I'm a total daddy's girl even now at 38 he's still daddy in my phone and the greatest man I know.
Now my husband and I have a daddy's girl too.
Unfortunately this song is even more heartbreaking because his daughter Maria died when she was 5 years old after he had written this for her. It's so sad knowing he never got a chance to have so many of those dances with his little girl. 😪
So so sad. :( That really made this song take on a whole new meaning. Thank you for that. Much love to ya, as always.
the meaning for chapman’s family behind this song now after he wrote it is so sad. he wrote it about his two younger daughters and his oldest daughter and their relationship because his eldest was in her 20’s and the other two were very young. but not long after he wrote it his youngest daughter passed in a very unfortunate accident in 2008 and he swore to never sing the song again and i don’t know if he has yet. but his meaning behind it now is to love and cherish being a parent as much as you can.

He still has 3 daughters, Emily, Shohanna, and Stevie Joy. Maria, the baby of the family, was 5 when she saw her brother coming and ran towards the car just as he turned the corner.
Steven Curtis Chapman wasn't sure he could perform Cinderella again but he rewrote the ending of this song to "and the dance goes on" because he knew he'd see her in heaven one day. He has performed it many times since then and won a Dove award for the new version.

My husband and I have a daddy's girl, but I can be out with our granddaughter and if she wants to dance in the grocery store or a restaurant this grandma dances with her no matter who's watching.

The saddest part about this story? He lost one of his daughters a few months later in a terrible freak accident in his driveway. This song always makes me cry

Also, this song was written about the daughter that pasted away. The first time he went back to singing after her death he rewrote the last line to the truth is the dance will go on. Speaking of the day when he gets to dance with her in heaven. To this day anytime he sings this song he always sings the rewritten line at the end.

This song was dedicated to his daughter who was accidentally hit and killed when her brother drove into the driveway,she was 5. He wrote this before she was killed. Stephen has pretty much backed out of public life,he does sing this song here and there but not as much as before. Her name was Maria. 💔❤️
Steven is actually still quite active in Christian music, he has released several albums since then, wrote a book, and still tours quite often. He's very active in promoting their adoption ministry, Show Hope.org

This song was written before Maria was killed. The ending of the video was changed after she died though. This one was written after her death; the song starts at 38 seconds, "Heaven is the Face."

Bro, thank you for sharing that story about your daughter wanting a hug and kiss and your mom's words... (brought tears to my eyes). My daughter just turned 9 and she doesn't quite do the things she did (such as hugs and kisses) as much as she did as a little girl anymore. I sure miss that!

He wrote this song about his daughter after she was killed in freak accident,when his eldest son ran over her backing out of the driveway.
She was adopted from China.
Not 100% accurate. He had a 20 something biological daughter and an adopted 3 year old daughter and wrote this about both of them. The adopted daughter then tragically died a couple years after he wrote this song. He never is able to sing this song anymore without choking up, understandably.
Steve Curtis Chapman has told the story behind the song multiple times, it may be worth a reaction video itself. After his daughter died he did change the last line of the song to, “the dance goes on”

For your first question, yes...I have failed two songs...lol. Zak Brown's "Patrick Swayze" and Migos "Bad and Bougee." But that's why I don't do pass or fail anymore...I was basically passing everything...lol. I just love music. And yes...I love Christian music. I would happily review it.
