      He was clearly set. I think what he is wanting to think is a balk is the moment he first starts moving forward. But no, not a balk at all.

    • @nateandamber
      @nateandamber 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I agree no balk, but I think he is looking at the fact that Davis had the ball in his glove and then came back to the set position. It is a bit of an odd way to come set (rather than having your hands separate before coming together as he stands up). But, I certainly don't think it is a balk. Especially since the heart of the rule is to eliminate deception by the pitcher. Nothing remotely deceptive about what he did.

    After watching this video especially #9 and number #1. The only reason the Kansas City Royals have ever won a world series has been due to horrible umpiring. Royals won world series twice. 2015 the jays got screwed over resulting in their victory and in 1985 the Cardinals got screwed over. The royals were a really good team both those years but that video showed me the umps won it for them.

Also Wade Davis did pause before he threw the ball no balk, don't know what your smoking there. Gregg's strike zone was crazy wide that day but Atlanta's starter, Greg Maddux was getting the same calls. He didn't cost the Cardinals the World Series, the Cardinals choked it away. That game was still theirs to win after the call. They gave up a wild pitch, the 1st Baseman or Catcher didn't catch a simple foul ball that they could have caught and didn't and the team who led the MLB hitting and had the NL Batting Champion and MVP took all their crying and anger into game 7 and they got their butts kicked 11-0. Cardinals blew a 3-1 lead.

    • @generalnutcase101
      @generalnutcase101 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Agreed. Couple of other things to mention in this game as well. 1st, Frank White was caught stealing 2nd in the 4th inning, except replays showed him safe, and the next batter hit a single that most likely scored Frank. So had the umps made the right call in both times, the situation at the bottom of the 9th would of been 1 out, with the score......1-1, and Steve Balboni up, who, at the time, was the Royals team leader in homers (hit 36 that season), and if they failed to score, the game would of gone to extra innings.
      2nd thing, as mentioned above, they missed a foul popup, which was during Balboni's at bat, which would of been one out. They did get Orta out on a force play at 3rd (the guy called safe at 1st) when the Royals tried to bunt up the runners from 1st and 2nd, to 2nd and 3rd, but because the Cardinals made a good play, got the out, so that should of been 2 outs with runners on 1st and 2nd, and the Cardinals only needing one more out to win. But of course they made a wild pitch which advanced the runners anyways, and after an intentional walk, the Royals hit a bloop single that scored 2 runs.
      So yeah, the ump missed the call, but even with the correct call, the Cardinals still needed to get 2 more outs, and it was on them to make the plays, not anyone else

    • @generalnutcase101
      @generalnutcase101 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      iDominatemkwii not completely irrelevent. Either way, it's still on the Cardinal's to get the outs, which means, even with Orta out, 2 more outs are needed. Balboni was up next, who was the Royals leading homerun hitter that year, who says he wouldn't of gone up there and hack away to tie the game. With Orta on, sure, he could hit a homer to win, or (as he did), get a hit or put the ball in play to put Orta in scoring position, OR the Cardinals could of gotten a double play, which means there are 2 outs, all assuming that Balboni would of been an out if they called the play at 1st correctly. My point is, after all that rambling, is even if the call was made correctly, situation this, situation that, the Cardinals still had to get the outs, which believe it or not, is the same as it was with Orta being called safe. Douple plays, pop outs, strike outs, etc. The cardinals didn't get the 27th out and finish the game

    • @jimk9892
      @jimk9892 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      That blown dinky call put a man on 1st. Which shifts Clark to covering the base. Thus opening the place he would have normally played with the base open wide open. That hit went right through because Clark had to hold the runner. Easily fielded and should have been a ground out.
      Game 7..... Dinky was behind home plate and called a very tight strike zone for the Royals. Andujar had strikes called as balls and with the screw over in game 6 he and the Cards get really angry and unfocused..... Dinky strikes again. The Royals enjoyed a very generous strike zone that the Cards had to defend at the plate. Again thanks to Dinky. The Dinky years later admitted to missing that call in game 6 and that he called game 7 "perhaps" a bit tighter on the Cards because he was pissed. The Dinky handed the 85 WS to the Royals on a silver platter.
      Funny, to this day that man is hated in STL.

    • @generalnutcase101
      @generalnutcase101 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      jim K yeah, and? that call didn't cause them to miss a popup, allow a wild pitch/pass ball to move the runners up, hit .185 for the series, or only score 13 runs, in the series, while the Royals only had 15 before the "rally" in the 9th inning of GAME 6. Plus, the Cards had a 3-1 lead going into Game 5. Yeah, they were upset about the call, I'm not saying they shouldn't be, he missed the call, but Hergoz and his team were so upset over it, they lost focus, and decided to fune about the call instead of focusing on game 7. I would think any decent manager would say to his team, "yeah, the ump missed the call, but we shouldn't of let them get this far, we should of won it in 5, at home, so lets forget about the call, beat them at their home, and win the World Series." Nope, instead he/they were still upset about the call.

    You are too young to remember, but the out call by Ken Burkhart in the 1970 World Series should be in the mix. Bernie Carbo (Reds) came home and the catcher (Elrond Hendricks, Orioles) tagged him with an empty mitt. The ball was in his other hand. There was a collision and Burkhart was in it. He made the wrong call while his back was to the play.

  • @MattRowland
    @MattRowland 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Clearly there was little research done on game 6 of the 1985 WS. Orta was out at third 2 batters later and was the only out of the inning.
    And game 6 against the Blue Jays? It's on TH-cam. Watch it. Look at the overhead shot. The ball was caught by the fan on the top of the wall. Had he not touched it, it is obvious from the overhead shot that the ball would have skimmed the top of the wall and into the crowd.

    Nice video...thank you. IMO the umpiring was consistently better before MLB merged the umpiring staffs...when the AL and NL each had their own separate umpires. Things really went to shit from say 2003 thru the intro of instant replay. There were SO many blatantly bad calls being made. It seems to have gotten better the last 2 or 3 seasons.

    the number one was safe. basically here it's like a WR having control of the ball to make a catch. the pitcher doesn't have the ball completely in the glove as he's stepping on first. if you look closely, you can see that the balls completely in the glove at the same time the batter steps on the bag

    I think one of the worst ump calls was the braves-cardinals wildcard game where the refs call an infield fly rule while the ball was caught in the outfield. It was not a bang bang play, no need for slow-mo, or even a replay at all. How can they screw up something so obvious?
