    I find that music professionals know immediately how good Angelina is. And all Angelina fans would probably agree with me that the two songs you heard were terrific, but not like many of her performances that will leave you stunned at her unique voice, musicality, and delivery. What you wouldn’t know from what you watched is that Angelina is one of the best blues singers you’ve ever heard, and she recreates 60’s soul perfectly, and Adele seems to write songs that Angelina always knocks out of the park. Try: I Put a Spell on You that Angelina recorded at 9 with a live jazz band. That will get you started.

      Your discussion of the microphone was interesting, especially regarding the above recommendation of "I Put A Spell On You" in a recording studio, because I recall other voice professional reactors have remarked that they used at least two different mics in the video, one very similar to the Sure you demo'd here (Though it was three years before she got her own) and the other a fairly large "barrel" mic which the reactor I'm recalling, a spoken word professional, said was more often used in eg radio studios. Maybe when you react to that video you may be able to suggest why the studio used two very different mics. Of course I expect it was just a setup for getting some video of her among the accompanying musicians, overdubbed by audio taken in the booth with the other mic. ?

    Most of us stop thinking about her as a 'child singer' after only a couple of videos. This girl is simply astonishing on all levels. And just when you think her voice can't get better, it just does. Her vibrato is incomparable. I'm afraid she's gonna get so damn good that she's gonna leave us all behind 😎

  • @squidkid2

    Her sound is so intimate. She's so on top of that mic that any flaw in her delivery would stand out like a sore thumb, but the opposite is true, the mic is there to pick up every nuance of her beautiful voice. She seems to be really aware of how good her voice is, and she wants to capture every bit of it. She seems to be deliberately pushing the mic because she knows ii can capture her sound perfectly. Not only does she get a great performance from her voice she also gets a great performance from the mic. A great painter may have a hundred brushes, but they know exactly which one is perfect for the brush strokes they are going to make. For her the mic is just a tool to capture the voice and she knows how to use her tools. No autotune on this.

    My impression is that she was doing an autodidactic Masters Degree in Vocal Arts and these various songs at this age were focused on unique skills that required a Capstone project for. I mean, after should would nail down a particular skill, she would record a song that required that skill. These recordings documented that she learned a technique. Listen to the continuous rasp and growl in “I’d Rather Go Blind.” The belting in Houston’s “I Have Nothing,” the melodic tone control in Del Rey’s “Born to Die.”

    I think this song best displays her lower register as she moves up and down the scale providing contrast as opposed to the other song "How Great Thou Art" which is really low but stays low throughout. Angelina shows such good range, she probably has some limitations on the high end compared to some other female singers but other than Diana Ankudinova who is another prodigy you just don't see young women sing with such control down there.

    Need to capture the whole pallet of sound. A great pitch for a microphone company. I greatly enjoyed your reaction, analysis and commentary. I know nothing about making music or the equipment needed. I enjoy listening to a wide variety of music. Angelina has become my all time favorite musical artist and it is not even a close contest. When I return to listen to Angelina, after enjoying others, I appreciate her music that much more. I love when I can listen to a song dozens of times and still hear something I hadn't heard before.
    How impressive is Angelina? All I can say is that Angelina, as a person and as a vocalist, has improved the quality of my life in ways that are hard to describe. Her music inspires me to be more creative and motivates me to want to make the world a better place. I don't think there are any higher compliments one can give to a fellow human being.
    I, along with other angels, have embarked on an inspired mission to transform the culture of the music reaction world on TH-cam, and also make it a better place by suggesting that reaction channels go beyond just cookbook reactions. I and fellow angels are recommending that reactors be creative in inspiring and educating viewers how to elevate support for the artists. This may include providing all links and recommending that viewers utilize those links. It should be a natural thing to do and both reaction Channel and artists benefit. Dozens of channels have now implemented creative ideas, including our basic suggestions, and are having greater success with their channels.

      I’m curious about your last paragraph. If you have some examples of reactors killing it in the game I’d love to see, or maybe some more details as to what you mean. Anything I can do to elevate myself, my peers and any entertainers we support 😄

    • @ronraskind
      @ronraskind 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Andy I don't think I could have said it better myself. You depicted exactly the same things I feel. I also am on board with artist support as we have seen countless channels implementing these suggestions and reporting greater fan loyalty. The idea is for artists and reactor to benefit equally. The reactor helps promote the artist by recommending viewers like comment and subscribe to the links in the description. The artist benefits the channel because it would not exist without them. Also, fans tend to become more receptive if their favorite artist is promoted by the reactor, and they subscribe in larger numbers to the reaction Channel. It is a win-win and is the right thing to do. I have many examples of reactions where the channel demonstrates implementation of these ideas.

      A few vocal coaches have also implemented our suggestions to show love and support to the artist. I can provide dozens of links to reactors who are doing this. There have been around 500 reaction channels reacting to Angelina over the past year or so and maybe close to 200 have adopted our suggestions. It is a start and I am certain, at some point in the future, it will be standard procedure for music reaction videos. After all, without the artists, there would be nothing to react to. Far too many reactors assume viewers know how TH-cam works and how to boost the analytics for a given channel. Never assume.

    Angelina has a wonderful lower register and shows it here. She also uses it in 'How great thou art' in which she sings in the same key as Elvis. Traditionally a lot praise goes to high belting and not to soft low singing. A shame I feel: this is so nice and relaxing to listen to. A perfect way to drift away for a few minutes and feel refreshed afterwards. She has a very versatile voice and a rich vocal toolbox: expect to be surprised at every turn listening to it. She makes it sound effortless and at the same time there is indeed a lot of depth and different things going even within single words.

    She got the Neumann TLM 102 mic for her 12th birthday. Recently, she has upgraded to the 103 that she uses in her own productions, like Yesterday & Billie Jean. When she sings for her record label, she uses their mics. BTW, she is going up & down in this performance because she is singing it as a duet doing both male & female parts. Great reaction and nice analysis. A couple of minor things you mentioned: First, Sinatra was a great singer -- but he was NOT a songwriter. This song, for example, was written by Joe Myrow & Mack Gordon. He probably only wrote four or five songs in his entire career (I didn't Google it, that's just a guess). Second, regarding microphones: Now that Angelina is recording at Republic Records (with whom she signed in 2020), she's been singing mostly with what looks to be a Shure 55. At least, that's what I see in her "live studio" videos of the last couple of years (All I Ask, Easy on Me, 7th Heaven, Million Miles, etc.). Anyway, all minor points -- the important thing is: Keep the Angelina reactions coming!

    Thank you for your second Reaction to my favourite singer. Although I usually wait until a new Reactor has posted a minimum 3 reactions to Angelina, I have a good feeling that you are around for the long term, so have subscribed.
    In his comment below @Andy Schnell explained that he and other Angelina fans have come up with some suggestions for Reactors to consider in helping both you and the artist, but for some reason did not explain them, and he normally does. Hopefully my comments below accurately reflect what he missed.
    ( a ) Reactors react to the performance of an artist and the more views that reaction receives, the more their channel benefits in at least two ways. (a) Google analyses the number of Views+Likes+Comments-Dislikes that reaction gets, which increases/decreases the ranking they get. This benefits the Channel owner, as the higher up the chain that channels reactions climb, when people search Google for reactions, the more often that reaction will be chosen. However, that does not benefit the artist unless one of the people who watched and listened to the reaction searches for the original song and watches and listens to it and subscribes to the artist's channel.
    Andy Schnell and other fans of Angelina and other artists are suggesting that a Reactor should:
    (a) Shortly after their introduction, verbally mention the artist by name and encourage them to visit their TH-cam channel and listen to the song reacted to and subscribe to their TH-cam channel.
    (b) Repeat the message at the end of the video.
    (c) Post links to the artist's TH-cam Channel (as a minimum)
    (d ) Post, or at least consider posting, links to any other Social Media channels they have.
    In the case of Angelina, I link below all of her channels, with the hope that you will consider posting links to them.

    Since Angelina’s signing with Republic Records, Rob Christie, Emmy award winning pianist and head of RR studios in LA, has been her mentor. They have produced a couple of Adele covers, “All I Ask” and “Easy On Me”, in Rob’s home studio during the pandemic, MJ’s “Heal The World” and 2 of her own songs. Check out the mic used there. Stargate Productions introduced her to RR, and they gave her the contract she wanted. RR know they’ve got a mega star, and were quite willing to play the long game.
    Hers is the most addictive voice ever!
    She has put out her rehearsals on YT, Facebook and TikTok for years now, and her development has been fascinating to watch. Choose anything she’s done, but you shouldn’t miss her first audition on Norway’s Got Talent, where “Gloomy Sunday” floored the judges. Hope to see you reacting to more Angelina.

    Great commentary! Angelina's voice is a mystery to many experts, and its impact on the listener is too! I like the fact that the mic picks up everything in her vocals. It even picks up the sound of her breathing, which to me adds to the nuance of the message of music she sings. And the vocal fry...oooh, that subtle sound is heavenly. It just drips with emotion. Anyway, thanks for adding more to the mystery that is Angelina's performance of whatever she sings!

      For some of her songs, Angelina emphasizes the sound of her breathing. Examples are her covers of Heal the World and Endless Love. For other songs like this one she suppresses it.

    OK BEL, since we're into microphone discussions, I have a reaction suggestion for you. Before making that suggestion, I have to chip in on your comment about the sensitivity of Angelina's microphone. And, I agree with the sentiment that Angelina always has a lot going on and a lot of that being subtle. As you point out her microphone picks up even the most nuanced aspects of her voice. The other edge of that sword, is that her microphone will also show off the slightest blemishes, as well. But, you don't hear any. Do you? Another reason why her microphone works so well for her. ... The reaction I suggest is Angelina singing Etta James' "I'd rather Go Blind." (R&B and she kills it) 12 years old when recorded; uploaded at age 13. This is Angelina sitting on her couch, holding her new microphone, and singing to a backup track - one take. I believe this was on the TLM-102, which is the most uni-directional of the series. The catch is that Angelina is singing into the back of that microphone. You can see the Neuman, red diamond logo on the microphone is facing the camera. This has received a lot of discussion among Angelina fans. Did Angelina know the mic was backwards or did she do that on purpose. Would love to hear your take on that question. ... Again, enjoyed your reaction. Keep 'em coming.

      @@Beldvlmnt Thanks for the reply. Glad the question caught your interests. Let me add a postscript. Neither in the video you reacted to here, nor in her performance of 'I'd Rather go Blind,' does Angelina use a pop filter. I have also seen performances where she does use one. Your thoughts?

    • @Beldvlmnt
      @Beldvlmnt  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@wp9860 I think they’re recorded pre filmed post. I don’t wanna say the mic needs a pop filter but it sure likes it lol I’m not kidding when I say this thing is sensitive like it’s real real touchy. If she’s just JUST going mic - interface - DAW, I think she could get away without a pop filter just because most of the gain structure and performance (just from a production standpoint) would be done post. Compressing, gate, noise reduction etc.
      If she has outboard equipment like a preamp or something, then I think she 💯 uses a pop filter for recording. I have an outboard equalizer, which I left flat, and compression just so I don’t clip the recording, and you can hear my mouth open, you can hear my roommate getting ice from the fridge, it’s wild haha. Hope that helps

    Funnily enough Angelina seems to have had an easier time with her lower register than her high one, it's evening out as she grows but in her very early videos, some even before she was on Norway got talent so age 7 and less it shows. She could always hit high notes, but they weren't as effortless as the lower ones.
    Surprising for a child and even more for a girl but that's Angelina for you, always surprising.
    A good basis for comparison would be
    her cover of Whitney's "I have nothing" at age 13 where she proves she can hit and belt those very high notes th-cam.com/video/eTcvvO6B3Io/w-d-xo.html
    and her cover of "How great thou art" around the same age, maybe a couple of months younger th-cam.com/video/WLAEy1LIHrc/w-d-xo.html

    Microphone.. 12th birthday. You really need to react to "I'd Rather Go Blind". Angelina's first video with her new microphone. Sitting on her couch.. using her vocal fry technique like Etta. Note the red dot is facing out and should be facing her and the 17 second phrase she sings towards the end. On most peoples top 5 to 10 list. Nice reaction 🍁 (the title says 13 but she's 12).

    Maybe you can answer one question we were wondering about. Does it make any difference if you sing into the front or back of that Neumann mic? Because we've seen her doing both. On a sidenote, she switched to the bigger and pricier variant of the mic since working with RR. In my opinion the recordings with the Neumann sound better than those two with the AKG.
    She's still far inside her comfortable range in this song. You havn't seen her going really low, yet. How great though art: th-cam.com/video/WLAEy1LIHrc/w-d-xo.html
    The sound she produces has layers of layers of details, so of course a mic that captures all that is the perfect fit. And she's by far good enough to having to fear it captures too many glitches (or any at all).
    Her vibrato is not a feature of her voice. Its a tool, she's using. And we've seen her even adjusting to the vibrato style of the era the song was created, which shows an amazing focus on the details.

    • @Beldvlmnt
      @Beldvlmnt  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I’m so glad this is happening lol yes leaving the main polar pattern and moving around the capsule of the mic will have all kinds of effects on the sound and response of the mic. I’m excited to spend some time looking at both mic’s and seeing the comparisons - I used to have the same AKG mic, and am currently just borrowing the 102 but none the less. I’ll watch the video and see if I can get to the bottom of it!! Thanks for watching !
