I am just starting out and was blessed with the 132 set of Prisma color pencils I am going to be taking some of your classes starting next month. I just wanted to thank you so much for all you do! Question: can you please recommend a good starting paper for me to purchase for the classes? Thanks in advance!
Maria Filippa Because your actual drawing skills aren't as good as her "DON'T" and you need to improve your skills to become as good as her "DO" drawings! ✌
Kev27RS no art is good or bad, she’s just giving tips on realism, there’s nothing wrong with the “don’t” side, if you think that’s nice and that’s how you draw, that’s perfectly fine and valid, no one should be forced to change their style
hell bumhole how am I stupid? Practice makes perfect, so if someone does the don’t side they shouldn’t be shamed, they should be encouraged, and it’s completely fine if that’s their style
hell bumhole I don’t even know how this fight started but you’re probably younger based on how you don’t understand people have opinions. And on how you tell him to kill him self you obviously don’t know what you say people may take personally.
Actually, it isn’t AS hard as you may think. Of course, drawing realistically takes much time and practice but if you don’t overthink it, it’s actually much simpler if you just remember the basics and don’t get overwhelmed or jealous by someone who as been drawing like that for years. Take your time and practice a lot💝 EDIT: I’m glad to know that I’ve managed to motivate so many people!💗
I can’t tell you how much I love your work! Even having been to art school, I still felt like I learned something from this video! It’s the perfect blend of a ‘speed-thru’ and a ‘talk-thru’! I’m a very impatient tutorial watcher, and generally fast forward thru most vids for a glimpse at the beginning, middle and end to get the basic idea. But you impressed me when I realized I had just watched all 15 minutes and still wanted more! I am now a subscriber and WILL be watching all your tutorials! There just aren’t many people who have the talent and skills AND the ability to share their creative process who ALSO have the personality to be able to comfortably narrate exactly what you are doing in each step of the piece, as its being done in speed-thru for us, without ever becoming repetitive or obnoxious! THANK YOU!
Excellent tutorial Kirsty. I bought the pencil sharpener you recommended; what a difference it has made. I had no idea my pencils weren’t as sharp as they needed to be. Thank you again for the great recommendation and all your great tutorials.
I wish I could do your 'don't' hahahah. You're so good that even your 'don't' is nice. Hope one I can as good as you are. Thanks for the inspiration and the great videos
interesting points ,if anyone else wants to learn about easy ways to draw portraits try Loctavan Amazing Drawing Strategy (just google it ) ? Ive heard some unbelievable things about it and my mate got cool results with it.
Thank you Kirsty! I wanted to come back to this video and leave a post because this was THE transformational video for me that took my colored pencil art in a whole new direction. Prior to watching this I had no idea how realistic they could be. Just implementing the simple instruction on what to do (and not do) with layering and blending has produced amazing results and a lot of comments like "I thought it was a photo". Thank you again.
Hi Kirsty, thanks for the tutorials, they are so incredibly helpful. I've recently started learning coloured pencil portraits and I'm loving it. These hints and tips are very useful and it's great to have them available to watch again and again. Thank you so much!
I really like your sketch And I've made one for myself Thank u soo much🙏 God bless ya And ur voice is sweet btw 😃 And ur way of explaining details is very simple and easy Thank u very much again
I really enjoyed this. You hit all the typical weak spots beginners have and did a great job of demonstrating how to correct those mistakes. Well done!
It's ok it was the same with me ...I was like I didn't had any relation with drawing 2 years ago ...but now I get praised so much..and I love my drawing..even though there are not that realistic ..but I am improving a lot...so keep drawing ❤️😊
Usually my problem with these tutorials are that the artist inoy focuses in the picture there drawing not eyes in general... But u spoke about general mistakes people make so this is a really good video!!
I'm in love with learning from u...thanks so so much for ur superb lessons...wish I could paste my drawing here ...still it's hard to believe that I made that it actually looks realistic...it took hours but I didn't give up and tried hard...it came out awesome...😘😘😘
Hi Christy! I love your talent and for sharing it with me! I look forward to trying out your new course. Thank you so much for sharing a natural talent I wish I had. :)
Naturally, i already knew how to draw but i needed to learn this type of coloring. Im so tired of drawing using only pencils and tech pens. Thank you for your tutorial.
Thank you so so much for this! I was practicing so much and it never really looked realistic, with you’re tips I’m finally kinda proud!!! It really helped!!!
One simple tip that always helped me was to draw both eyes at the same time. Just doing little bits on each eye equally instead of fully finishing one eye and moving onto the next sincerely helped me a lot! ^^
One question: If I do not have the basic colors to make a realistic eye (shades of black and brown + blender) can I still do something? I love your videos Brazilian kisses :*
✨🙋🏻♀️🙂Many Many Thanks for Creating this Video🙂I Have Tried Drawing my Eyes Before, But Didn't Really SEE my Reference, Since Watching Your Most Awesome Video, I Have Since Slowed Down And Built Up Layers: My Eye Drawing has Improved Much😃😊🎨
Today is my first day drawing an eye with colored pencils, referenced the basic shapes and highlights. I tried a few times but I couldn’t get how to layer up on things and put in those finer details on the iris. So I threw them out and decided I am not going to reference the colors and just go for it. After having done this I wish I would have earlier because it looks fantastic. I have to do the lashes still and I am scared for my art
Me too but and i'm planning to draw jin's portrait for my aunt's bday on march since he is her bias but i'm not sure if i can draw well since i'm too young *i'm 12*
please , be precise in your title that you're drawing a REALISTIc eye because if our style isn't realistic, the version "don't " can be charismatic in another type of art! i don't know if you see what i mean ( i'm french so maybe i've made some mistakes SORRY)
MoonlightFans you're correct... Just common sense really.. Realistic or not it's still based off basic anatomy. How can you draw a non-realistic eye if you don't have an understanding of drawing a realistic eye 😂
Igtdja but Moonlight wasn't saying the commentor was wrong, just suggesting that in non realism you still need an understanding in realism so Kirtsy's video is fine. To draw a cartoon eye you kinda have to know anatomy and what a real eye looks like.
I see your point since I draw realism and anime style, but you can kind of tell by the thumbnail that it's realism we're looking at. I was more bothered by the "a eye" instead of "an eye" haha. ;)
Try using a pencil extension on your short stub pencils. Your a very competent artist. You maintain good control throughout the work, no doubt your confidence works well for you.
Hi Kristy, I know you made this a long time ago, but I will say this anyway. I love love love your videos. You have been my main teacher on the learning to draw journey I am on. Thank you for that. I have one issue though. When you do these types of videos, the voice over is way behind what we are actually seeing so it gets very confusing, at least to me. I am watching you draw and the words don't match up to what I am seeing, so I end up phasing the voice out, and then visa versa. I will listen, and then miss everything else you are doing. I don't know if that makes sense but I am trying here. Is there an available video somewhere where you are doing this in real time? Again, you are an absolute GEM and you have a major gift. Thank you so much for doing all of these.

What type of brush do you use? Can I use a large fluffy makeup brush?
Waw
Kirsty Partridge Art is there any way you could redo a realistic eye video but do it pencil stroke by pencil stroke on the iris
Why are all her dont's actually good?!

that’s ridiculous, I’m just saying it’s fine to draw on the don’t side, what does that have to do with my skills?

Hi Kirsty. I learned a lot on your videos. But I'm only using one pencil but I guess it will work for me. Thanks a lot!
This is very helpful, you are very talented... Thank you so much for the help!
I’m curious to know, how long a full portrait in coloured pencils takes to complete?
Hours
Mine takes around 9-10 hours
Years
According to a scientific investigation funded by Britannica, it is known to take decades.
20-300 hours typically for professionals.
to be realistic, the donts eye is actually kinda good
Millrud12 not from a professional standpoint
Amazing as always
I always find it so cool when I see colors, like the grey in this picture, suddenly look white when you color in the surrounding area. :D.
