Do all djembe’s take their own amount of rope to be tuned? For say if they were all at the same pitch would they have different amounts of rope used in tuning?

Thanks for the tutorial. Is there a way of knowing where your skins limit is? I don't want to bust my head; but the tighter I go the better it sounds. I know temp is a big factor. It's winter in colorado here, so obviously I'll take a few knots out before I leave my drum in the car on a hot summer day.

The head will stop getting higher pitched when it's reaching its limit. Heads don't usually break when tuning, but more often when they're exposed to changes in humidity. Get it to the point where there isn't much give in the head when pressed. The sound should be dry.
