This specific taping and subsequent video really shows how Gaithers allowed David Phelps to really strut his stuff bc there are several songs where Bill let's David have several long spot solos within the quartet. Examples: Love of God, Hide Thou Me, and two others I know of. This was a fantastic taped version for tv and sell. Just my opinion but it really put David Phelps on the map as a top notch Tenor with in the quartet ranks which eventually allowed him to survive on his own. Bill is great at allowing new artists, "stretch their wings" and either sink or swim. David sure swam!
David Phelps can bring it. One of the best Tenors out there. His range is ungodly. Pun intended. I had the fortunate opportunity of meeting him a couple years back. Fantastic man. Very personable and pleasant. This Gaither Vocal Band arrangement was one of the better ones I've heard.

The Love of God is too deep for u sin our finite to even began to comprehend--but it is there surrounding us all the time--I have a great nephew -2 weeks old in another state needing a heart surgery--very bad deformity. Please pray for Aaron and his parents--I know God is standing over him. We don't understand why these things happen, but we do know God uses them for his glory--He loves Aaron and already knows the outcome. I pray God's will be done. while everything in me screams for God to pull him through--life is so hard--but one day this old world will be gone and the pain with it.

I remember once I was sitting in my office, waiting for my husband to come pick me up from work, and I was listening to songs like this one on my PSP. And I just asked God to show me how much He loved me. He asked me, "Are you sure you can handle it?" I said, "I'm not sure, but I need to know." So, as I leaned back in my chair, this song was playing and it was as if He reached down and opened up some double doors on my heart and just started POURING AND POURING His love in, GUSHING just like a mighty river, and it was like He was saying, "SEE??? THIS IS HOW MUCH I LOVE YOU!!!!" And I was wrong, I COULDN'T handle it!!! I BAWLED MY EYES OUT because I KNEW I wasn't worthy of His love, but that I was GRATEFUL for it!!! One of my coworkers came in the office and saw me leaning back in my chair with rivers of tears going down my face and she asked me what was wrong. I was able to tell her that NOTHING was wrong, that God had just showing me how much He loves me...and before I could say anything else, she just grinned and said, "It's overwhelming, isn't it?" IT SURE IS, AND AMAZING TOO!!!!
