That artificial difficulty seems to me to be a very cheap and unfair resource to generate difficulty.

Loop Hero could probably also be considered a reverse tower defense, as well as a deckbuilder, but it seems like fundamentally it's a game about balancing resources to maximise the rewards, without fundamentally overextending, as that will most likely lead to failure, which is what i dealt with a lot of times, until hitting a recent wall which i can't seem to get past with the third boss.
I was switching between Loop Hero and Inscryption while playing them and it sure was an experience. I kept waiting for squirell cards to pop into my deck

Did we play the same game? This game is the epitome of "find a strat that works and do it again" and the main reason I dropped it is that its so repeptive. Once you figure out what works for each character you can ride that to the finish line every single time. The game has far too little depth for the amount of time it asks from you. It has the same problem as Darkest Dungeon 1, its a great core concept hidden behind way too much grind, the game time could be cut in half and it would be great.
What is really interesting is that the game has a heap of depth, but it sounds like you just chose to stick to one thing. That's not a bad thing, but I don't think you can blame the game for it, it gives you all the tools to experiment and have fun. Darkest Dungeon is the same.

To put this into game design terms, in Loop Hero, the experimentation and discovery never ends, but also to a great degree where it's not just unlocking something new at the end of a run (or introducing new simple playstyles with no depth), because simply unlocking new stuff by itself usually causes more problems than benefit due to mishandling power creep. Oh I see what you're saying, if you retreat while not at the camp fire, yeah you lose a percentage, but if you're going to die, I'd rather leave with double what I get if I die... buuut I've never actually retreated mid loop though, only ever on the campfire, and or blaze of glory hahaha Part of the experience!
not to get hung up in the first couple minutes but roguelikes dont "need" roguelite progression elements, and some people (like my bf) very vocally dislike roguelites over true roguelikes because it feels like you're forced to lose, rather than any possible run being "the run"
I think you’re misunderstanding what I mean when I say you need to earn something or make progress, for me, Roguelikes need progression as in you need to feel like you’re learning and improving with every failed run. We’re agreeing, I absolutely do not think Roguelikes need in game progression.

I’ve never found the town slow, that’s interesting, I find I get most of the resources needed to upgrade a big chunk of the town before the first boss as long as I don’t overcommit too many times.
@@EljayIsHere Correct me if I’m wrong, but you lost 30-60% unless you leave at the campfire, and all artifacts, right?
Oh I see what you're saying, if you retreat while not at the camp fire, yeah you lose a percentage, but if you're going to die, I'd rather leave with double what I get if I die... buuut
I've never actually retreated mid loop though, only ever on the campfire, and or blaze of glory hahaha Part of the experience!
This is just an autobattler.
Awesome Video :D
Thank you!!
not to get hung up in the first couple minutes but roguelikes dont "need" roguelite progression elements, and some people (like my bf) very vocally dislike roguelites over true roguelikes because it feels like you're forced to lose, rather than any possible run being "the run"
I think you’re misunderstanding what I mean when I say you need to earn something or make progress, for me, Roguelikes need progression as in you need to feel like you’re learning and improving with every failed run.
We’re agreeing, I absolutely do not think Roguelikes need in game progression.
