Shane didn’t write this particular song He actually said of his fellow band mate , Phi Chevron “ I could never write a song like that “ A high acolade indeed
R.I.P. Shane..... A legend ! A genius ! A writer and a singer of songs ! thanks for all the great songs that resonated with the Irish of the 80's everywhere.
Dear Shane, many of us are grieving. We will miss you, but we will never forget you, you will always be in our hearts! You were a legend in life, you will always be a legend. We love you. 2023. december.
It's a misty morning here in Donegal and this song immediately sprung to mind. Exquisite songwriting and the trumpets at the end just finish me. Genius. Proud to be irish when ya hear this.
I love the donkeys of Connemara, heart bleeds for their troubles. Woke up a few times myself under a bridge, when I was in the flower of youth, of course
I dreamt we were standing By the banks of the Thames Where the cold grey waters ripple In the misty morning light Held a match to your cigarette Watched the smoke curl in the mist Your eyes, blue as the ocean between us Smiling at meI awoke so cold and lonely In a faraway place The sun fell cold upon my face The cracks in the ceiling spelt hell Turned to the wall Pulled the sheets around my head Tried to sleep, and dream my way Back to you againCount the days Slowly passing by Step on a plane And fly away I'll see you then As the dawn birds sing On a cold and misty morning By the Albert Bridge
Caro Shane...
Great tune from a great album....say no more. The Pogues have to (hands down) sit in my top 5 fave bands ever. Don't listen to them much these days but boy oh boy, sticking one of their MacGowan era albums on is just like going back to the days they were released.
He may be criticized by many, but he represents a real normal person who self destructs. I think he is a genius who was under appreciated.HeHeHeHeHeHeHeHeHeHeHeHeHeHeHeHe
Rest In Peace Shane. Your work is done, you have earned your place at the head table. Enjoy then next life and when/if you feel it needs it's, give hell.................... Your poetry will always be there for me to unlock if and when I need it as my life goes by..........You and Jem wrote some amazing songs between you and individually.
I was going with a girl and she had to go to France.. and when she was gone this was playing as I was rallying round Dublin and by jesus did I cry my fucking beautiful brown eyes out! the Lazla has so much love for all the girls he loved.
One of the most beautiful songs ever. RIP Shane McGowan. Poet extraordinary.
Agree Shane was a poet and one of the best songwriters of our time, but this was written by Jem Finer.

Indeed... No one else comes close.
Might be their best one and that's saying something.
Indeed. My go-to song every time im on my own n drunk
He may be criticized by many, but he represents a real normal person who self destructs. I think he is a genius who was under appreciated.
i don't know why he would be criticized
a genius who IS underappreciated, not WAS ;P
Not under appreciated by those who know .. he is and will always be probably the best poet to ever come out of ireland
@@darrennolan8385 He was fantastic, but you shoul'd know better the Irish Poetry

This for me, is one of Shane's greatest achievements, what a song.
Jem Finer wrote it! Shane put it across!
An absolute Masterpiece!
Yes, jem finer wrote this masterpiece and shane performed and sold it perfectly.

It's a misty morning here in Donegal and this song immediately sprung to mind. Exquisite songwriting and the trumpets at the end just finish me. Genius. Proud to be irish when ya hear this.

Ahhhh my mom told me the news… I immediately thought of this song. ❤️ to you all.
I love the donkeys of Connemara, heart bleeds for their troubles. Woke up a few times myself under a bridge, when I was in the flower of youth, of course
Swear I have no words to describe how this song makes me feel.
I lived the life of the pubs of north and south London God bless you shane so many died on the streets
I dreamt we were standing
By the banks of the Thames
Where the cold grey waters ripple
In the misty morning light
Held a match to your cigarette
Watched the smoke curl in the mist
Your eyes, blue as the ocean between us
Smiling at meI awoke so cold and lonely
In a faraway place
The sun fell cold upon my face
The cracks in the ceiling spelt hell
Turned to the wall
Pulled the sheets around my head
Tried to sleep, and dream my way
Back to you againCount the days
Slowly passing by
Step on a plane
And fly away
I'll see you then
As the dawn birds sing
On a cold and misty morning
By the Albert Bridge
Tammy thats my song
I think God himself wrote that chorus and gave it down to Shane,it’s unbelievable 🎤😎
Such a beautifully written song, capturing the essence of beauty and romance within a moment of time - wonderful!
"Tried to sleep and dream my way back to you, again...

Fucking love this song. Wish I choose it for my wedding
This song is always in my heart
The old main drag, if you want to hear poetry, Shane your words will live long after you are gone
Such a beautiful song! So genuine and always flowing, like a great river of music.
For me this is the exile's song, par exellence, totally related to it in moving away from all I loved in the 80s to a different continent.
Possibly my favourite Pogues song. If that’s possible. Shane has always sung to my soul.
One of the sweetest melody's ever!
One of the finest songs ever written x

Diamond classics! I'm crazy for The Pogues. This song and 'Rainy Night in Soho' have brilliant lyric base, but I'm crazy for all of them really lol!
