What a beautiful lyric tenor sound! I would love to see him singing Des Grieux in Manon. I hope he sings that role soon hopefully somewhere near or in Florida. Maybe Tampa or Sarasota? If he does sing it, I'd be there to enjoy this fantastic tenor's voice for sure without failing!! No ifs or buts about it!! Actually, I'd go and see him no matter what role he sings. I am sure that everyone commenting here would do the same. Just fantastic!

Lovely singing! I just watched your interview with Jose and wanted to hear you sing. In the interview you said you try to aim for pure vowels as much as possible. Can I ask what you do with the "eh" vowel? I find this is particularly difficult to deal with above d4. I can sing it as ee but it would be better to have more of an eh sound. I was taught to teach myself. I was told the only person who can teach you to sing is the one staring at you in the mirror. I don’t have a degree from a university or conservatory. Just was given really great tools and developed my ear. My first real teacher was Steven O’Mara who taught me like an apprentice. Not many hours of actual singing but many hours of discussion over dinner and listening to great singers. Trying to understand how the mechanism works and what and why they are doing things. How do you get in trouble and how do you get out of it. After Steve I studied with Rick Christman who also spent many hours conversing and giving advice. Roughly 9 months with Steve once a month or less and then 6 or so months with Rick. After about 3 years of practicing scales and function on my own I attended AVA and was instructed by Bill Schuman. Since I have been using my understanding of acoustics and function to teach myself and others while learning from listening to colleagues and singers I work with.

You work with other singers, ~ at this level... sorry for changing the topic to my own little problem, but maybe... have you ever heard of a case where someone had a throat infection for 2..3 weeks, and even after 2 months the passagio still gone & voice sounding kinda breathy and unhealthy? ENT looked at it with cam and just said, folds look a bit thin and this might just need excercise, could take half a year. I've not heard an opera singer making a 6mon break because of an infection (and not surgery)... hope he's right. I'm just a hobby guy, but it's a dear hobby...
@@tinkerwithstuff throat infections can be real serious. Especially if the infection affects the nerves in the cords. I had this happen to me about 5 years ago and had a partially paralyzed cord from the infection. There is a chance it will never fully recover as mine did not. Focusing on techniques to get clean clear closure in a non taxing way is how I approached it. Lots of head voice exercise and low voice coordination where finding pitch and formant line up precisely. If you sing in the bottom of your range with clear easy non pressed but open throated position and hear a fractionally different formant tuning than bass pitch it’s most likely a coordination issue and folds are not properly meeting. B vitamins may help this if it’s actually a fold/nerve issue. Otherwise it’s probably a technical issue that has been brought to light by being sick. If you have no problems in the bottom of your voice with clear phonation on all vowels then it’s also most likely a technical issue arising in primo passagio. Usually passagio issues start much lower in the range than you’d think and it compounds itself as you ascend. Thanks for the question and I hope your voice recovers fully! @@matthewwhite4495 Thanks man! While I had an irritable throat before (sensitivities to stuff in air), it's more frequent now I'd say that even low notes have random bouts of rasp in them. On some of my practising attempts recordings of the last 2 weeks also some Kaufmann-esque congestion crept in there that I didn't have before. Sometimes feels like some muscles retained most of their strength while others didn't, and now things are out of balance, if that makes sense. It gets worse towards the passaggio, and "U" immediately turns completely dull there. What's confusing is that I didn't hear e.g. the Knoedel when I was there, only later on recording. I used to practise at home (to the dismay of neighbors). now it's a medium chapel, I can't turn off that reverb, perhaps it clouds some things to my hearing. I will look for the headvoice/falsetto parts in lesson recordings from the year or so that I had a (online) teacher who helped free my voice considerably from the bad stuff I had been taught before, and do them more than other stuff, let's see if that gets me better fold alignment. As for Insta... I try to stick to one of the big platform-conglomerates whose conduct I despise but begrudgingly use, so alas I'm not on there ;)
Now popping into mind, your mentioning the slightly misaligned formants... That is what has been bugging me when going from straight tone to vibrato in excercise lately, I guess: Starting focused, the vibrato then makes the sound quality dance in and out of focus, so I guess my setup is kinda jammed and doesn't track the pitch changes. That was better before this mess, too.
