DukeofPurl . . . I don't know why I can't reply directly to your comment but I think the pattern may be published but I didn't use it. I wanted a reversible, cabled scarf and looked at a lot of pictures. I saw one like this and came up with the number of sts to get the width I wanted. This is 52 sts, crosses on rows 5 and 8 and is a DK weight. It's Knitpicks Capra. A very nice hand.
Perfect! I just had to rip out a scarf because I kept forgetting the row I was on when I came back to it. I printed out some graph paper, and now I'm off to start again :) Thank you!
You are so welcome Mandy. I found this so much easier than dropping the needles and picking up a pencil. Have you joined my email newsletter group at cherylbrunette.com yet? If not, please consider joining us. That's where I give lots of good information and keep in closest touch with knitters.
how clever - I just had to take apart a scarf I was doing because I had "left" it for a couple of weeks and couldn't remember where I was - thank goodness it was only a few inches long but I had left it in the middle of a row and well --- you know the rest of the story - thank you for a great idea
It's ecological tool! Even more so if you make it with scrap paper. Thanks for the tip, also I didn't even know we could make reversible cables without making it ribbed!
Dear Cheryl, Can you please send me, writed instructions on how to do the scarf you showed us, and on the blue one, hanging in the background? Thanks! As always is nice to see you! And your tips are as always very useful.
The blue one hanging in the background is here: www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/change-ringing-scarf-plain-bob-minor As for the one I'm making? Cast on 52 sts, DK yarn, size 6 needles. K4 P4 across the first row ending with a K4. For all subsequent rows knit the knits and purl the purls as they present to you. On rows 5 and 8 of an 8-row repeating pattern, do a 2 x 2 left cable cross on the knit sections.
There is no pattern Frank. I just did it. 4 knits, 4 purls and then the cables every 6th row but start them at different places on each side, until it's "wide enough" for your taste given the yarn you're using. I'll see if I can find my scribbled notes on it. I really should be more careful about keeping a notebook of these things. Sorry. Have you joined my email newsletter group at cherylbrunette.com yet? Wise to put them into a hardbound charts book and keep your patterns for future generations! Also better to put down the explaination of the "x" otherwise it is trying to crack the code'
My mother used to do this! I forgot all about that. I'm going to resurrect this method now that you've reminded me! Thank you so much. :-)
NEAT!!!! My "mind-bag" is where I store knitting tricks. Thanks for adding to it with each and every video. Luv ya much!
You're welcome Mary, and thank you for your ever-generous presence in my world.

I DO know the rest of that story! That's why I came up with this method.
Now why didn't I think of that? Great tip, Cheryl!
:)
Thank you for sharing! I will try it too!

You are so welcome. Thank you for watching and commenting Karan.
I think I may have learned it from my mother too but I've been doing it for so long I can't really remember.
