I stand corrected (50 lashes for using ChatGTP!): Leo Young actually ran 13:38 in 2021 so Evan didn't beat the Nat'l HS record. Evan did beat Nico's record of 13:39.70 in 2019.
Evan has a tremendous kick that's very deceptive in that he doesn't look like he's moving his legs that fast; he's increasing his stride lengths. I know this because on the bike cam, I kept underestimating how fast he's gaining on the bike and by the time I realized that fact, he's almost passing me. This is why I switched from a 2000W motor to a 5000W motor (for the elite runners as well as that crazy steep Poop Out Hill at Mt. SAC).
(Unfortunately, the camera came loose from the electronic stabilizer or gimbal plate mount so I lost 6 minutes mounting it back on - Fortunately the camera did not fall off the bike due to multiple safety straps. Note to self: check gimbal mount every other race).
