In hang gliding we used to call them “Wuffos”, as in “Wuff fo gonna do wid thet thang?” People would walk up to you at a launch when you’re hooked in and ready to go and ask “You gonna FLY thet thang?” Spectators: gotta love ‘em. 😂

Other issues with flags. Mounted to rear, they are now 7-8 feet behind the rest of the body. And flags are commonly found on much slower vehicles like wheelchairs, a velo is much faster and someone may think you aren't traveling as fast as you actually are.
The questions are similar in Sweden and Finland where I drive. The most important that I feel around the questions is to answer them calmly and correctly - people are really interested and it gives many new friends. … and maybe some new velonauts in the long run.
Yes. That is exactly correct. I have only once been annoyed by these discussions. It was a driver who was very rude about saying I was too low to the ground. He was trying to lecture me about how dangerous my velomobile was. Personally I found his very big SUV quite dangerous, but I did not tell him that. I just explained that I felt safe, which was true mostly because he was leaving and I was parking my velomobile at my destination so I would not be on the road near him 😉
My favourite was "Don't you think you should wear brighter clothes so that you'd be more visible?" I guess they just like saying that to all cyclists, but forgot to engage their brains.
Today I was yelled at by a grumpy woman who told me I didn’t belong in the road and that it would be my own fault if I got hit. I asked her how many squirrels she runs over with her big suv. She didn’t answer me 🤷🏻♂️
@@mnveloguy I've also had a similar experience, and it felt really frustrating. It's clear that there needs to be a shift in how people perceive those of us who ride bicycles or velomobiles.
