I used to visit the Hot Wheels team at Mattel almost every week for business. There isn’t a more creative, hardworking and diverse bunch of people like those guys. That includes Nathan Proch, who’s a really good guy. Some people may not like the Deora II because of its looks or who was involved in its build - but you try to do the same or better. Thanks again, Retro!

Thank you. After reading all the comments, it makes me want to write a big text. I want to write pros and cons, but I try to keep neutral and for me the car is like a separate book story. The car corresponds to its time, you can find a lot of cars created in a similar design. It would be possible to create something else, I do not know, someone will say yes, and someone will say no. It also depends on the designer or a certain group or company. But it's nice to read the comments and what people think about the car.

I have fond memories of both the original AMT model kit and the Hot Wheels car when I was in grade school. Though there is a Hot Wheels of the Deora II, the model kit companies have yet to bring us the Deora 2.0 version. I hope they will, soon!
Thanks for sharing this with us!

I have seen concept photos of the Deora III, and it seems to me that it is a direct tribute to the first version of the car. I might make a video about the Deora III; I haven't read the articles yet and don't know if a full-scale model was built. But what I do know is that the Deora III looks much more beautiful than the Deora II.

@@retrocarchannel The original Deora was cool to my eight-year-old eyes, and I still find it a classic. My jaded adult eyes see a car that you need to be a contortionist to enter, exit, and service. And Lord help you if you have to park against a wall front-in, much less rear-end someone or run into anything.
At the end of the day, the Deora-Series are show cars, concept cars, and more to the point, artworks meant to be appreciated, but not intended to serve as daily (or even weekend cruising) drivers. In this sense, concept cars serve a very important aesthetic - if not practical - purpose.
Thanks again for bringing all these unusual vehicles to us!

I didn’t realize was done in the 2000s. Always thought it was older than that.

You mean the original Dodge Deora- The yellow one The Alexander Bros made in 1965?

@ no, I am well aware of the first one and the model kit of it is on my to do list. Just sometimes you don’t realize how old you really are. I always thought the Deora II was more 90s. But then again 2000 is 25 years ago now. Sold a lot of hot wheels during the 90s and 2000s and don’t recall this as a first edition.

I would love to see coverage of Australia's Holden concept cars, especially the Efijy.

The Holden Efijy is a beautiful car but I have a feeling it's not its time, I'm keeping it for a better time. Maybe a little later I'll make a video about it. It's a very beautiful car.

So WHY no pictures of the ORIGINAL DEORA at the beginning, so people know what the h. you're talking about?

I hadn't thought of that, indeed it could have been done that way. It's my mistake, I apologize.

It seems that futuristic concept designs back in the 60's were hell bent on placing the passengers ahead of the front wheels in what we now call "the crumple zone"

Lol, why do people hate Chip Foose so much?
I was never a fan- I mostly just knew him as Sam Foose's son, skilled at drawing, but not as good at hands-on building as his Dad was. But I never saw any reason (that I knew of) to dislike him.
(Then again, most of those 00s realityTV guys seemed kinda sketchy)

I don't get it. Never heard that there WAS a problem with Chip until this very video. Sounds like crap to me.

It failed here in the USA because it was not offered with a manual transmission. Imagine, a performance car of the time w/o a standard transmission. What were they thinking. Also, they proclaimed at the time that was never going to be a S version, a symbol of Porsche performance. It thus appealed, or tried to, to Mercedes buyers, and they were not interested in the rough and tumble world of Porsche cars. Also, and for me crucially, they never legitimized the car by racing it. Who did they think their demographic was?! Trying to sell a car that was never a real Porsche, but rather a grand touring auto that could have been made by any number of manufacturers. Again, what were they thinking?!

An idiotic design with a big, heavy engine at the rear, giving it totally wrong weight distribution!

This isn’t a great design. It looks like the used bar of soda automobile styling utilized for the 1999 Ford Taurus.
