    FYI. You can take the top part of the engine stand off, bolt it to the engine, then put it back in the engine stand. It makes it easier.

      Where were you like a month ago?!?! 🤣 Just kidding I’ve seen people do that but in the heat of the battle totally spaced it. 🤷🏼‍♂️

    Geez. I wish you lived closer. O I lived closer. I have a 302 and was thinking of upgrading to a 351. But I couldn't remember if yours was a windsor or a M. I live in Florida and I may be able to find a 351W roller cam block at a junk yard. 🤞

      Lots of performance parts available for the 302 as well. But yeah ours is an M.

    Hi Guys, good video's! Why did you decide to get a rebuilt engine from Texas versus taking you engine to a local shop for a refresh? Also not sure about the smog requirements in Utah but replacing that intake and adding a 4bbl carb will increase your torque and hp quite a bit. Keep up the good work!

      Great question. I called every machine shop in a 150 mile radius, I was told the same thing by all of them: “I’m not taking new business, my shop is full of motors I don’t have time to get to.” One guy told me he’d put my motor at the top of the list if I would refer someone he could hire! 😱 I guess there’s just a worker shortage and it’s hitting the machine shops hard. 🤷🏼‍♂️ As for a new intake and carb, I need a whole bunch of people to buy some merch!!! All proceeds go right back into the build. I’ve got some cool new designs up now and more coming real soon. New video drops every Sunday at 10am Mountain Time.

    How is that crack holding up in the exhaust manifold? Generally you want to drill a small hole

    • @troysgarage
      @troysgarage  ปีที่แล้ว

      So far so good. But gotta put in a lot more runtime.

    I absolutely hate the intake gasket for the 351m. I’ve had to redo mine right after replacing because the rubber pieces that go on the “China walls” blew out

      @troysgarage  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yikes! I hope we glued them in well enough and torqued them in tight enough that won’t happen to ours. 😱

      Take those end gaskets for the intake and chuck them as far as you can. They are useless. I just built up a bead of black RTV instead. Sealed up beautifully. Saves a lot of headaches and frustration.

    My son and I enjoy watching the progress. We are restoring a ‘78 f150. We are possibly going the same route engine wise but we want to opt for the 400m. Question- what options and cam did you go with? Thanks, God bless!

    • @troysgarage
      @troysgarage  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Standard heads and an RV cam (mild lobe). Should give it a deeper roar and a little more breathing room when accelerating. There’s only so much you can do with the M base but it’s “good enough” for our purposes. FOR NOW! 😜

    If you doant mind me asking , how much did that new 351m cost...I ask because I have a 77 f 150 4×4 engine runs ok but it had been sitting for 10 years and just got it running about two weeks ago

      This was during the battle of 'Rona' - we paid about $2800 shipped to our driveway. It was more than budget for this project but I couldn't find a machine shop within 150 miles of me that was taking head work. I called them ALL! They couldn't hire help so were turning work away. Sad days - I hope that's all completely behind us now! Congrats on getting the old engine running!

    where did you get the engine?

    • @troysgarage
      @troysgarage  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Mabco Motors out of Tyler Texas. They turned this around in about 6 weeks and they originally said 3-4 months. (inside scoop..... we put the motor in TODAY!!! 😆)

    Hi Troy, Tavish! Curious as to where you ordered your engine from?

    • @troysgarage
      @troysgarage  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Mabbco Motors out of Tyler Texas. Call them first to finalize a design, then place the order online for the best price. They were awesome to work with and delivered months ahead of what they initially quoted. They did keep insisting they couldn’t deliver to residential without a loading dock. I insisted a truck with a lift gate could be found somewhere to bring it to me. 🤷🏼‍♂️ Worked out that way. 😜 www.mabbcomotors.com/

      @@troysgarage thanks! This helps out a ton. My 351w in my 93 F250, well i don't much like the previous owners did to the heads or the block. So im not looking to keep this engine or block or heads. Obviously like you guys i would keep the necessities.

      You can use a screwdriver like my son did in the video. You’ll be committed once you get so far. That will motivate you to get it out. Watch the video again if needed to be sure you are pressing and prying in the right direction. 👍🏼 You got this bro!!! 🙌🏼

      This long block with a simple RV cam and stock heads was about $3600 shipped from TX to UT.

      @@troysgarage i spent way more than I intended to. First break in Comp flat tappet cam went flat in 25 minutes. Machine shop assembled engine without heads. Degreed, everyrhing. Then I went Howards Rattler roller cam with Boss 351 steel adjustable roller rockers from Comp. Howard's springs and Morel tie bar roller lifters. Balanced engine. ARP studs/ bolts where it counted. My stock Heads were completely re-done. Headers just came in nad looking for better heads. Thanks for the content.
