seem like you have such a passion for the field and it would be a shame to not have a person like you in the field. Believe in yourself!

I know this is a comment on an old video BUT this is just what I needed. I changed my major from biology to nursing this summer and my grades from those past classes were garbage but I picked it up when I switched majors. My pre-nursing advisor, that I was meeting for the first time, told me that because of my GPA, nursing wasn't a career path that she thought I could succeed in. I literally felt like the love of my life dumped me and my world was crumbling. Anyway, I didn't give up and I still know I will be a nurse. Watching this was the motivation I needed because I felt I could really relate (:

Thanks for sharing your story. I am thinking about nursing school but it’s really discouraging. There are 4 ADN programs within an hour of where I live. Sounds promising, but they each get hundreds of applicants each year and only have about 40 slots. Moving is not really an option for me, I own a home and my parents are elderly and need frequent help. Feeling discouraged but I’m still researching my options!
