This is my super not-so-secret side channel, I made this so I had an excuse to play new indie games every week, finish them, and talk about the ones I loved. Hope you enjoy!
This amazing game has a terrible problem
Animal Well is incredibly frustrating for all the right reasons, but mostly because I'll never get to play it for the first time ever again.

Slay the Princess is one of the most engaging and unique experiences I’ve had in years. I tried this game this video is a lie, notice how he's being vague with every single point and isn't telling you everything. Honestly, I half thought this was an ad for loop hero. Still a good game though but could be done better in a lot of department, The amount of grind I have to do in this game is ludicrous and is definitely more than I had to do in any other roguelites. And I believe there's a bit too much RNG involved in a single run especially in a game where it is necessary for you to unlock most stuff to complete the game. Or maybe I'm just mad since this is one of the only two roguelite card game(ish) that I couldn't finish on my first run.
Hey Guys, what is that Gnome/Dwarf Game at 4:39, and is it worth playing? Greetings!
Barony I did a video on it, it’s sick!
The best roguelite is Underdogs VR
this is genuinely one of my FAVORITE games, me and my friend play it all the time and its just so good, im genuinely surprised how it isnt more popular
Not Donald Duck 💀💀
if you're not sure to buy this game, do it it's so fun
Hades gameplay sucks dick
I love wizards but sucks at it, a mistake felt so punishing. kind of gave up on it.
0:56 a millisecond too long of a pause on the word "edge" you aren't slick
I agree with you most roguelikes are too slow to deliver gameplay variability, I prefer those with easy mode that you can first try and experiment quickly a large part of content.
I want to become overpower at one point
DEBATABLE (Unless they highly revamped it from release)
Of course it’s debatable :) it’s a review, it’s not fact, it’s personal opinion. The power of a review is in consistency, not in being right about everything. If I like 6 games and people who watch try them and like them as well, we share taste and they can trust my recommendations. If people don’t like them, then that’s still valuable because they know they won’t like what I like. The only part that’s not debatable or personal opinion is just the core gameplay mechanics, because that’s just showing how it works.
Wizards of Legend is my most played game on switch. Love it so much.
You should try noita it really changed the way I view rouguelikes
love your channel bro, keep it up!
Thanks! This means a lot :)
Well now I'm gonna have to try it.
binding of isaac is such a good game and i dont even like roguelikes
Hey man, been watching your through Stream Scheme for a long time, you're my go-to guy when it comes to everything content-creation. ANYWAY.. Started following you on twitch and realized you're not streaming there anymore. (Watched the entire last stream video) Then tried to find your gaming channel, which I'm wondering, is it this one? Or do you have another secret one as well. Anyway, nice to see you have another channel for games!
This is a new one, only started it a few months ago. The other one was shorts focused to learn those skills, did that, now focusing on experimenting and re learning browse traffic.
@@EljayIsHere cool man, looking forward to the content. 🤌🏻
I've played and notice that a lot of games that twist their "gender" and become so unique and immersive that it really make you feel like this type of games aren't games but art
Typo in the chapters: "Animall" instead of "Animal Well"
If you read the description you’ll find several, and when you put all the typos together you’ll get a special message ;)
Didnt even rate it, 7/10 review
hahaha a perfect score! In serious, I'm trying not to do ratings anymore, because I feel like my random number doesn't add much, better to let feeling tell the rest
I didn't even know the squirrel was a sort of arrow....
Yeah! It seems to lead you to a path you've never been in the direction of a flame (I think....)
0:16 one game which i felt this way for, other than Rain World, is Katana: ZERO, never played a game like that, it really stands out. Oh and also CrossCode, it's like a fake MMORPG, totally insane
Playing Animal well I caught myself thinking that this game is a dull puzzle, a terrible platformer and so on, when you look at each aspect of it separately. But somehow it's quite captivating. You move to the next room and you have no idea what can await you there. The game doesn't teach you anything, it says: "well, you can walk... And also jump... Have fun!" And it works, I was happy as a 5yo kid, when I accidentally found out I could ride the disk😂
hello i just wanted to say if you haven't tried it you should seriously consider playing outer wilds if you enjoyed animal well. it has an amazing sense of being dropped into a world you dont fully understand and it allows you to make your own path and discover the game at your own pace much like animal well
I plan too! I am going in blind, and don't really want to review it, but considering playing it in full and uploading it as a Members Lets play :) Not sure yet, I just want some content to thank the $1 a month supporters and figure that works better for a game like Outer Wilds where I don't want backseating, etc
@@EljayIsHere i understand and totally agree that it is definitely a game best played blind/with as little back seating as possible. it is really a completely unique experience in gaming and i have only really gotten a similar feeling from animal well
Wizard rougelites just work for some reason I suppose. * cough * Noita * cough *
I love your video essays ❤ keep up the great work!
I'm addicted...
"animal well is not a metroidvania cuz it is not linear" this is literaly the deffinition of a metroidvania.
Not really, Metroidvanias have a fairly set path most often, they’re not entirely open and up to you. They might open up later but it’s an illusion of choice rather than actual free choice. Most often you’ll always go the same path, and same route by game design. Animal Well lets you go literally any direction to start with no forced guidance. It’s feels far more free than a Metroidvania normally would. Plus, you’re taking one line and twisting it, then ignoring the entire concept of the video is, “genre labels are dumb, and anything can fit anything.”
@EljayIsHere I feel like you've only played bad metroidvanias by this description. If done poorly, a metroidvania can just feel like a linear game with extra steps. But a good metroidvania makes you feel like you can progress from every direction, hollow knight is a perfect example of this. I don't think the point of the video was very clear, felt more like you were dissing a genre while describing what a good game from that genre should be. I really like your videos overall though.👍
@@EljayIsHere It really depends on the metroidvania, some are more open some are more linear, as you said genre labels do not fit perfectly. I somewhat agree with you, but i do not understand your hatered for the metroidvania genre. I would recomend playing some good metroidvanianias like of course hollow knight which is a railroad at the beggining but then opens up in every way and one that has just released - nine sols with a very linear desing.
@@EljayIsHere Its unfair of you to say he is "twisting" one line from the video when your main point on why animal well is not a metroidvania is that it isnt linear while metroidvanias defining feature is non linearity. Im Not sure what metroidvanias you've played that you felt they were giving you only the illusion of choice but that isnt what the genre is. Respectfully, youve a habit of calling genres you dont understand terrible.
It feels like that’s what I’m saying through this entire video though, that I personally haven’t enjoyed my experience with the genre, and now I’ve finally played one that does it well, and I am coming to terms with that. You guys enjoy the genre and have had good experiences with it, I personally haven’t until now. When you play games that aren’t good or fun, you end up steering clear from others considered similar. But taking a chance on something like Animal Well, and being surprised and torn that it’s good, then having to understand that, is the whole eye opener. Thats why the title is what it is, why the pinned comment is what it is, and why I take so many chances on this channel on things I don’t think I’ll like because the goal of this channel is just to try games and not be sucked into old habits of playing the same stuff. I’m sure there are lots of genres and games you guys hate or think are terrible, probably a lot I love, I’m not going to tell you you’re wrong for that, but if you turned around and said, “holy crap I dislike this but this one I loved, and it feels nothing like the rest of them is it the same? Surely not!!” Then I’d go, “Hell yeah! If you liked that, that’s great, you finally got to experience why I like that thing too” I hope that makes sense, and explains what I’m trying to say and do. I’ve always said, what I say isn’t fact, it’s feelings and personal experience, I’ll try make that better moving forward as well :) I assumed people would understand it’s personal experience but I understand that’s not always easy.
pretty good start as the first "open well" type game
It’s like Halo 2 meets Halo 3
'-'👍I dont know if you guys agree to me, but, this game reminds me a lot of the original Yume nikki
Not all metroidvania's are created equally.
No please don’t be rational, I needed my endless dislike to be proven right, I can’t have such a wonderful game be a genre I’m not a fan of hahaha
4:50 that puzzle is such a bitch lmao
Hahaha fun though
Alternative title could be, "Man comes to term with enjoying a totally okay genre he normally really dislikes"
#DarkSouls3IsAMetroidvania Also, sorry if you feel the title is clickbait, I am still working on finding a balance and titles are really difficult.
Day 2 of asking for you to review streets of rogue
@@NotSteel i second this
The fact youre using Kingdom music shows me you have great taste
Unfortunate the sequel has NONE of the DNA of the original. Looks like another generic 3D actuon game. The 2D pixel art restriction really demands particular design decisions 3D doesn't require. HLD is really special.
I don’t think a sequel needs to match perfectly, as I say at the end it’s completely different but it’s still looks fun for what it is I’m willing to give them good faith and try it out without expecting the dev to try to do the same thing again. I don’t want to judge before I get a chance to try it at least
wait until he finds out about noita
Welp, the demo for a sequel came out recently. I'd like to hear your opinion on it.
hades brotato slay the spire is my trinity
How dare you say that
I appreciate how you completely passed over mentioning any of the deeper aspects of the game and limited your footage to the first two chapters. I'll never forget the scene that precedes getting the "The Real Slay the Princess Starts Here" achievement.
I really didn’t want to spoil it! I’ve had a few people say I didn’t finish the game before when I’ve done this sortve thing hahaha But I stand by not spoiling things
Hades and Cult of the Lamb are both really cool games, but yeah ur right they're not the best at being roguelites. Kinda one dimensional and lack replay value for a whole genre about that, however they make up for it with insane visuals, voice acting, stuff like that. Me personally roguelites like dead cells, risk of rain, and the binding of issac solve those issues really well. great video tho, i've never played this game
4:33 game name pls
