'14 episodes of bliss, and a lifetime of withdrawal.' The desire for more never truly goes away. Early probably survived, if he had a way to call his ship to him, but because the show ended, he'll never get to return.
They showed he was still alive at the end so he was planned as a regular villain like Badger, Patience, and Niska(sp?), but Mal should disable that ship right away. It's too shiny to let go, could sell it at the next planet they visit.
Been over 20 years and still the best depiction of a psychic trying to decide what really said. BTW, did you notice one voice in her head when she woke up was Jubal Early's
You're welcome for the recommendation. Now you're just another jaded browncoat like the rest of us. Serenity is up next to give the series some closure, and don't forget your box of tissues.
The cast and crew did learn that the show was being canceled before they completed shooting, but I don't think they knew which of the episodes would be the last one aired. Fox had broadcast the episodes out of order and, while 14 episodes had been completed, only 11 of them were broadcast before the show was replaced. Fans had to wait until the show was released on DVD before seeing all 14 episodes, and before seeing them in the order that the creators had intended.
My favourite part about the episode is that we start out with everyone questioning whether Simon and River should stay on the ship, and it ends with everyone working to keep her safe from the bounty hunter. At least that's how it seems, until you think about it a little. Actually, it's River who's keeping everyone safe from the bounty hunter. Or that was her plan until Simon screwed it up! Thankfully, River's plan works and Mal welcomes her back aboard, and all questions our crew have about her being a risk to the ship are gone. That's the other great thing about this show. We all feel Kaylee's fear when she tells the crew about how River shot those men. We all understand that Mal has a tough decision to make. And we all feel the same fear when Early threatens Kaylee. He's a threat to _our crew,_ and we don't want River to leave _our ship._ That's the magic of this show, it makes us fall in love with our crew, and our ship. Makes us feel like they're a family, and we're also a part of that too. And that's what connects us all, the love for our crew and our ship. Just one more mission to go. I know you'll make it through, and then that love for our crew and our ship will forever be a part of you too.
Answer the questions I can without spoilers. This was not supposed to be the last episode of the season They were cancelled before even a full season. Everything else, well, after the movie... :)
Regarding Jubal Early, in my opinion the creepiest villain of the series, very well played by the actor: the character was based in part on a real historical character. The original Jubal Early was a Confederate General in the American Civil War, and is supposedly one of Nathan Fillion's ancestors. He was partly deaf in one ear, which they used here, it's why he misheard a couple things, like "Alliance" being heard as "a lion" - they do sound similar. After the War, his writings showed him to clearly be a white supremacist, as many were during that time, so the casting of this actor for the part is nicely ironic. But this character is warped in a whole different way... He's very smart, but twisted. However, River is smarter and even more twisty. :) I love how Mal is usually the one to give orders and expect to be obeyed, without question, trusting in his plan. In this one, we see Mal realize that River has a plan, and he follows her orders, trusting her. ❤️
Yep, the movie was largely a result of us fans pushing and pushing (and Joss and the crew of course). Pleased to welcome you to the Browncoats. You will love the movie, but do be prepared with tissues, if only because you will be sad it is all over and there is no more Firefly to watch.
Hello Inna!😊 No, they had no idea this would be the final episode. Some of the episodes did not even air of Fox, because it was canceled. I'm looking forward to you reacting to the film "Serenity" (2005), which tries to tie up this series. Great reactions to the final Firefly episode, Inna!!!!🎬👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
The book "Big Damn Hero" fills in some back story. It helped me deal with the end. I hear there are more books. I would ask you to read them to me, but copyright and whatnot. Contact the publisher, you have a great voice...
Welcome fellow Browncoat. We all are sad that Firefly didn't get to be what it deserved to be. I guess we have to be happy it was there at all. But I understand what you mean. I wish there had been lots more.
Lady Inna, you are a great Browncoat. Love your reaction. You will love the movie but have tissues close. I will not say more because I don't wish to tell any spoilers.
They were told the show was cancelled at the wrap for "The Message" I think. It is all a sad story. The legacy lives on in music written about this story...Name another tv show that has an entire category of music about it. Probably at least two, can't think of them right now.
There was one bit of closure in this episode. In the first episode, Mal had said that nobody was allowed aboard Serenity without his permission. But River had never gotten his expressed permission...until now.
If you miss the opening theme, there is a gospel version you can listen to any time. Led by Jesse L Martin and some other folks you might know. Just type Firefly Gospel and it comes up, even though the name of the song is The Ballad of Serenity. Also check out other Letter Carrier Productions songs. And Bedlam Bards. Just go live life and be beautiful, the end of this show makes me so emotional I need to shut up.
Yes, but "The Message" was also the last episode produced, so it's not like they had the opportunity to make plot adjustments based on the cancellation.
15:07 He means the shepherd was not born a shepherd. Shepherd Book did other jobs before, jobs that gave him insights on criminal activities and the inner working of the government. Being a shepherd is a recent job for him. 15:59 Inara, with her training as a companion, was able to understand the inner thought of Jubal Early, the bounty hunter. Jubal did not like it at all. By experience, when someone is able to read you like an open book, it is really unnerving. I do not agree with the slap, but I certainly understand it.
First time through, done. Next time is perhaps even better. This is perhaps the most popular incomplete show ever! Take care, Inna. And brace yourself, the movie isn't exactly a nice, smooth ride. But even so, I'm so glad they made it.
well...there are people who are still trying to bring this show back...though as what no one has any idea...that is as a reboot? or a continuation? or whatever... but Nathan Filion said he would drop whatever he is dong to come back to Firefly! Don't know what the odds of them bringing it back are...but they are serious about trying! So, keep your fingers crossed!
They did know it was the last episode. They found out during "The Message" episode. Fox could have had the greatest show ever on their hands and blew it big time. They bungled utterly with how they screened at the wrong time and in the wrong order and failed to promote the show. A breath-taking exhibition of sheer incompetence in their field.
they found out during shooting _the message_ because that was the last episode shot. they did not know while shooting _objects in space_ that it would end up being the last one.
@@TheRealRedAce they weren't intended to be, but no one wanted the show to end with a funeral scene, so they did some editing. they actually made a notable mistake. in _the message_ jayne calls river a "mind-reading genius", but in _objects in space_ jayne is genuinely surprised by the idea that river might be a mind reader. this only makes sense if _the message_ occurs later.
"Objects in Space": River hears all, 24/7. A bounty hunter "comes down the chimney." You have not only joined the Browncoat army, but the League of Blue "Firefly" fans. On to "Serenity: The Movie"! Seasonal note: Whenever a TH-cam falls in love with "Firefly," a Fox TV executive falls off the Nakatomi Plaza building.;)
They found out that the show was being canceled while they were filming The Message. When you get to the 3rd "Leaf on the Wind" you'll be a true Browncoat, I'll be internally chanting, "One of us, one of us, we accept her, one of us!" as I watch along.
Bro, why are we like this? Doesn't matter. On Earth That Was people fought over petty things. Browncoats know that love will keep you in the air when you ought to run aground.
recommendation for any Firefly fan - first you have comics, graphic novels, and even essay books to get more lore, and a specific interview with Joss Whedon where 1 piece of information comes out......second Battlestar Galictica (from the 2000's not the orginal series) and The Expanse will likely fill some of the gaps not having the crew of Serenity after you watch the movie Serenity....I personally put Battlestar ahead of Expanse but other prefer Expanse...so I recommend considering both of those shows after the movie Serenity
I agree with you but think what could have been. Have you see the Mandalorian? Season 1 was awesome -on par with Firefly. Season 2 was good. Don't get me wrong, it was very good, but compared to season 1... Season 3 just plain sucked. If Firefly continued there is no guarantee it wouldn't be the same. Yeah, cold comfort. Best I got though.
"Can I mop your brow? I am at the ready with the fearsome brow mop!"
That's the single-most Wash thing, that Wash ever said!
😂
"Well...here I am."
The despairing cry of every Browncoat, after finishing the series.
Well, we are here. My favorite episode for so many reasons. Jubal Early's dialogue and darkly foreboding presence are just phenomenal ♥

Think of this... Somewhere... Out there... is a parallel universe with seven full seasons of Firefly and three movies. How do we tap into that?
There was one bit of closure in this episode. In the first episode, Mal had said that nobody was allowed aboard Serenity without his permission. But River had never gotten his expressed permission...until now.
This wasn't one of River's dreams but the movie Serenity is.

Jubal is a great bad guy, would love to have seen his return.
He was an excellent villain, made me uncomfortable the whole time
@InnaSoloTV they had to make him so bad so we wouldn't care he was pushed into space.
And then it ended
