I just LOVE Gloria, and Mt. Carmel does a fine job. I was in the El Cajon Valley H.S. band in the late 50s, and played under Benton Minor. We played Gloria at the 1958 Long Beach All Western Band Review, where we won the second of our three consecutive Sweepstakes awards. Thanks Mt. Carmel for the stroll down memory lane!

Mt. Carmel has won national level competitions in parade. They're obviously doing something right. To me, they have the liveliest sound of the Poway district bands, and I have seen all of them perform with the exception of Westview

I think that Mt.Carmel and Diamond Bar were the most exciting musically.

Is there a Cymbal crash missing right before the 1st strain ? I imagine they omitted it to allow the other notes to really resonate?

There are bigger bands than Mt. Carmel but I can't think of one any better. You guys are ALWAYS impressive.

SpeedyNeutrino172 Richard, Mt. Carmel's band is actually a lot bigger than this but for street competitions, they normally march a block of 90 or 99. Same thing applies to other bands that use a block for street performances, like Rancho Bernardo, El Dorado, Cypress, Kennedy, Diamond Bar and many others. Arcadia HS is the exception here, where they march all their students since they host the event and do not compete. For field competitions, bands will typically use most of their students.

Incidentally I noticed a video "Band Prank" and it reminded me of the time about ten of us picked up our director's Volkswagen beetle and put it between two trees with about two inches to spare on each end. He was nonplussed, to say the least....we finally relented and moved it for him after about ten minutes. We really liked him, seriously.

this band would be creamated in NorCal, but we'd clap nicely and hope they would improve the following year... music? old and overdone.

I've seen ONE band from up north who could be a competitor...Golden Valley High Marching Band...but overall, I think these bands in socal are fantastic. I'm an old bandsman from Florida, btw.

Golden Valley marched in this competition....They scored 89.25 and were in last place for the class. Even if Golden Valley had a bad day and/or the judging styles are different, making a claim that Mt. Carmel would be "creamated" (sic) is just plain wrong.

As of 2020, I feel that only Benicia has a chance at beating Mt. Carmel. If they (Mt. Carmel) went to a Nor Cal competition they'd probably drop kick everyone. SoCal bands are 5 times better then NorCal. No offense by the way, just NorCal is not as good as SoCal, they are more show of types and have less super competitive marching bands while SoCal was monsters like Diamond Bar who scored a 97 not to long ago. NorCal couldn't compete with SoCal.
