Cheryl, I'm so delighted that your videos continue to be available for repeated reviews and to remind me with a guided demonstration of how to do what is needed...and I needed this sloped bind off today! Thank you!!
This is wonderful advice, thank you Cheryl-finishing techniques make garments look professional, classy, and expensive. This is a great technique for a good finish
Once again, I've learned something very useful from you. This is a much better method and look - thank you Cheryl for once again sharing your expertise.
Perfect I’ve found the correct way of doing the slope bind off. Other tutorials have the slipped stitch at the end of the alternate row very loose so it doesn’t sit well but yours doesn’t ...thank you!
thankyou so much, you just saved all my knitting from today and forward :) Thanks for your uploads, I always look at your channel. Greetings from Denmark
+Claudio Bueno Thank you for watching and commenting Claudio, and you are so welcome. Have you joined my newsletter group over at www.cherylbrunette.com yet? I don't send out that many emails but I like to think they are worth reading.
Complimenti signora. Mi scuso se non scrivo in inglese ma non conosco la sua lingua purtroppo. Ma i suoi video sono chiarissimi perché accompagna la pratica con lo schema del modello. Grazie mille.
That is just awesome, Cheryl. I am about to do a sweater and this is just perfect as I've always hated that horrid step. Thanks again for making this video. Lu x
You are so welcome Linda. Have you joined my email newsletter tribe over at cherylbrunette.com yet? If not, I hope you'll consider it. That's where I keep in closest touch with knitters. And I have a free how to make a sweater class at howtoknitasweater.com
Tks for sharing this clean, smooth finishing. I loved it ! I didn't knit any sweater yet, only small things so far. I went back to knitting last year after decades : ) of interruption. I like very much your techniques (grafting, p.ex.). I got your book Sweater 101 and I intend to make a sweater someday. : ))
I was making a pair of 'pedicure socks' and was really stuck on how to bind off on a slant. I usually do not post comments but I appreciate your help I thought I must thank you!
Pedicure socks are open toe socks so you can show off your pedicure!!! Socks are knitted in the round like a typical socks pattern, however instead of knitting all the way to the toes instructions state to bind off so the toes remain exposed. My question is do I follow the same instructions when binding off in the round or does the bind off have to be modified?
what a beautiful finished look and so easy too thanks for showing us how to do it right. =). I like things looking perfect to the point that i will rip out work and start again in knitting and in crochet.
+Ivy Alston Yay! It really does make a nice edge to pick up. Thank you for taking the time to comment. Have you joined my newsletter group over at www.cherylbrunette.com yet? I don't send out that many emails but I like to think they are worth reading. That's where I connect to knitters in a closer way. Please join us.
Hi Cheryl! I am working on a sweater and I want to do the short row bind off at the shoulders. I understand how to do the front of the sweater, but I am having a hard time with the back of the sweater. the pattern says to bind off 10 stitches the next 4 rows then bind off 10 stitches the next 2 rows and then bind off 54 sts for the back of the neck. How do I use the short row bind off for the back?
You are so, so welcome. It's one of my favorite dandy tricks. Have you joined my email newsletter group at cherylbrunette.com yet? If not, please join us.
hello Ms. Cheryl, thank you very much for such a good Tutorial. May I ask you pls?I am working on at the Back of my Pullover. The shape is very similar to the Back on your Video. I did the Short Row shaping on Both Shoulders. Now my Problem is. How will I Bind it off, when the Neck ( Back ) is Straight like yours. ?Please help me
+leomerly I'm not sure that I understand the question entirely but let's see if this makes sense. And I'm not sure which video you're referring to with the back of a sweater. I have several but in general I bind off the back of the neck of all adult sweaters with a regular, passover bind off. I do not bind off the back necks of children's sweaters unless it's a cardigan. I also usually make the back, then front of a sweater, then use a 3-needle bind-off for the shoulders. That joins them and binds them off at the same time. Does that help?
Thank you so much for this informative tut!! I am a new knitter and didn't know you could cheat instructions, makes me wonder why it wasn't created this way in the first place! Also how do you know how many you can choose to bind off like you did on the 6 you bound off instead of 10? I am dying to make a sweater but won't attempt it until I can understand the methods first.. thanks for your help! Will be checking out your website!
You're welcome. There are so many different techniques in knitting, many types of cast-ons for example. The more you know, the more confident you will grow in adapting patterns to your preferred methods. As for the number of stitches to bind off, your pattern will generally tell you. I just made up some numbers for my video prop.
Cheryl, as promised I checked out your site and blog! You are a quite amazing knitter and I wish I knew half of the techniques and knitting knowledge you have!! I will definitely be following you. Also since I am such a visual learner, do you have any CD's I can purchase? I've never done well with figuring out stitches in a book either in crocheting or knitting.
Thank you Ginmars. I've just been doing it a really long time. I don't have any CDs or DVDs. I do have a flash-drive product for machine knitters but I'm moving away from having to ship any kind of physical product. When the last of the current printing of my books are gone, I'll go to print on demand.
Do you mean the Sweater 101 book?? I thought I couldn't purchase it any longer and I would like to have it for sure. Please let me know how or where I can order download or order it. Thanks Cheryl!! Best wishes in all your endeavors!
www.cherylbrunette.com/the-sweater-101-book/ This second edition is really stout, built to last a long time. I like it a lot. And thank you for your kind words.
what I don't understand how to do is when I have finished the right side of the collar and I try to pick up from the initial bind off stitches on the left and do the other side, It just ends up as a mess for me when I try, somehow I need to integrate both new yarn into the jumper and somehow pick up a stitch from the bind off, not sure if I should also start by purling across to pick up the bind off stitch, haha, too hard for me, oh well...
+Knitting with Cheryl Brunette Im sorry for confusing you Cheryl, I will try to be clearer, I am doing a simple round neck jumper, if I try a sloped bind off for the neck line I will need to go to to both the right and left of the centre bind off. Not sure how to approach it. I can do one side like in your video but not the other side, not sure how to pick up and go the other way, Im just starting to learn how to knit, so this is all new to me. Perhaps I should just do decreases instead to form the neck line and pick up the stitches like your Sweater Finishing video. Thank you for contributing your knowledge, you have been very helpful. Sean.
I understand how you are binding off. It's simple, right? I'm in the process of binding off stitches to shape the shoulder for the back piece. The instructions say in "Love of Knitting" Summer 2016 issues -- Chloe Cardigan on page 52: "Shape Shoulders: BO 6 sts at beg of next 6 roows, then BO 6 sts at beg of foll 2 rows -- 41 sts remain" What would be the best way to BO these stitches evenly for the back piece at the shoulders? How could I divide up the BO's? BO 3 sts each side? I'm at a stand still until I get this resolved.
Hi Christy. I didn't quite understand this question so I sort of left it hanging. I don't know the pattern and I don't have this issue. I would have to check all the numbers to make sure they made sense. Another thing I don't know it the pattern stitch of the sweater, because that could change things. And you're right to be confused. That pattern language is not clear. What does "then BO 6 sts at beg of foll 2 rows" mean? That you are to do some plain rows between the bind off rows? I suggest you contact the magazine and/or designer and ask this question. Sorry it took forever to respond. Life. Like everyone's, mine's full.
You are welcome and thank you for watching and commenting. I invite you to join my email newsletter group at cherylbrunette.com if you haven't done so already. That's where I really keep in contact with knitters.
Hanan . . . this is a very broad question . . . there are several ways to shape it and depending on the size you need there are different depths and widths. I have some guidance for this for 30 sizes in my book SWEATER 101 www.cherylbrunette.com/the-sweater-101-book/ Have you joined my email newsletter tribe over at cherylbrunette.com yet? If not, I hope you'll consider it. That's where I keep in closest touch with knitters and I give out a ton of good information.
This is a very large question hanan. Your shaping depends on the size of sweater and depth and width of the opening. Then there are many ways to finish it. The Russian video you posted is only one way to finish the opening and she doesn't show you how to shape it, though it is very handsome. My book Sweater 101 can give you some guidance on shaping it for a number of sizes: www.cherylbrunette.com/the-sweater-101-book/
You are so welcome Hilde. I hope you'll come to cherylbrunette.com and join my email newsletter group if you haven't done so already. That's where I'm in closest touch with knitters.
Honestly Berni, I don't remember. I've been at this teaching knitting business off and on for over 30 years and can't remember all the articles I've written and videos I've made. And this is a great suggestion because often I want a simple written form. However, if you come to my website at cherylbrunette.com and join my email newsletter group you'll get a semi-coherent presentation of my body of work . . . part of it at least. That's where I give lots of good information and keep in closest touch with knitters.
Hi Cheryl,.Wish you didn't live so far. I really admire you and appreciate every tutorial and the precious time you spent in making these fantastic videos.Y've taught me so much in such a short time. Please may I ask you, many patterns ask for raglan shaping and I'm clueless as HOW to JOIN the two pieces. I know I already reuested a video before. PLEASE If you do have some spare moments could you do a video? Thanks in advance and thanks for sharing and caring. I would love to donate for your videos. They are o precious. You fan xxx.
Knittyneeds Thank you for this very kind comment knittyneeds. First, come to my website (www.cherylbrunette.com) and join my new, free "club" and fill out the survey. I'm trying to pull people into one place so that I can be more efficient at answering questions and designing programming. I'm not sure what your exact problem is.. Have you watched the sweater finishing series? I address putting raglans together there. You just use a regular mattress stitch and do the yoke first. Are you talking about doing them in the round? And sorry that I lost that you requested a video before. I'm in too many places what with Facebook and here and Ravelry . . . I can't keep all of it straight but the survey is really concentrated and straightforward (and short). I'm tracking that better.
Hi, Cheryl. Haven't seen you here for a long time. Hope you are doing well. Please when you read this, just give a sign. Still love your videos very very much.
Cheryl, I'm so delighted that your videos continue to be available for repeated reviews and to remind me with a guided demonstration of how to do what is needed...and I needed this sloped bind off today! Thank you!!

You are so welcome Kara, and I agree about finishing. I'm giving a knitting guild presentation on that subject in a couple of weeks in Vancouver WA.

Cheryl
Do I follow the same steps when knitting in the round?
Thank you

Yes. Unless there is something unusual in the shaping that I'm missing. (I don't know what 'pedicure socks' are).

Well . . . it's just one way to handle step bind-offs but I think it's a great tool to have in ones knitting tool bag.
You are amazing. Love your smile and the soft music too . Thanks for sharing. Hugs xxx
Thank you Knittyneeds. You are kind and generous. Thanks for watching and commenting.

Great tutorial. Now I know how to avoid 'steps' that are so difficult to sew up - or in my case, I crochet my pieces together.
Glad it was helpful!
Thank you for making things easier.
