Excellent Video. I am currently working through the videos for the GPSMAP 67 I bought from you so, these additional videos, are really helpful 👍🏼 Having a great time with it so far and highly recommended, as a place to buy any GPS unit
Thanks for buying the unit from us and glad to hear the training videos in the online resource are helping, we are adding some more to that training resource for the 67 in the coming weeks.
@@ukgpstraining That’s excellent news 👍🏻 On a separate subject, I’m using your OS planner (excellent tool) to actually plan the routes as I cannot get a Basecamp connection on either Mac or PC 🤷🏼♂️ Bizarre! Am I right to think that, the only way to take advantage, of the NP routable planning, is on the unit itself? 👍🏻
Great GPS. Got mine a few weeks ago from yourselves. Your service is 2nd to none. Free Birdseye mapping with this device plus dual band GPS with Talkytoaster maps make it a very powerful device.
@@ukgpstraining Brilliant news. I think it might open up more content opportunities for you and who knows, you might sell more GPS units. Basecamp is also compatible with the TT DEM maps which are also routeable 👍
I decided to go with Montana 700. replaceable battery is a must for me. also went with mini2 as a dedicated satellite device. having 2 in 1 is kinda risky. if 1 dies so does the other in it.
I also found out recently the full birdseye view select for the whole of GB is free and available to download on basecamp. Does this include the 1:25k maps at all?
Sadly there is no free download for 1:25k maps, but you can plan on 1:25k maps and overlay it on whatever map set you have. this video may help - gpstraining.co.uk/blogs/reviews/do-you-need-os-maps-on-a-garmin-gps-in-the-uk-on-an-outdoor-gps-unit
Here is a more detail look at the map sets I had on the GPS on the 'walk and talk', as you will see I had 1:25k maps on - th-cam.com/video/s5_3FboxF9M/w-d-xo.html Are yours more pixelated than what I al seeing on our unit?
Hi, I bought the GPSMAP 66sr. But I'm a bit lost.. Can it do a turn by turn? I've tried creating a route and a track from a gpx file. But it's not announcing the turns. My Instinct 2 does this, so I was hoping the GPSMAP does the same :)
Thanks for your question. If you bought your GPS from us please do email our tech support team with your GPST ref number. They can log onto your computer and take you through this subject. Tech support email address is on the front of the 'Quick Start' guide you will have received from ourselves.
That unit has topoactive built in so you need to configure maps and make sure it is turned on so you can get turn by turn. It works if you use another mapping overlay at the same time as long as topoactive is turned on
Hey mate been looking at getting the 66sr, the way you have it set up do you need any subscriptions or have you needed to buy anything, would I buy one and already have birdseye and possibly topo maps cheers
Terminlogy is confusing at Garmin. Routes, tracks, courses, activities, collections. As I’ve learned, a track is (should be) what you get after you’ve recorded your own walk: a trail of (many) breadcrums. A route is something that’s already on your device and it is (should be) the line you need to follow. However, since the route is a collection of waypoints limited to 250, you’re going to get in trouble there if you pluck it off some website… so you’ll need it on your device as a track. But that basically messes up the meaning, since a track *should be* something you get *after* your walk, and not something you follow. Hmm. ;). And don’t get me started about courses, which makes things even more complicated. Usually, a route converted to a track is a very rough outline (lots of straight lines between two waypoints). So do take a close look before you actually start using it… it can be daunting (and even dangerous) to follow those straight lines, thinking it should be your path.
Many thanks for your comments regarding the different forms of navigating with a GPS. If you look at more 'walk and talk' videos you will see I use different forms of navigation in different circumstances - 1. Route - as you get an audible beep at a waypoint, great for day walks where I have planned on a walk and it is going to be a more 'intense' navigational experience, where you are jumping from one path to the other. 2. Track/ course - frankly the same thing (depending on how you transfer onto your GPS), but great for long distance trails etc (as in this video), where frankly I have very little chance to get lost, but if I do make an incorrect turning it notifies me as being 'off course'. therefore a very passive, unobtrusive navigational experience. Just to add more thoughts into your already 'confusing terminology' by Garmin.
Cracking video, very educational and entertaining at the same time - thank you very much.

@@ukgpstraining Yup, that matches up with mine. It seems I was far more zoomed in than I needed to be.

It is to do with your mapping not the device. On mine I have Garmin topoactive mapping which allows 'turn by turn' prompts
