  • Hortuzz Hydroponic Company reached out to me to test their deep water culture or (NFT) hydroponic system and give them my feedback. I agreed to give it a try and tell you all about it. I made sure to get you something as well! See the coupon code below.
In this video, I will share with you not only the unboxing, the set up, and a few weeks of growth, but my final thoughts and maybe a “hassle” when it comes to using the Hortuzz deep water culture or NFT table top system. But with a 12.2" LED light deck you can grow, lettuces and herbs with ease! And be creative and try your hand at a few other things as well!
Recording Dates for Growth Progress Reference: Set up on June 28th, Removed domes on July 7th; first real growth in the video was July 10th and recorded the video on July 15th. I am updating this on July 25th and my light bar is up to the full extension of 12" and we are eating as much as we can as fast as we can so I can start a new growth season. I hope that helps you with better understanding the time line of the video.

I own several units like this and can tell by looking at it its good..love the light goes low and high..the unit depth..the drain..the pod spacing...I like 16 hour cycle for me..but does it drift..my biggest issue with non (rhymes with smerro partin..lol) is thier light bars often time drift as much as a hour a day..but it's not a huge deal to manually reset it ever so often..the price with the discount is fair I give it a thumbs up..especially if people dont want the unammed companies high prices..thanks for the review this is definitely on my list

I didn’t test the built in timer with say a timer on my phone but I could most definitely do that. I like to do follow up reviews after I’ve owned a product for a longer period of time in C if it’s still worth it. So I’m sure I’ll do a follow-up video in the future and I will try and let it run the 16 hours for some time and see if I can get a good answer for that. I love that you said a rhymed name. That made me chuckle. Thanks for commenting.

@@GrowYourHomesteadWithAngie I was going to order one as I say seems a fair price..but saw the height is only 12 inches..sure its Good for herbs but I like at least 17 inches for tomatoes and peppers...so I'll get it on sale if it drops more for a herb garden

Yes 12.2. Seems pretty tall with just lettuces. And herbs would be great. But agree maybe a tight fit for tomatoes :)

I do like it. Height on the lights is 12.2”. Great for lettuces and herbs. Just be careful with maybe tomatoes or peppers and don’t plant all the holes. But ya. I’m really likening it. Eating Romain everyday!

I have one of the “units that shall not be named” and have found I don’t like the flavor of the lettuces I’ve grown. As you have a variety of systems that all come with different nutrients, can you describe any differences in flavor between different systems and/or nutrients. Thanks and I really enjoy your videos,

I use my own food for mine..I hear maxigrow is great for things like lettuces..I use dyna grow personally but I grow mostly peppers and tomatoes and herbs

Thank you for commenting! The only thing that I have found is if I let my lettuce go too long it gets better and the same with the arugula. I actually have been using general hydroponics products for the majority of my growing experience. I G works who makes the iHarvest has their own food now and I have tested that as well and it seems to work really well. But I think the only thing I can say on different flavors are just lettuce varieties or how long it’s been in a unit.

That’s good to know on Dyna grow because I have not tried that. Maybe I should experiment with other foods. I’ve just been so stuck on General hydroponics and their products I really haven’t ventured out much from that. But good information. Thank you for sharing.

i want to get one for my father in-law, who is 90 years old. Do you think he is can manage to make it work. he's has a lot of free time on his hands since the passing of his wife. Also can you grow strawberries with this system? I would buy one for me as well. and we would do it together... obviously we have no experience... just your thoughts? thank you in advance!!!

I believe a lot of “retired gardeners” use these systems as there is no back breaking work. Lettuces and herbs do best. If you want to do strawberries there would be a bit of work to either waiting for seeds or doing bareroot which can be a bit tricky until you learn how they like to live in hydroponics. But yes I believe he would enjoy it!
