One guy literally ranted about there being any semblance of a story, claiming it would somehow instantly ruin the action by interrupting it even for 10 seconds. And that was far from the only complaint... "Story bad". "Glory kills bad". "New suit gay". "Multiplayer Halo reskin". "Go back to sprites"... Someone bitched about the corpses disappearing. Because you know, hardware limitations don't exist.

The upgrade/rune system is for me rather a pace killer and the secrets can be tedious for completing the game because those were very optional in oldschool doom . Even the monster arenas can be tedious or coming out to be lazy designed but thats about subjective tastes in overall game design. Rest of it is kickass and awesome .Doom 2016 is awesome but not perfect for sure. The replayability would be way much better if we got new game plus like mode for harder difficulties instead of the underwhelming arcade mode. Im hyped for D-Eternal but i hope some nice improvements to streamline the Upgrade/rune system.

Doom eternal is a big step above doom 2016 with the gameplay. I love that you can swing from poles, and grapple with the meat hook. It’s something the doom slayer can do because he’s a badass. It’s like we got a semi nerfed doom slayer in 2016 and with eternal we get a fully unleashed slayer with all the new mobility options.

I loved Doom and Doom 2 as a teenager when they came out, and played them to death. That said, I am so incredibly glad that they added more mechanics and variety. Games and game engines have come so far since the early /mid-nighties and developers are able to do much more now. Stop being stuck in the 90s.
Old games like Quake , Doom , Unreal , Duke Nukem had actual level design and it was fun exploring the levels in the games. The levels in the newer doom games are linear and soulless. I still can remember levels from the orginal Doom and Nuke Nukem i played these games so long ago. I played this when it camed out and not a single map left animpression on me.

asimple pie I think there are different ways to innovate. I also think there is an urge to remake or redo a past intellectual property with a modern spin (which is not bad) but in trying to innovate or modernize they lose the emotion that the original IP provoked. I might just be an old guy making the “back in my day” speech but try and understand where I’m coming from. I definitely understand where we are now. I’m gonna play this game, no doubt. It’s gonna be fun. But I never really expected (or wanted) any tomb raider, prince of Persia, etc in a Doom FPS. That’s not what human marines do so why would our hero do that? Is he not human? Am I playing diablo now? There are plenty of other FPS that can do extra bullshit like overwatch but doom was lone man (or child in my case) vs hell itself. This is game is something else. Something less genuine, I guess. Like tony stark vs hell.
Ballista jump/boost is useless because weapon switching is too slow ; dashes are console mechanic. Doom Eternal = 9999% console oriented. On Doom 2016 you could have fun with a pad AND a mice (with spamming gauss jump to counterbalance slow moves)

Doom and quake like games all had movement based mechanics, the original doom was about running really fast and taking advantage of the environment to beat your enemies, those were literally the bases for doom, and anything else than that is against og doom mechanics. DOOM is a movement shooter, if it's movement was limited then it wouldn't be DOOM

Red dead redemption (series), watch dogs (series), Vanquish, deus ex: man kind divided, metal gear solid (series), killing floor (series), sniper elite (series), battlefield and all of the cod games before COD:MW (2019) had bullet time. It's a staple mechanic of the genre. If you really want to reach, zelda breath of the wild, shadow of the colossus and mirror's edge could loosely called fps. Call of Juarez and max payne are old and not as relevant, but we're also AAA games with bullet time.

The funny part is after playing the game you quickly realize that some of those climb able things are so well placed in the levels that you forget they exist. And some secrets are so hard to find that I needed to buy all upgrades for finding them.

These "old Doom good, new Doom bad" make me feel ashamed to be a fan of Doom. I'm a huge fan of the original Doom, but I also thought the 2016 Reboot or Sequel was excellent, tho I believe Doom Eternal will blow it out of the water.
I loved the old doom games, yet hated the new ones. Doom 3 cemented that. I thought doom 2016 was going to be really bad and was never going to buy it. Of course, my love of doom, I did it anyways. And I was very glad I did. A game that for me, hit the highs of the original. Im quite young, but I was a fan of the old doom and a huge fan of the new ones too. Considering the way it was made, I feel that being a fan of the old doom games makes you like the new one even more

I'm going to love hell on earth out of DOOM Eternal. I loved the 2016 already. And I still the old WADs in my collection on the classics. I wish most of mine weren't lost. I guess 30 or so years and the last backup is gone, even on the Internet. And still, what this guy said, some of it has merit, nickpicking or not. About the boomer stuff: some of us have actually played old and new DOOM, like it, but started out as bratty teens when we first got the chance. Anyway, great video, on to the next one when you're ready.
I’d far rather play Brutal Doom/Project Brutality/Ashes 2063 than Doom Eternal. I found Eternal to be pretty bland tbh. Love the more open-ended Doom mods I mentioned above though

I'm 30 years old. The first time I ever played DOOM was on the SNES when I was like 8, and I absolutely LOVED IT!!! I've never been a PC guy, so the next time I got to play DOOM and DOOM 2 was when my older brother bought an XBox with DOOM 1, 2, and 3 on it, and I played the hell out of DOOM/DOOM 2. Then a few years later I bought the DOOM 3 BFG addition (mainly cuz it had Ultimate DOOM & DOOM 2). Not long after that I bought DOOM Classic Complete on PS3 which came with DOOM/ DOOM 2 + No Rest of the living and The Master Levels, and also both TNT and Plutonia. I think I played all 162 levels( i think thats how many Classic Complete had including secret levels) like 10 times. Now I have DOOM & DOOM 2 on the PS4, which they just added TNT, Plutonia, and even SIGIL!!! Which I've been playing since they added it a few weeks ago. So if you can't tell, DOOM/DOOM 2 is in my top 5 favorite games EVER, let alone my favorite FPS ever. DOOM 3 I always thought was good, but the worst DOOM game I've played imo. Still, good game. DOOM 4 (2016) was great, definitely better than 3! And just from what I've seen from DOOM Eternal, I feel like it's going to be even better than DOOM 2016! But what I'm honestly the most excited for is DOOM 64 actually, because after the SNES I stuck with PlayStation consoles, so I've never played DOOM 64 and I am soooo damn excited to finally play it! Honestly, I'm going to play DOOM 64 before DOOM Eternal. Keep it up ID Software! Oh and also, I hope other companies re-release classic FPS games on consoles like ID Software did with DOOM and like 3D Realms did with Duke Nukem 3D. Because I've never played the classics such as Blood, Shadow Warrior, Rise of the Triad etc. Blood I especially hope gets a console port, it looks like it would be my 2nd fav FPS ever if i played it(Duke Nukem 3D holds that position atm) At least they are releasing DUSK and Ion Fury on the PS4 at some point, I can't fucking wait to get my hands on those games! I loved Doom and Doom 2 as a teenager when they came out, and played them to death. That said, I am so incredibly glad that they added more mechanics and variety. Games and game engines have come so far since the early /mid-nighties and developers are able to do much more now. Stop being stuck in the 90s.

Old games like Quake , Doom , Unreal , Duke Nukem had actual level design and it was fun exploring the levels in the games. The levels in the newer doom games are linear and soulless. I still can remember levels from the orginal Doom and Nuke Nukem i played these games so long ago. I played this when it camed out and not a single map left animpression on me.

I also think there is an urge to remake or redo a past intellectual property with a modern spin (which is not bad) but in trying to innovate or modernize they lose the emotion that the original IP provoked. I might just be an old guy making the “back in my day” speech but try and understand where I’m coming from. I definitely understand where we are now. I’m gonna play this game, no doubt. It’s gonna be fun. But I never really expected (or wanted) any tomb raider, prince of Persia, etc in a Doom FPS. That’s not what human marines do so why would our hero do that? Is he not human? Am I playing diablo now?
There are plenty of other FPS that can do extra bullshit like overwatch but doom was lone man (or child in my case) vs hell itself. This is game is something else. Something less genuine, I guess. Like tony stark vs hell.

Doom and quake like games all had movement based mechanics, the original doom was about running really fast and taking advantage of the environment to beat your enemies, those were literally the bases for doom, and anything else than that is against og doom mechanics. DOOM is a movement shooter, if it's movement was limited then it wouldn't be DOOM

If you really want to reach, zelda breath of the wild, shadow of the colossus and mirror's edge could loosely called fps.
Call of Juarez and max payne are old and not as relevant, but we're also AAA games with bullet time.

I'm going to love hell on earth out of DOOM Eternal. I loved the 2016 already. And I still the old WADs in my collection on the classics. I wish most of mine weren't lost. I guess 30 or so years and the last backup is gone, even on the Internet. And still, what this guy said, some of it has merit, nickpicking or not. About the boomer stuff: some of us have actually played old and new DOOM, like it, but started out as bratty teens when we first got the chance. Anyway, great video, on to the next one when you're ready.
This game is so tedious. There is nothing to it apart from repetitive gameplay. People are so brain dead

I found Eternal to be pretty bland tbh. Love the more open-ended Doom mods I mentioned above though

I'm 30 years old. The first time I ever played DOOM was on the SNES when I was like 8, and I absolutely LOVED IT!!! I've never been a PC guy, so the next time I got to play DOOM and DOOM 2 was when my older brother bought an XBox with DOOM 1, 2, and 3 on it, and I played the hell out of DOOM/DOOM 2. Then a few years later I bought the DOOM 3 BFG addition (mainly cuz it had Ultimate DOOM & DOOM 2). Not long after that I bought DOOM Classic Complete on PS3 which came with DOOM/ DOOM 2 + No Rest of the living and The Master Levels, and also both TNT and Plutonia. I think I played all 162 levels( i think thats how many Classic Complete had including secret levels) like 10 times.
Now I have DOOM & DOOM 2 on the PS4, which they just added TNT, Plutonia, and even SIGIL!!! Which I've been playing since they added it a few weeks ago.
So if you can't tell, DOOM/DOOM 2 is in my top 5 favorite games EVER, let alone my favorite FPS ever.
DOOM 3 I always thought was good, but the worst DOOM game I've played imo. Still, good game.
DOOM 4 (2016) was great, definitely better than 3! And just from what I've seen from DOOM Eternal, I feel like it's going to be even better than DOOM 2016!
But what I'm honestly the most excited for is DOOM 64 actually, because after the SNES I stuck with PlayStation consoles, so I've never played DOOM 64 and I am soooo damn excited to finally play it! Honestly, I'm going to play DOOM 64 before DOOM Eternal. Keep it up ID Software!
Oh and also, I hope other companies re-release classic FPS games on consoles like ID Software did with DOOM and like 3D Realms did with Duke Nukem 3D. Because I've never played the classics such as Blood, Shadow Warrior, Rise of the Triad etc. Blood I especially hope gets a console port, it looks like it would be my 2nd fav FPS ever if i played it(Duke Nukem 3D holds that position atm)
At least they are releasing DUSK and Ion Fury on the PS4 at some point, I can't fucking wait to get my hands on those games! I'm just as excited for them as I am for DOOM 64 and DOOM Eternal tbh.

However the boomer has a point, i m tired of running after monsters with a chainsaw in my hand like a butcher only to be able to extract some ammo... The limited amount of ammo is the most stupid thing in the game. This thing is not exactly a doom. it is a doom-ish game.
