I stayed a couple of times in Israel and my experience is first and almost using credit cards. I had only a small amount of cash with me. You can use the creditcard all the time, at a filling station you need help at the office, they are very helpful and explain all the needs in English, no problems. Have a good time in Israel and enjoy all the sites.

Now the best time to travel is 1st week or the second week of March before the Passover pagans call it Easter 🐣 and the western world 🌎 call it’s pagan name Easter 🐣 this is also the season of many deaths. Unnecessary deaths. Why ???? Unprotected. Just make sure you go the temple Mt. And King David City. And the Yehudah Market. Take care ✝️🕊️💜🇮🇱🕎

I lived and worked in Israel for 3 Years in the 80s and had an Apartment in Tel Aviv. I can tell you some Horror Stories about changing Money. We were constantly approached on the Streets to change Money. At that Time Israelis were not permitted to have Foreign Currency unless they had a Visa for traveling out of Israel. We learned very quickly all of the “Tricks”. The worst Offenders were the “Curly Wurlies”. Inflation was enormous and the Black Market Exchange Rate was published in the Newspapers every Day. We had our favorite Shops to Change but only changed our US Dollars one Week at a Time. The only Time I changed in the Bank is when I bought a new Subaru and had to prove that I had changed my Dollars legally. We visited Israel a couple of Years ago after 30 Years absence and could not recognize the Place. It had changed so drastically (and not always for the better). Shallow alachem.

Finding places to change HKD and renminbi was a bit of a challenge. There’s a decent place in one of the back streets near the Damascus gate away from the tourist area. Getting shekels in Hong Kong also takes a bit of a search. (1 shekel =$2/¥2 roughly, so easy to work out prices)

Sellers accept the euro but value it as a dollar. it is not profitable to have euros.
Thanks to these video clips, I found my way around Israel easier.
I was during Shabbat and Passover. Exchange offices were not working, and in some shops you only needed cash, in churches and taxis as well.
If you plan on cash then better dollar than euro.
Of course, exchange offices calculate according to the exchange rate, and that's ok. I just changed into one of these from the video clip.

But Oren - my friends stayed at the Eldan Hotel in Jerusalem in December and locked USD in their room safe. When they returned the safe had been robbed and the staff shrugged their shoulders. Later they said they fired the room attendant or maintenance person (can't remember which it was) and that's it. No ownership or compensation for the loss. Thank goodness, my friends were able to find another hotel during that busy time because they felt really unsafe there. Did the staff know that they had a thief employed there? What a horrible experience. I wouldn't carry that much cash nor assume that it is safe ANYWHERE I travel. Israel is a country like anywhere and there are thieves here too.

True, and that's a bit annoying. When I arrive in Israel, I will take the train to Jerusalem, Tel Aviv, or wherever. But I still need a taxi to get from the train station to the hotel. So I have to find an ATM either at the airport or bus station. After an 11+ hour flight, I just want to get to the hotel, and not hunt for an ATM!
