    In Toronto, Canada where I grew up caught and cot are pronounced the same way. And in most American accents they are pronounced the same as well...maybe in some southern dialects, there might be some difference.

    The American vowel pronunciations are much easier to do and the differences in the way the words sound is more marked. The British sounds are perhaps more beautiful to the ear, but are much more difficult to do.

    Didn't realise ɔː and ɒ are kinda different until today, have been speaking English for more than two decades .. such a disgrace on me.
