Always amazes me how well Richard Basehart could be so versatile. He could play very evil sick individuals with conviction or be as gentle as a kitten. I really don’t think he was given enough credit in his time. His characters were always so convincing. Some creepy! This was a good movie stacked with a list of great actors. Jack Webb I am always happy to see a good set up for his series Dragnet which I always love seeing, This movie was well written ! Thank you for sharing. @BrokenTrout
This is definitely better quality than my DVD of the film, which I've had for a few years. Digital restoration, perhaps? A great film and the precursor to what became the "Dragnet" radio and TV shows.
Good story which many modern films lack, and carried along at a nice pace by the director. The story was specific to that location, and Vienna for those who have seen The Third Man, which was a clever use of the location. Coppers were a little stiff and I think I thought that when I saw one of them in a British film by John Gilling but the lead was pretty good, and sure I’ve seen him before but not sure where, which made it an above average film.
exceptional movie! top-notch acting by basehart. what worked best was wonderful interplay of light and shadow, loud noise and tense silence. no frills needed. sort of a third man film without the irony and dark humor.
A plus movie Broken trout great suspense movie Richard basehart was also a great actor and was also in voyage to the bottom of the sea use to watch it when I was growing up

A Great Cop flick… after 28 with NYPD I seldom watch Police movies thru to the end…but this movie kept my interest till the end… and it was based on a true story… I loved it.!!! Watched it twice in one sitting.. Acting was exceptional for what was considered a “ B” movie…
