I hope it doesn't have the same bugs as the original 66s. If you guys at Garmin have fixed the glitches this could be a very promising handheld for backcountry
I know what multi band is or actually multi frequency but you didn’t explain what it is or how it works to improve accuracy. You also didn’t explain that it started as military technology and is a new feature in the new GPS satellites. Skip the fluff and get technical.
Thank you for your question. No, in order to get parcel information on the GPSMAP 66st, you would need to purchase the optional HuntView Plus Maps for the area you wish to have that information. As far as your second question, yes you can mark a waypoint then enter in the Lat and Long. The marked waypoint will then appear on the map. Links to both pages with more information are below. Considering the 66sr. [1] What is the difference between Topo Active and Topo US 24k (USGS) map data? [2] What are the pros and cons of each? [3] For what reasons might it become necessary or desirable to add the 24k data card to a device that comes preloaded with Topo Active? Thanks.
Thank you for your question. TopoActive covers a much larger area, but would be less detailed than Topo 24k regarding contour lines. Both are routable, but TopoActive does not provide turn-by-turn routing in any of the automotive routing profiles. Topo 24k will auto-route with automotive profiles. With all of that said, customers who want even more detail than TopoActive would choose to step up to the Topo 24k mapping. The following link has more information on the TopoActive mapping, and our Product Support Team is always willing to assist at 800-800-1020 or support.garmin.com. I hope this helps. support.garmin.com/en-US/?faq=IgBPZ9DlHE5zaIWuSuwCS8&searchQuery=topoactive%20detail
I bought 66sr and used it for meausring area of the field. There is a huge problem with this function in this gps receiver. I need to use my old Garmin receiver for measuring area of the field. Old receiver calculate area of the field perfectly.
Sorry to hear that you are having issues with your GPSMAP 66sr. Please reach out to our Product Support team at 800-800-1020 or support.garmin.com. They will be happy to assist.
@@GarminRetailTraining Thank You. I think It is caused by bug in firmware. I send an information about it to our support and I am waiting for information now. GPSMap 66sr registraces tracks perfectly but can't calculate area of the field correctly. My Old Garmin receiver calculates area of the field correctly at the same time.
Thank you for your question. Yes, compared to the GPSMAP 66st, the GPSMAP 66sr has a rechargeable, internal lithium-ion battery. It also has TopoActive maps with auto-routing, compared to the non-routable Topo 100k maps in the 66st. Lastly, the GPSMAP 66sr has multi-band frequency support that the GPSMAP 66st does not have. Multi-band provides better accuracy and more consistent track logs in challenging environments. I hope this helps.
Thank you for your question. Yes, the GPSMAP 66sr supports MGRS as well as many other available position formats. Below is a link showing all of the supported position formats. I hope this helps. Postion Formats Link - support.garmin.com/en-US/?faq=lvWzTYlPsx6BvUDTyKfqC8
What happens when internal battery starts failing or dies completely...now it is a throw away I have had a garmin 2, 3 ,4 and 5 for mor than 10 years You will never get 10 years out of a 66sr or I. But the ST has a chance since it uses batteries users can replace
That is a great question. The GPSMAP 66sr is a good solution for the paragliding community. Not only is it rugged, but it has BirdsEye direct for imagery, as well as high detail mapping. You may want to also consider the GPSMAP66i. Those who are pursuing these kind of activities may find themselves in areas where two-way communication and tracking are very important and the inReach technology in the GPSMAP 66i would deliver those features as well. Feel free to check out both models at the following link.....buy.garmin.com/en-US/US/p/623975. I hope this helps.
Thank you for your question. Due to its Wi-Fi connectivity, the GPSMAP 66sr has BirdsEye Direct. BirdsEye Direct is a preloaded service with no annual service fee for BirdsEye Satellite Imagery. Do you need to pay monthly/yearly for a subscription/membership? If I want to use this for GPS navigation I don't need to pay, but I need to text or use the SOS, I do need to pay in advance?
Thank you for your question. You are correct. There is no fees or membership for using GPS navigation. You would need a subscription to use the two-way messaging and interactive SOS features. The following link has more information on the features and pricing of the subscription plans. I hope this helps. discover.garmin.com/en-US/inreach/personal/
Thank you for your question. For our customers that purchase the GPSMAP 66sr in Europe, it will include the Europe maps. For our U.S. customers, it will include U.S. maps. "Everything you need to know"...hardly! That was just a sales pitch and no "how to" whatsoever. And the manual is completely useless for anything but how to turn the thing on or put on the carabiner. You really need to work with consumers rather than assuming they know everything your programmers know. How utterly ridiculous.
NOT impressed at all. Just used in a winter presidential range traverse day hike in White mountains NH. Not accurate and slow to update in cold. The crap is too expensive...a waste
Got a Garmin GPSMAP 66sr. First time Garmin user of any kind. Astonished how bad and slow UI/UX is, astonished about lame features included in this operating system, god awful BaseCamp desktop app is, how slow the whole thing works, the prices of maps are outrageous, and honestly not so good after all. Thank god, i didnt pay any money for this, i see it sells for 500$ on ebay. Mind blown. Major dislike.
Thank you for your question. There are a few differences between these two products. Below is a link comparing the two and their features. I hope this helps. GPSMAP 66st and GPSMAP 66sr comparison - www.garmin.com/compare/?compareProduct=707627&compareProduct=598408
This is a sales video, not a training video. You guys need to step up your post sales support.
It's a shame there are no videos on TH-cam on how to simply set up this unit and collect waypoints???
I was sold before the video. Thanks for the info.
How does this help me use the 66sr ? This is an advertisement not a training video. Utterly misleading
Please ensure the UTM location data is in large type for map use with older eyes.
Yes, don't waste screen. Make those numbers visible.
Does it have camera
Thank you for your question. No, the GPSMAP 66sr does not have a camera. The GPSMAP 64csx and Montana 750i do.
I hope it doesn't have the same bugs as the original 66s. If you guys at Garmin have fixed the glitches this could be a very promising handheld for backcountry
But this video does not show to use the unit nor does the box come with any detailed instructions

66sr: how to view more than one tracks on the map? Unlike Oregon or Etrex, there is no track manager with the switch to set "show on map" Thanks!
Come on Garmin. Give us a Montana 680 with these new features. Not some large brick like the 700.
It’s called the 700 cause that’s how much you gonna pay for the damn thing

the gps map66sr is so precise as to be used in catastral measurements of topography plots, or should I buy something else?

Why not multi frequency in the Rino?
My understanding is the ST also provides same minus the rechargeable battery pack. Am I missing something here.?

Battery life might be twice that of a 66st but the 66st uses 2xAA: unlike the 66sr you don't need to go around with power banks and cables...
But one would still have to hike around with batteries...
