- Before the world was created, the Lord has already existed. It is very clear in the following verses:
John 17:5: “Now, Father, glorify Me together with Yourself, with the glory which I had with You before the world was.”

Jesus as man, growing up as a Jew, is not a problem for us, for being human implies growing up in a specific culture. Jesus as God, being fully revealed in the New Covenant,came to fulfill the Law and the Prophets. We believe that in the fullness of time, he was born of a woman (the Virgin Mary), born under the law (of Moses), to deliver from the law those who were subjected to it, so that we might receive our status as adopted sons (Gal 4:5), born of water and the Spirit (Jn 3:5).
One cannot simply antagonize the Jewish culture or separate Christianity from its Jewish roots; to do so would make Jesus less human and more distant to humanity. That's the error of Marcion.

1. You said that it was no big deal for someone to suffer exile for the cause of Our Lord, and I am amazed by your courage to say that to someone attested in history. Can you also say that in the face of our countless brothers and sisters in Christ who suffered persecution, exile and even death for the sake of Christ, even as you read this message?
2. True, various sects and heresies sprang up with either the goal of understanding more the faith or to simply distort the message of the Gospel. Is that, then, a reason for us to no longer try to understand our faith, just because there were many wrong statements about the truth that is preserved by God who is Truth himself? Au contraire, mon frere! Rather than despair, I'd rather side with Augustine in the view that these heresies and schisms also serve to purify our faith and make us, the Church, which was founded on the apostles with Christ Jesus as the capstone (Eph 2:20), and was made the pillar and foundation of truth (1Tim 3:15), ready to give an explanation for the hope that is in us (1Pet 3:15). Besides, could not God be able to make the truth shine in the midst of darkness?
Hence, the need for "unneeded jargon." These technicalities are primarily for our sake, that we may more and more know him in whom we have believed (2Tim 1:12). We believe, and therefore speak (2Cor 4:13) with the grace of God and the inspiration of the Holy Spirit to guide us. As we live in this limited world, we still see God now as in the mirrors of human words, but worry not; we will see him clearly face to face, God willing. We walk by faith, meaning that I strive to live with God at the center of my life, and so I do not despair, as I also hope that you would not too.
3. Gal 4:5 is indeed written for Christians. I also am a Christian, so it is also a message for me, just as it is for you and for our brothers and sisters in the Lord. I understand why you call me a "pagan," because of the statues and icons and rosaries and what for you is whatnot-and that's okay, we're used to that accusation, and we know in our heart of hearts that we are WAY FAR from being pagan. (That is not our topic for now, though.) If, however, you do not consider me, a Catholic, as a Christian, then I pray, do tell me what makes one a Christian.
I am a Catholic. I believe in God who is Father, Son and Holy Spirit. I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God. I confess that he is OUR Lord and Savior, not simply mine, for I am both beloved as his brother and friend, and am a part of his Body, the Church. I strive to walk by faith in the Son of God who loved me and gave himself up for me. This I hope to do with the help of his grace. (You may also look up the Nicene Creed and the Apostles' Creed, to be precise.) What more could you ask of me?
4. I agree with you that water by itself can only cleanse one's body and not his soul. Nevertheless, God can use the things of this world -and even now uses them!- and does use us to reach out his saving grace upon all men. Water of itself cannot cleanse us of our sins, but in the sacrament of Baptism, we invoke God in prayer and ask him to send the Holy Spirit over the waters, for we believe that by baptism of water, God will grant us forgiveness of sins and the grace of the Holy Spirit (see Acts 2:38).
Besides, God can work wonders through nature, can he not? After all, he did divide the Red Sea in two through a strong wind so that Israel can pass through (Ex 14), and Jesus made mud with his saliva to heal a man born blind (Jn 9:6-7).
Also, the sacraments are for our sake, to teach us and remind us through "sacred signs" (that's what sacrament means) the grace of God at work in our lives. The sacraments also implicitly teach us humility, that we may realize that all these things, and all that we have and are, and all the ceremonies and pomp that we do, are nothing without the grace of God. By sight, we only see water; by faith, we see that God calls us into a rebirth, a share in the death and resurrection of Our Lord Jesus Christ. If baptism of water is not necessary, then why would Jesus command his disciples to do so? Why would the apostles preach it? Despite being opened into the Scriptures and believing in Jesus, why would the Ethiopian eunuch still ask for baptism when he and Philip reached a pond of water (Acts 8:35-38)? Why would Peter still command Cornelius and his family to be baptized, even if the Holy Spirit fell upon them and they were able to speak in tongues (Acts 10:44-48)?
Sorry if this took so long, but I hope that we and all the viewers have something to ponder on for today, that you may understand us Catholics for what we truly say and believe, and not according to a fixed bias of us being the "whore of Babylon."

And the ordinary way we profess our Christian faith, receive the forgiveness of sins and are infused with the grace of the Holy Spirit is through water baptism. That's the content of #4.
As to your reply with #1, I would like to ask once more my question in #3: what makes one a real Christian? Because I know I am: a sinner who was graced by God.

I know, as much as you do, that Paul indeed wrote this in AD50, and so did other books in their proper contexts, but I believe, as I know you do too, that God's Word is effective even today, and continues to touch the hearts of all. And by history, I know that the Holy Spirit has guided people to recognize which books were divinely inspired, and the instrument God used were the bishops of - guess what - the Catholic Church, thank you very much.
6. Yes, I am an Augustinian friar (and Luther regrettably came from us) but I am first and foremost a Christian, a Catholic at that. I can't be an Augustinian friar without first recognizing the grace of God at work in my life as a Christian.
7. Only the term "Catholic" came up with the writings of Ignatius of Antioch, but not the Church. The Church only took on the name Catholic to describe herself as a "universal" means of salvation, open to all the nations. The Church may have used the name Catholic, but it does not mean that she was created by Ignatius, anymore than a state could change its name long after its establishment. The Church, though she took on the name Catholic, remains established by Christ upon Peter's faith, and therefore is Christian.
Also, please respond to the "million dollar" questions I asked above, so that it will be clear for you and for me:
A) Is Jesus God?
B) What makes a true Christian?
I know we're busy with life, so I would like this to end in the soonest time possible-unless you want to, and I'd be happy to oblige. For love of God, I don't want this to end up as long as a counter (at least in number) to Luther's 95 Theses. I've posted seven theses already 😅
