    I'm one of those family members that's has has taught all my children and friends kids, about 20 or so. All but 2 passed first time. I see learner drivers A LOT in my job and instructors vary greatly. I've been driving for 30 odd years and spend my day driving a bus...so had to pass the test again, I also train new drivers who have just passed their test.
    I found Richard's channel when I started helping my 17 year old nephew over a 18 months ago (passed 1st time) and I'm still watching to this day. Not only is this channel helping those trying to pass their test, it's keeping me informed and up-to date. It's been a big help to me to become a better amateur instructor. I just wonder if I could pass?...

    I passed my UK driving test first try. I didn’t have any lessons, but I did have 30 years of driving experience in the USA. Your videos were super helpful (especially the ones about the roundabouts). I didn’t really need to learn to drive, just to learn how to navigate roundabouts and a few of the other driving related things that were different between the USA to the UK.
    I still sometimes try to get in on the wrong side of the car though lol.

      @yamieyamete3822 manual transmission vehicles are very uncommon in the USA (unless you are driving a lorry/semi). I have only ever driven automatic transmission. Shifting with my left instead of my right isn’t that strange to me, most of the cars I drive in the USA had the gear shift on the left side of the steering column.
      Driving on the other side didn’t feel that weird, right turns were very weird feeling to me in the beginning. I really had to think about where I was going.

    In my country (Serbia) you have to finish 40 theory classes (45mins each), then theory exam then you have to do 40 driving classes (45 minutes each) before you can even attempt the Driving Exam. Watching other countries do it like this is kinda insane for me. Were way to strict

    • @antig1971
      @antig1971 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yeah. In the UK you can have a provisional license, where to drive on the road you need to be 17, have L stickers on the car and have someone who is 21+ and has a valid driving license. Way more lenient then Serbia 😂.

    • @elsavic
      @elsavic 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@antig1971 I mean people teach their kids and stuff here too, but its weird seeing a legal version of that being available for it. Do you have trial licenses also? When I passed I had to drive 2 years with a temp license, where I couldnt drive after 23:00 till 06:00, the speed limit for me is 10% less ish than other people and cant drive a car if it has more than 80kw engine + the Learners sticker ahhaha. I'm around 60% of the way there but it's weird having to think a little bit about getting the car to do what I want whereas on my bike I don't have to think about it. (Sorry for the long comment in advance) I never usually comment on things... But I just wanted to say this is absolutely possible! I passed my test within 3 months of booking my first driving lesson. and I give HUGE credit to all these TH-camr's, Videos like these is what helped me each week to come back better. My instructor was always shocked how much I learned from online. And I would practise what I learned from these videos in my instructors car.
    Also a tip to anyone watching these videos. Imagine yourself in that car. and when you hear an examiner or sat nav in a video tell you to turn left or turn right. Move your head up as if you are checking your rear view mirror, and then move your head left or right as if you are checking your side mirrors. even though you are sat at your compute/laptop/phone. This will Imprint the muscle memory into your brain. and when your test comes. You will hear: "Turn right" and will naturally move your head up and right. There's many different things you can practise in your own room. There's even fun road sign games and things you can play. Just have fun with your learning. don't treat it as a chore, JUST HAVE FUN, you all can do it

      @@ConquerDriving I think it's important to have a program with mandatory training and assessment before you can do the driving test, because there's only so much the examiner can catch in a short test. Of course it can be annoying for those who learn fast, but I think it's good the way it is.
      I did my BE driving test in 2012, partly to get code 79.06, and partly to do it before they added more mandatory training to the program in 2013.

The way he passed was from 16 he had a full motorbike licence and had reliant robbin. Which you could drive on a motorbike licence. The night before he had his mate drove round the route he would use and told him what to do on test. Obviously totally different to now. He did have to later to do another driving test when living in another country as can't use a British licence for ever if you have imigrated. I'm not sure of all the ins and outs of it probably other than if you have moved to another country they won't let you use a foreign licence indefinitely. Holiday is fine to drive

    Checking blind spot seems over exaggerated. I have my side mirrors setup such that it's angled super far out and forms a continuous image with the cabin mirror. This way for lane changes I can check cabin mirror for overtaking cars that will soon appear in the side mirror, check the side mirror, and lastly a quick shoulder check. With this setup the blind spot is virtually eliminated for cars. Motorcyclists can still hide if they ride in the far outside lane though; hence the need for the shoulder check. I don't think I've seen you mentioned mirror setup before on this channel. It does make parking next to curbs hard though since I can't see the side of my car with the side mirrors. I have to get my butt out of my seat in order to see the side of my car or to use one of the pre-programmed mirror settings specifically for parking.

    8:32 and letting the wheel slip through, in one hand.
    Easy to do in a modern car. Less rotations, power steering and even some electronic fly by wire - so less kick back. But technically can still lose control. In an hour or so I could see a minor being feasible. And I much prefer a full rotation look back for reverse parking - various cars have different blind spots that I distrust.
    10:52 the minor seems harsh. He seems fluid and confident and maybe forgot about the mock test , and drove into it more firmly. Up to this point, he’s far more polished than anyone I’ve been passenger to in the last few years.
    11:19 is a bad habit. The vast majority do this. Shouldn’t be speeding up until you’ve seen a sign and reached it; and the roadworks would make me suspicious anyhow, until again I saw a sign. You should physically feel step changes in speed between 30 and others, without much need to more than glance at the speedo. It’s habit. And 12:44 compounds this. It’s startling how many people don’t know the speed limits - are you breaking a 60 (62) on test or well undercooking the 70; be decisive.
    24:10 ‘feels’ like a 2 second gap. Nice. Again habit.
    26:07 again smooth. As presumably not a minor for entering the broken line hatched area.

    Not looking around during the manoeuvre is a serious fault not a minor due to the potential danger .

    I like Richard a whole lot, but Gary is too stern for me. 😊. Answer me this one question about the white lines on the middle of the road. How do you know if it means two way traffic or if they're going in the same direction. Here in the states we have a yellow line that tells us to keep on our side of the road. P S. Tell Gary for me to chill out some..❤

    Hi Richard, I would love to have a teacher like you. I am moving to around Southampton which is still to far away to get to you for teaching. What would you recommend I do when looking for a teacher. Also I haven't had lessons yet because of cost of lessons. The amount you need for the time that would be worth doing a lesson for is just too much at the moment but I'll figure it out.

      Thank you for watching the videos. My best advice would be to find an experienced instructor you get on with, ask friends but it can be trial and error before you find the one who suits you.

    Out of interest, as I passed before the satnav was invented, is the candidate allowed to ask where the satnav is directing them to? Gary said he was just setting up the satnav, but that would unsettle me if I wasn’t sure whether the end was in sight.

    • @ConquerDriving
      @ConquerDriving  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      They have to follow the route on the sat nav, the examiner may help if it's not clear.

    • @timmabbb
      @timmabbb 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I was told we'll be following the sat nav for 15 minutes but no end point and the examiner was really helpful when it was a bit unclear or satnav was saying an instruction too late, telling me things like 'to help with your planning, we'll be taking the second right'

    It seems so weird for me that it is legal to even take a driving test in the UK with only a single lesson. In Poland, you are required to have at least 30 hours of practical driving lessons to be allowed to take the practical test.

    Riddle me this: driving at speed and too close past parked cars where you wouldn't have any chance to react if a child runs into the road, thereby likely killing them, is a minor...yet driving in a sodding bus lane is a major???
    Make it make sense...
