John really analyzes what the other players are giving him and within that context, milks it for everything he can. Cliché as it is, sometimes less is more. Long live DMB.

Agreed. John is a band leader and in this context he was the soloist so he took the role and cues in. Great rhythm sections never misses this kind of cuing and carter beauford is one of the most dynamic drummer alive today.
If Tim ever wanted to take a break, John Mayer would be an amazing addition for a tour, his love for DMB and experience with Dead and Co. make him a perfect fit
