These guys are so humble and amazing! Just the way that they introduce themselves - by their first words, I'm already smiling like an idiot. The very first thing they say is "...and I'm in a band called Switchfoot." That's so meaningful because they say it like they aren't popular. "A band called Switchfoot"; they could have just as easily said "And I play bass in Switchfoot," but they didn't. I adore them because they're so humble in not focusing on fame, but instead meekness and selflessness. THEY ARE SUCH GREAT PEOPLE.
I have a friend who relapsed into a heroin addiction after we met. I was devastated by the wreckage it caused. We listened to a number of Switchfoot's songs together, and quite a number of their songs actually speak into addiction, which is kinda weird considering they haven't struggled with these things themselves. It makes me wonder where they get their inspiration for those songs from...I guess Jon's struggle with depression can perhaps have some overlaps of feeling like a ghost... hmm
What is mine? Psilocybin mushrooms, occurring naturally here on the Oregon coast, is my natural high. And of course, music, the earth, and living films. Christ is free, and I am new in him. He has amplified the eternal being, and shares his glory with us. Now, I may come boldly to the Father of all lights.
Cool video. I applaud the direction to not use drugs to numb pain, but rather to deal with the cause of the pain. In my opinion, the Bride has not handled "drugs" well. Christ made all things that exist, it's there in Scripture. And when he made it, he said it was very good. This means everything, including the naturally occuring drugs in creation. The Bride has demonized getting high as some sort of ultimate sin, but in reality there is a time and a place for everything, as Solomon said. Jesus provided more wine at a wedding celebration. Some drugs are not ideal for recreational use. Some are. Morphine belongs in a hospital for extreme situations. Mushrooms are an incredible mind medicine, and not addictive at all. Curious enough, alcohol and nicotine are the most dangerous drugs and are perfectly legal. Of course, they are most common because of their legality, but we all know smoking kills and alcohol is easily abused. In reality, the bottom line is this: creation is good, and sin exists only with man. We can take any good thing and abuse it. We should rather learn to appropriately use God's creation, than ban/criminalize certain parts of it altogether.
Genetic breakdown, cancer, earthquakes, tornados, death... etc., entered the picture when man rebelled against God. In Genesis we read God cursed the ground. I used to have this mindset and justify my desire to take drugs as well. It doesn't work that way. I hope you are doing well friend. To die to the self is gain. Take up your cross.

I agree.
What Tim has said here is one of the most profound expressions of the pursuit of meaning I’ve ever heard
God bless these men and their family.
This is so beautiful. This is part of the reason that I love Switchfoot so much. They're a voice of hope. Because hope belongs in the dark places.
