This is an English release on the Parlophone label,
    Catalogue Nº R449
Matrix Nº 401877 (originally Okeh 41245)

What is the music being recorded with? There's a lot of surface noise that sounds like it is coming from the deck and not the horn. Is there a 2nd recording device down by the floor for the audio. The sound you can get from these is pretty good.

What equipment you have used for recording this video? Sounds perfectly.

It may surprise you but this was filmed just using a Sony HD video camera using the built-in microphones. I'm glad you enjoyed it anyway.

I've just got into Gramophones after finding one in a sorry state at my local auction rooms, I am really pleased with the way it turned out after a few hours work and a good clean, I was born in 1965 so gramophones were slightly before my time, I've watched quite a few videos and I am finding that there is a lot of music from the early 1940's that I really like, Can you tell me if I really have to change the gramophone needle after playing just one record and if so, is this because of the tonearm, any help or advice would be much appreciated and I've definitely got the gramophone bug my ultimate goal is to own a His Master's Voice 157.... Many thanks from Ian....

Hi Ian, yes . . . I know it sounds like a lot of fuss but it's highly recommended that you use a brand new needle for each play. It's always assumed that steel needles wear out records but, in reality, it's the other way around. The shellac compound that most 78's were pressed from included slate which would wear out the needle but unfortunately, once the needle was worn, it would start to damage the grooves on the record. You can buy needles in bulk very cheaply. Regards, Gordon

@@organlover1968 That's great advice Gordon thank you I have also found out that there are different tones of needle, at the moment I am using soft tone needles only because I found a his Master's Voice soft tone needle tin and cleaning brush inside the gramophone I bought some new ones because I had no idea how long the one's in the tin had been laying there... Thanks for your advice i'am finding it invaluable many thanks from Ian...

No problem Ian. Soft tone needles are great for most 30's / 40's recordings and, because they're thinner, they'll create less wear on the record surface and grooves. I hope you manage to find a good 157 sometime . . it really is one of my favourite machines.
