GM built those Z24 near here at Lordstown OH. My father worked there for almost 40 years. In 1988, he brought home the new 2nd gen Z24 fastback with the 3.1 V6 the plant lent him to test and give his impressions about. He liked the car mostly although it was not his cup of tea, too sporty or boy racer braggadocio. Me, I was in heaven--great car, I lusted after one if these. Dad took me on a stretch of freeway and got the car up to 95 mph--FAST! He said if he was looking for another car, this would be on the list. Eventually I bought an '86 Cavalier Type 10 convertible (power top) with the 2.8 V6 auto--decent car, pretty quick, complete, no rust. I drove that as a second summer car from 2004-2008 and parked it because I thought the engine block was cracked. That car was so much fun to drive and was a great cruiser. Dropping the top on a clear sunny day was an awesome joy, and it clipped along pretty good once I got into that V6. Decent gas mileage. Now, I have a '99 Z28 convertible (5.7 LS1V8) I bought back in 2010--too much fun! Right now, 75K miles and everything works, paint still shines like new, stock premium chrome 15" wheels. Had it up to 110 mph, still runs like a top.
New goal is a 2005-06 Corvette convo with the 6.0 LS2 V8 another few years.

Just taking a guess but on the 87 Cavalier I think they put the fuel lines on backwards under the car and it's running off the return line . I had a red 87 Z24 like this but mine was a 4 speed standard shift . Buick Skyhawk and Oldsmobile Omega are on this platform.

@luckyswheelzndealz I was trying to get an 1980 sunbird it had a V8 in it but I got a 73 Grand Prix instead with a 400 Cid I did so many burouts in that car I had spare tires on a rack like Nascar 😆

When the engine is under a small load it stalls. Try changing the fuel filter, it may be old and plugged not letting it get enough fuel.

I test drove a brand new 1991 z24 with a five speed ended up buying a 91 mustang LX 5.0 automatic I kind of wish I had brought the cavalier 5speed because the LX 5.0 automatic was slooow I had old men in Buicks and Cadillacs beating me from stoplight to stoplight 😅
