It's worth fixing. I did several of these last year and they all paid off well. People want them for use around their camps on the lakes in upper state N.Y. Thanks
I think it's salvageable; the flywheel guard should be good with a few spot welds. I am curious about how the blade was installed. There's usually some detents or alignment pins to ensure the blade is centered and secured to the blade adapter. It sounds like this mower may be the exception to that norm.
you are correct and since you asked, they tried to use a universal blade, on the wrong adaptor. So it's off center and not engaging the studs in the adaptor.
No matter what everyone thinks it's your mower you check on the cost, then determine if you want to invest in it or use it for parts. Great info. Thank you.
I remember that Murray mowers from back in the day had three different colors for their mowers red green and Black each of those colors are for the different models that they made
IMO the shroud is fixable, though a parts donor engine would be better. I have a similar (550EX) engine here but it needs an oil sump, I’m waiting for another basket case to show up so I can repair it. Sooner or later one is bound to turn up!
I could only make a worthless guess about the worthiness of saving the mower at this point. I can only render an assessment that enough is known which makes it practical to continue analysis and evaluation.
I replaced one using a parts mower. It is a bit of a pain because you need to reseal the breather and getting the replacement one off without damaging it is tricky.
It doesn’t get much lower end than this. I think you’ll save more by using it as a parts mower than you’d make fixing and selling. Not to mention your time could be better spent on something a little more lucrative. Cheers
Just a bunch of dum stuff.....All seam to be easy quick fixes....Even the broken guard....Take it off a bad one (Junk) motor....Good little cheap mower, that gets job done..
Hardest part is taking flywheel off, to get that little pan off...there is like 5 little bolts under flywheel holding in on....not hard just time consuming....

nice, that's a good use for them, thank you!
I think it’s worth saving. Thanks for sharing 👍🙏👍👍
I think so too, thank you!
Lam.Tot Well.Done
Sometimes the value of the parts exceed the value of the machine. Fun needing a part and knowing you both have it and right where it is.
that's very true
I have 3 of them. I use them for mowing where I’ve never mowed before.
great use for them

well said and thank you!
There's always something to be done and this one is an easy fix. The blade will have to be dealt with anyway and the guard too. Blessings
you got that right, just take time and some money
TY for Sharing
no problem
Keeping those cheap broken mowers on hand for parts help with the replacement costs, especially for the hard to find parts.
agreed

thank you for letting us know
@@INSIDEHOUSEGARAGE you are welcome I.h.g

you already know the answer!
If you've got a welder, that's how I'd fix the flywheel guard. I doubt the crankshaft is bent, but easy enough to determine.
I think you're right

yes you are correct, the guard is sealed and getting off is a real pain.
Save it. Keep it out of the dump!
agreed
I think it's worth fixing, the guard could be welded, the engine does run and sound good.
thank you and that's the plan so far.
I know me I would either buy the part or just hold onto the mower till I got one like it. At least it had a good engine and started right up!
you got that right and you make a good point
I had to replace that guard on a mower once. Luckily I had a used one from a blown up engine. The 550 series have very low quality parts.
Same here.
I can see that
I appreciate the made in America sticker shot but I would have bet dollars to do uts that you were Canadian lol
LOL!!!

I hear what you're saying
6:49, yep thats why the flathead briggs and stratton engines are more durable and well design

I think that it's worth saving,it will just take a bit on top to figure out how !
you are correct about that
I would try to Super Glue flywheel shroud before buying new
thanks
I'd fix it. Lots of people are looking for a good used working mower.
yes I completely agree with you
Save it
that's the plan
The Heavy duty Degreaser you use from your local freight store. What % water do you mix with it? BTW love the videos. Thank you
zero, I use it at full concentration, but I have to be extra careful how long it stays on the paint.
Parts, unless you have another parts mower to borrow from. The time involved in welding weak and fatigued steal would be a waste. ~ MHO.
thank you!
Hey bro what's up? It's seems to be a decent mower however everyone is entitled to their own opinion and mine is use it as a parts mower.
I like they way you put that
By the looks of the tread on the wheels...it doesn't have alot of use time...just no basic maint. on it..
agreed
A few tacks with even a cheap wire feed welder would fix that guard.
agreed
save it
agreed
What's your info I'll send you the part!
thanks for the offer but this mower is already fixed .
Parts mower
thank you Mike Jones
Part's mower , it isn't even self-propelled.
you make a good point
I would fix it, then you’ll have a cheap mower to do as you wish.
agreed!

my thoughts too but have you ever taken one off before?
Once only...Its do-able..as long as your not in a rush..Good winter time project..

you already know about it then, and yes, I had to use the hammer on it, which I don't like doing.
