I might be the first person in the company to interact with people from the production lines as an engineer. Normally there is a clear non communication attitude between engineers and the rest. Production people are working so relaxed, daily meetings are chill, problems are fixed in a relaxed way, nobody blames or flexes on each other, it is a fun environment. They are joking around, always playing music, more chatting with each other and socilizing. Engineering on the other hand, is very quiet and serious. People take their work very seriously. They mostly interact with each other on-a-need basis or meetings. How their managers are gonna react is always taken into account when doing something. The hierarchy is obvious, no matter how 'flat' the hierarchy it is. You are always being judged on how productive you are, story points, meeting the deadlines, going beyond your responsibilities is considered a standard and positive point. Saying this is not my job is a negative point. If you are gonna object to something, you need to choose your attitude and words really carefully. This was a huge culture shock for an intern who started in production then switched to product owner after her studies are finished. I guess that is the price for a some more salary and a relatively more job security.
It's not true though, i.e impostor / superiority syndrome. I've been at the game for +-16yrs. I really don't care what anyone thinks about my code. Even if a junior catches a bug I missed, great! We need all the eyes we can get on a problem! If someone senior... same thing. If they show me a tool I wasn't aware of, great! Learning never ends! And I treat juniors with just the same respect as I treat seniors because "senior" is just a function of time. The juniors have the same level of ability to learn as me and will soon catch up so I can't brag about being further from being junior than them... it's dumb.
I think if you are BS'ing thru meetings the label "senior" no longer applies. My view is that as a senior what you are being counted on to do is provide guidance. You've seen trends, you have been on different projects and used technologies and processes... all of which should help you in meetings, to say "guys, that's a bad idea... because ....". I actually never appreciated the value of experience until I was experienced and saw the difference between how I see problems from a mile away compared to a junior who can't. The reason I can see so far is because "been there, done that"! It really isn't because I am smarter, I just have memories a junior has not yet had a chance to acquire. @@ThaJay

The biggest flex I saw was a staff developer on a massive C++ code base using Vim - syntax highlighting turned off, single monitor, no mouse.
Sometimes you have to wonder "Am I even good enough to have imposter syndrome?"
"I wish I were good enough to have imposter syndrome!" I love it!
Imposter Syndrome Inception 🤯
no, you're not.
I'm saying to myself that I don't have impostor syndrome because if I do then it means that I'm better than what I think so I'm having a superiority complex

You missed the WFH-only Programmer "essential staff" flex of taking meetings in your kitchen or on walks, when everyone else has to go into the office.
A possible flex even better than that: Just skip the meetings because you know you can't be fired.

Bro, watching your vidoes makes me tear up every time. You're so bloody amazing.
Rest in peace Terry. Greatest programmer of all time
I wish he would've taken his meds. There's a tragic beauty in how such great works come from such troubled people, and it almost makes me feel guilty that such beauty can only come from great suffering.
Indeed, Terry Crews was the best programmer of all time. Especially with Tim Pool OS changing the industry.

The spider's greatest flex was actually the World Wide Web.
This is your best video yet. I've never laughed off my ass this hard.
How can this guy consistently make such great videos, fast and freaking awesome! 👏🏻
He learned to use the power of AI. 🤓
That's his flex.
This guy's a national treasure. Protect him.
"Those who can't code become influencers" -this is the main reason why there's so many tutorial videos covering only basic stuff, like literally stuff that can be found on documentation. Many devs will consume tech documentation over the weekend and create content for that, and becomes "influencer".
it's funny that you think they actually read the documentation themselves in the first place before they made a video about it
@@luckerooni7628 "whats a man page?"
Totally agree 👍
Sadly, this is why for example, when i needed to set up an API, half of the videos i saw (mostly from big channels) just gave error, or only helped to return a simple 200 code.
Like the premium Medium articles that Medium won't let you read where you can just google the title to get to the source where they copied from...

wow i can't believe that TH-cam approved you to advertise for them
I am not a programmer and I barely understand 30% of what you say, especially when you dive into the code jargon but damn it's entertaining to watch your videos! I could watch for hours!
The real flex is getting everything you said in this video. By the way, that ad transition is smooth in and out.

Sorry, what's wrong with this? Seemed like a fun video to me, basing on some inside jokes developers usually have?
I love this video. I had to watch it multiple times over several days to get all the laughs. I think this video is a masterpiece that presents one of the most important and most hilarious concepts in software development.

That ending though 👌
That might be okay if the engineering team actually was productive. The wording of your comment makes that... let's say... hmmm... unlikely 🙂
My favourite at the moment is the SystemVerilog Flex: "It's like programming, but all the lines get executed all the time, at the same time!"
I died laughing at this, and I love how LowLevelLearning made an appearance. You guys are awesome, good stuff!
So do Primeagen and debatably Terry Davis as well.
That had to be the most realistic description of a programmer I have ever heard. Even the YT Premium had me like… yeaaah I flex that too.
Man I love this channel so much..........despite not knowing much coding.
Love the Terry Davis quote from 1:02 to 1:07
It's not true though, i.e impostor / superiority syndrome. The juniors have the same level of ability to learn as me and will soon catch up so I can't brag about being further from being junior than them... it's dumb.
Being well adjusted and self-aware is such a great flex
The moment impostor syndrome means nothing to you and you bs yourself through every meeting without shame is when you have reached seniority.

Truly a masterpiece of a video. The music at the start and the end match up, showing that everything--even this video--is simply a cycle of life and death, of flexing and being flexed upon. 10/10 would join the Amish again
Your jokes are as funny as they are relatable. I remember punching my computer back in highschool because I was learning how to use dream Weaver back in 2007. When you code as simply your job and it's not tied to who you are - that is the ultimate flex because you then remove coding as any important part of any comparison as a person or personality.
